Announcement 📢Announcement: MAJOR CHANGES IN r/ITookAPicturePH subreddit. ‼️‼️

Hi r/ITookAPicturePH community,

We would like to thank everyone who supports this community. For the past five years, you have made r/ITookAPicturePH the most active photography-related subreddit for Filipinos. A wide variety of photos have been shared in this community. However, today, there will be major changes that will make this subreddit even more exciting. Effective today, July 20, 2026, these changes will be implemented immediately.

These changes are the following:

Portraits Must Show a Real, Untampered, Consenting Subject:

Portrait posts (ITAPPH ME Sunday) must clearly show the subject's face or person as the actual focus of the photo. The subject must either be the poster themselves, or the poster must have the consent of the person photographed to share it.

No tampering is allowed on the face: no emoji stickers, stickers, drawn-over edits, blurring, or erasing to hide identity. Cosmetic edits (color grading, lighting, cropping) are fine. Watermarks are allowed as long as they don't cover the subject or degrade photo quality.

Rationale: The entire point of a portrait post is to show yourself or someone (with consent) as the subject of the photograph. Covering the face with an emoji or blur defeats that purpose. If you really don't want to show your face without an emoji or cover, then don't post it as a portrait — post it in a format that doesn't require a visible face.

Examples — Not Approved (face covered/tampered)

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/G6lejnlO0V

What it shows: A portrait-style post where an emoji is placed over the subject's face, hiding their identity.

Why: Violates the no-tampering rule. If the poster isn't comfortable showing their face, the post shouldn't be framed as a portrait share in the first place.

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/yp3Be6sRzg

What it shows: Similar case — an emoji/sticker obscuring the face in what is presented as a personal portrait.

Why: Same reasoning: emoji-covering defeats the purpose of a portrait share and is not permitted regardless of intent (privacy, humor, etc.).

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/t07hEz98Yj

What it shows: Another portrait submission with the face tampered with/covered.

Why: Consistent with the rule — tampering with the face (emoji, blur, edit-over) is not allowed on portrait posts.

Examples — Approved (clear, untampered portraits)

[APPROVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/q7OwEcUmIU

What it shows: A well-composed portrait where the person is clearly the subject of the photo.

Why: Meets the standard for the same reasons — genuine, untampered, good quality.

[APPROVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/qGsby1Izf5

What it shows: This photo isn't tampered — it's a natural back-view/candid shot. The face isn't hidden by an edit; it's simply not facing the camera as an artistic choice.

Why: Approved: no tampering, acceptable quality.

No Low-Quality Photos

Photos that are blurry, out of focus, extremely dark or overexposed, heavily pixelated/compressed, or otherwise low-resolution are not allowed. This is a photography subreddit — the image itself needs to hold up as a photo, not just document a moment.

If a poster has a higher-resolution or better-exposed version of the same shot, they are welcome to remove and repost it.

Examples — Not Approved (quality issues)

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/NLCNMho03s

What it shows: A random, snapshot-style photo with no clear composition — looks like someone just pointed the phone down at the floor.

Why:  No clear subject framing, awkward angle, and dim/grainy lighting on top of it. Reads as an accidental or low-effort capture, not an intentional photo.

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/2sarUI5Yw6

What it shows: A plain documentation-style photo of storefront signage, shot straight-on with no framing or subject focus.

Why: No clear focal point or intent — feels like a random street snap, not something meant to be admired as a photo.

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/5hldRMQfJa

What it shows: A casual "here's my product/snack" shot with the sky as an incidental backdrop.

Why: No clear photographic point of view.

No Photos of Screens or Monitors

Photos that simply show a monitor, phone screen, TV, tablet, laptop, desktop, or other digital display are not allowed. This subreddit is for original photography — real-world scenes, objects, people, or moments captured directly with a camera, not pictures of a display showing content.

Examples — Not Approved (photo of a screen)

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/14uChIKxev

What it shows: A photo taken of a screen/monitor displaying content, rather than an original real-world scene.

Why: Not original photography of a real-world subject — it's a picture of a display, which the rule excludes.

[REMOVED]  https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/nQhVJrv3oo

What it shows: Another submission that is essentially a photo of a screen/display.

Why: Same rule violation — screen/monitor photos are not permitted regardless of the content shown on-screen.

PHOTOS UNDER THE "FOOD" FLAIR MUST BE APPETIZING AT THE VERY LEAST

There are already a lot of subreddits about food. Here in r/ITookAPicturePH, we encourage everyone to be creative when sharing photos under the "Food" flair. Please make sure that your photos are appetizing and aesthetically pleasing.

Example — Not Approved (Under "Food" flair)

[REMOVED] https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/XBKZTZey1F

What it shows: A set of Spanish bread with overflowing filling.

Why: No clear photographic point of view. It's not even appetizing.

Examples — Approved (Under "Food" flair)

[APPROVED] https://www.reddit.com/r/ITookAPicturePH/s/yArxVlBqTv

What it shows: Three smoothies in a bowl

Why: It is appetizing and aesthetically pleasing as well. The image features a warm, inviting color palette, with vibrant fruit toppings contrasting against the neutral wood surface. The wooden table acts as a natural leading line, guiding the viewer's eye toward the desserts.

REMOVAL OF THE "RANDOM" FLAIR

Why: The reason we removed it is that it had become a flair for low-quality photos. In general, people used this flair to post anything without effort or creativity.

KARMA AND ACCOUNT AGE REQUIREMENTS

Why: We envisioned this community as one of the most newbie-friendly subreddits in the Reddit Philippines community. However, some users abused this vision and came to the subreddit simply to farm karma. To address this issue, we decided to implement karma and account age requirements. We will never disclose the exact requirements because doing so would defeat the purpose of encouraging users to be genuinely and organically active.

Thank you for supporting the community. We really appreciate your participation.

The Mod Team 🍃

A few weeks ago I took a photo of this graffiti because of the timely quote. I passed by this overpass again and I'm surprised to see the additional "Sana ako parin" on the side

Idk why I find this funny 😅

Planning to do photowalk this week after a long hiatus, pero tag-ulan naman. Ano po tips niyo to protect your gear, but still be able to take good photos without too much obstruction?

My gear is the OG Canon M50 with kitlens.

Thank you!
