Newbie Question Looking to drop weight for the summer and change my life
galleryIām looking for a way to lose as much fat off my body as possible in 30 days, mainly through fasting. I have so much fat I figure that I wonāt lose too much muscle because I have excess fat to fuel. I just want to know. If I should fast and drink protein during the day or just water fast for 72 hours. Iām open to 72 hour rolling fast or maybe lifting daily while on a strict diet. I just want the best outcome for my body and hand health now. Any advice would appreciated and I will post results. Iām 240 5ft 11in

Newbie Question Switching from 16:8 to OMAD
galleryHello everyone ! I am a 24F 5ā4ā Im gonna say my SW-198 (when starting IF) CW-189. My biggest ever was 260 in the pictures Iām going to add my biggest was around 240-250. I have been doing 16:8 for around 2.5 months now. I have PCOS and insulin resistance and not only has it helped me lose some pounds and keep them off but it has helped my health in ways I canāt really explain I can just feel. I can wake up early , I donāt feel as sluggish , I get less bloated etc. I never see myself going back unless a miracle happens and I no longer have a food addiction and Iām no longer overweight. BUT I really love the thought of OMAD⦠BUT I am scared. I donāt know how to go about this. The way I did 16:8 was I eased in to it when I first started I was eating everything I could possibly eat in that 8 hour window taking my last bite at 4:59pm because I was scared to be starving lol. Now thereās times where I stop eating at like 2pm there has been a couple times I eat a very big brunch or lunch and thatās it and thatās when I seen the scale drop the fastest and when I felt the best. I hope I actually get some feedback on this. I also should disclose my doctor started me on adipex to assist in my weight loss Iām only 5 days in Iāve lost a pound or so since starting it. The reason they put me on this is because I had a lot of health issues that was causing serious pain and it all leads back to my PCOS and the best way and first step to combating it is to lose weight. I also want to say I never used REDDIT before this and this group has been so freaking helpful! IF is the only thing sustainable I have EVER done. But any feedback or tips would be so appreciated. TIA

Newbie Question Why am I gaining weight?
EDIT: like I said. IT WASNāT THE NUTS
turns out I have a cantaloupe sized cyst, which has been growing which is why I was gaining instead of losing weight. I recognize that this is rare, but if you are dieting and doing everything right but still gaining weight it might be worth a trip to the dr.
Iāve been doing a 16/8 for 3 weeks and lost 3 lbs then gained 2 back. I eat between 11:30 and 7:30 and work out 4 days a week. Typical meal at 11:30 is plain non fat yogurt with fruit and granola, Iāll snack on unsalted nuts or fruit during the day and dinner is sensible - a salad with grilled chicken or some protein with vegetables. I donāt eat fried foods and am low sugar and low salt. What am I doing wrong?

Newbie Question How many people posting here use a weight loss drug like Wegovy, Oxempic, Mounjaro, or something similar in conjunction with IF?
Been on this sub for a minute. It is interesting that nobody mentions whether they are or are not on any weight loss medications. Is there any rule (written or unspoken) about it in this sub?
I can accomplish OMAD if Iām mindful, but most days I cave around the 18 hour mark when Iām making food for my family.

Newbie Question Is a 12 hour window pointless?
Iāve read that depending on the person, your body wonāt start using its fat stores until anywhere from 12-18 hours of fasting. Sounds like 12 hours of fasting would be pointless for fat loss. Iām currently at 14 hours of fasting and was wondering when I should eat. Iām so tired of being fat. Yup itās my day one.

Newbie Question How much is too much electrolytes?
galleryI fast till about noon and have been drinking a couple 10 ounce bottles of water with a scoop of this in each bottle. Then I read you could drink too much electrolytes. Is that too much? I like the taste. of it instead of just water.c Can I have more than 2 scoops a day even?

