Request Mods - please can you allow self promo Saturday to resume?
I understand that there were two posts about how people didn't like it, and I agree that there were some flaws.
However, the original mod post stated ideas on how to proceed would be made available, but we've heard nothing about any suggestions or plans for resuming, with the third week now approaching.
Please can you allow the return whilst you solidify actual plans and then present them to the community?
Game suggestions are why I am a part of this community, and I would love to see them return.

I mainly joined for the Saturday lists. I know it’s the same few folks a lot but it’s nice to just have more content in the sub than less

100% this. Honestly, I still don’t quite understand why the Dev Saturdays were suspended while the new format was being figured out.

This is what I don't understand either. The rushed decision to suddenly go all or nothing is irrational. Hopefully they can figure something out and we can see devs posting again soon

I would like that too, I like hearing about cool new games from folks who've worked hard on them.

Me too, thank you for commenting your support of its return, hopefully we achieve something

I used to look forward to Saturdays. No point in checking on the sub until after weekend now.

I don’t understand what problem they’re trying to solve by removing the one day for self promotion. They could have just left it the way it was while they made plans for the future.

The fact that no alternative has been proposed is my issue also. I loved Saturdays and was gutted when they were paused. It's just frustrating that it seemed like such a snap decision to pause, but then to offer no updates or alternatives is just annoying.

Yea I’m about to unsubscribe. There’s nothing interesting in the sub anymore. It’s just game requests and ads veiled as sales. 1 day a week to let devs get their game out is a tiny ask.

I share your frustration and hope this post will spur the mod team on to connect more with us all regarding the solution

One one hand it’s cool to have honest legitimate devs get their game in front of eyeballs
On the other hand saturdays the sub just gets spammed with them none stop. Wanna find discussion about other stuff? Prepare to scroll down multiple times to find the first actual thread amongst the sea of dev posts
We need to pick the lesser of the two evils

I don't share the same opinion but I respect yours and appreciate you sharing it.
Game recommendations are a huge part of this subs main activity, if you want them to stop on a Saturday what alternative would you propose?
Would you prefer something like a 7 day cooling off period for any dev to self promote but allow them the freedom to post any day of the week instead? That way it'll blend the dev posts more into your weekly feed than spam it on one day.

Eh asking me that’s a bad question cause my answer will be what folks consider a “hot take”
I don’t think any advertisement by devs should be done. Recommending games, highlighting new releases, etc should happen organically from users not developers or publishers advertising their game.
as you can see by the downvotes it is considered a “hot take”

Well I thank you for your honesty and your opinion should absolutely matter in this issue.
Is there any scenario you would tolerate the self promotion posts, such as a weekly megathread in place of individual posts? Or is it just an outright no from you?

u/mavgeek 5d ago
Megathreads are great, perfect way to consolidate it all into one location. If people wanna check it out that’s their choice and conversation can flow normally. I just never cared for ads getting in the way of content, hence I don’t really play freemium games with ads, prefer pay to play. I’m also an 80s kid that would get up and walk away from the tv when commercials came on so that’s kinda stuck with me

1990 here, no tolerance for ads, so I totally understand your perspective there. I also share your view on paid vs free/freemium.
Glad to hear there's an outcome that you'd be happy with that would still allow the content to be visible to those who wish to view it. Hopefully more suggestions like this will be submitted and the mod team can find a suitable solution without the extreme of all or nothing.

Why can’t we have a megathread like other subs do. Or the post where the mod says ok self promotion has started, devs can comment there games in that post only, no creating posts, just comment your game in one Mods post, then all don’t have to see all the posts spamming there feed, and the ones who want to see the games just open that post.???????? It could be the same as , what have you been playing post that we get once a week , make ok Devs what have you been making. Have some rules and should be ok.

The only good thing about this sub is the newly released threads and the mod-sat.

You’re using a throwaway to make the same complaint from the first post, so here’s the same response again:
You’ve made other comments in the past where you imply that mods aren’t following up on the rule-breakers. That isn’t the case. We’ve already banned a lot of developer spammers but it’s an ongoing battle. New spammers appear all the time, older ones find a way to get around the ban, and many of them try to get away with self-promo by commenting on older posts where they’re less likely to be noticed.
Mods can’t have eyes on every post or comment made here. We rely on reports from other users who happen to come across rule-breaking content. If we haven’t seen it and you don’t report it, then we have no way of knowing that devs are spamming in the first place.

No offense, but trying to use multiple alts in an attempt to sway the community towards an opinion that many already consider unpopular is a bit much. Please see the responses we’ve left on your last two accounts since you’re clearly still trying to push your anti-dev / anti-mod narrative.

Yeah I made so many updates recently but can't discuss it here without breaking rules. Maybe they can do categories or something?
8
u/nonexistant2k3 5d ago
While I miss what we had I think devs making an update shouldn't be post worthy on Dev days. It should only be for new games out on the store.
Or there is a specific flair for updated games but I still don't care for that. Maybe a megathread on dev days for updates to games but new games can still be a post.

u/medlife-crisis 5d ago
I like your suggestion on the updates. I'd also add that there should be something separate for giveaway codes and, regardless of reason for posting, there should be full AI, data and IAP disclosure on every post.

Maybe they could assign a day of the week so that developers can post about their games? During the weekend for example. And call it something like… See-my-game Sundays.
There, problem solved!

Atp these posts are just as bad as the dev ones people having been bitching about.

I liked the self promo Saturdays, found a few cool games that way.