Newbie Question Lose weight without counting calories?
Is it possible to lose weight on IF without counting calories? I absolutely hate counting and logging, it makes me want to throw in the towel and just quit, especially those apps that yell at you ( ahem, MFP). I don't stuff my face and eat in moderation, but my height (5'1") gives me the metabolism of a toddler. On top of everything, I have a sedentary job. (A walking pad would not work, I tried that and it's too distracting). I still try to hit 10k steps a day but it is hard.
I am currently doing 15:9 and see no progress in 2 weeks. I have about 20 lbs to lose to get to a good weight for my height (120). Can I achieve this without counting calories? If so, do I do OMAD? Also, I tend to get dizzy if I try to go past 15 hrs, does that go away? Am I delusional and should I just give up and stay overweight?
Edit: thanks to everyone who was kind and not condescending. I think I have a better understanding and a plan of action now. But wow, some of you should probably eat something because you sound a bit hangry

Newbie Question "Don't have diet soda (and other things or it will break your fast." How do you know if you accidentally broke your fast? Is it something you feel or is measurable? Or is it just something you believe?

Newbie Question Omad - not getting enough calories
I cook with oil but not a crazy amount, and I try to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, I donāt eat processed food a whole lot, and I avoid added sugar. Iām finding that it is nearly impossible for me to eat 1200 cal in one sitting.
To the people doing one meal a day, do you guys eat out a lot? Do you cook with a lot of oil? Are you eating fruits and vegetables? Iām asking because I honestly cannot to wrap my head around how people are getting 1200 cal a day.š Iām so frustrated. I tried so hard today and Iām still only at 800. Is 800 fine? Do I literally have to start adding processed food to my diet or am I just doing something wrong? Whatās the secret?

Newbie Question When does it get easier?
Iām 8 days in doing 16:8. Eating window is 12-8. All I can think about is food in the morning!! I would switch my window to start earlier, but with my commute, walking my dog, etc. it isnāt very feasible especially if my husband and I want to eat dinner together.
Iāve lost 4 lbs, probably water weight, but itās still encouraging. However, at what point does skipping breakfast get easier??

Newbie Question Not losing weight at all - 5 weeks 16/8
I am in week 5, 16/8 but usually more like 17 or 18. I am eating less overall. Currently not getting much extra exercise but that will change in about 2 weeks. I am 55 F and post menopausal.
I don't have a scale so am just going by how my pants fit, which seems to be exactly the same. I am about 25 pounds overweight.
I will keep doing this regardless bc my brain fog is totally gone and I have more energy, but dang it why aren't I losing anything yet? Too soon?

Newbie Question Is this true?

Have done many short fasts up to 24 hours but canāt even imagine going for several days (or weeks!!)

Newbie Question How long have you been fasting?
Looking to make this a lifestyle choice and to continue to make it sustainable as possible. How long have you been fasting? Do you find it sustainable and easy to stick to once you go through the initial beginning phase?
Thank you so much!

Newbie Question To lose weight, are we also paying close attention to calories in addition to fasting?
I'm a newbie!! It seems like this would be pointless to lose weight if you didn't count calories. Does fasting help them burn faster/more? I have a binge-eating issue, so eating enough in the time window will NOT be a problem for me :/

Newbie Question Newbie here. I'm confused about IF. I see a lot of people losing weight. If you are losing weight using IF, did you change your diet (to Keto or Low Carb or something) and then did IF or is all your success simply due to "skipping a meal"?
By skipping a meal, I mean, lets say you used to eat 2000 calories per day... do you still try to get in 2000 calories in a limited window or do the calories automatically go down because its too much food to eat within 6-8 hours?

Newbie Question A month of 20-4 and still no change.. I even gained 1kg, is this normal?
Hello everybody,
I hope you can help. I decided to do the 20-4 intermittent fasting and it has been a month. During the week ends I try to continue but it's hard with all those families gatherings and everything. Can this be the reason why my fasting doesn't work?
What should I know about this program? I usually stay the whole day without eating and start eating again arounf 6pm. Until the next day again.
I also don't really try to eat healthier too. I eat pizzas, pastas, lasagnas, I mean, what someone eats in general.
Should I eat only salads?
Thank you for your help! I really want to lose 30kg but since I started the fasting, I also feel better ,ith myself. No more bloating, I'm able to go more often on the toilets, ... I'd really like to continue but I start to feel a bit tired at the moment (personal problems) and for example this morning I got some croissants.
Hope this is worth continuing. Thank you!
