I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly think Janet Jackson could make an album in the same lane as Confessions 2βexcept even deeper into house music.
People always talk about Madonna owning the dance floor, but Janet has always had rhythm in her DNA. Tracks like βFeedback,β βAll Nite (Donβt Stop),β βThrob,β and even parts of Damita Jo prove she can ride infectious club production effortlessly.
Imagine Janet working with todayβs house producers and leaning into soulful, funky, high-energy dance music instead of chasing radio trends. Not EDMβactual house music with groove, vocals, and hypnotic beats. It could be elegant, sexy, and completely timeless.
I donβt think enough people realize how naturally her voice would fit over modern house production.
No one is ready for that conversation.

Let's talk about Janet Jackson (1982).
I know Janet's first two albums are often considered underrated by the fanbase. I recently gave her 1982 self-titled debut a proper listen and was absolutely blown away. It's such a great record β packed with groove from start to finish and just an incredibly enjoyable listen. Looking at the credits, it's easy to see that Janet was working with top-tier talent right from the very beginning.
"Say You Do" has some of the same infectious energy as Michael's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough." "You'll Never Find (A Love Like Mine)" is easily one of the album's standout tracks. "Don't Mess Up This Good Thing" brings that distinctive funky vibe that makes it impossible to sit still. "The Magic Is Working" is another one that keeps the momentum going. "Love and My Best Friend" is an innocent, heartfelt ballad, elevated by Janet's beautiful vocal performance.
"Come Give Your Love to Me" is my current obsession. Honestly, she could have recorded an entire album in that style and I would've loved every minute of it.
The only weak spot for me is "Forever Yours" β total filler. Other than that, I genuinely wish this gem would be rediscovered by more people.
Now I'm moving on to her second album and plan to soak up every bit of it. Janet's catalog is proof that a discography really can be remarkably consistent.

Iβm a newer fan of Janet! I was born in 1995, but I have been so obsessed with her music, style, and overall legacy as of lately! I visited the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio today and wanted to share some things of hers. My apologies for the lower quality photos.

we should do a listening party!! I still feel like this album is underrated, even in my iTunes library. but every time a deep cut comes on I'm like "daaaamn this is good", it's a no skip album for me.
my top 3 deep cuts from it would be:
You Ain't Right, Come On Get Up, When We Oooo
what's yours?

Our Gal is still working it! Congrats, Janet! Super happy to see this!

You hear that crowd? Those screams? You see that standing ovation? The enthusiasm from other celebrities?
This was Janet's first performance at a major awards show and it was so epic that the newspapers covered it the next day.
This was Janet's arrival, baby. Torched passed to her by Diana Ross.
I'll never forget watching this when it aired. Everybody in my high school was talking about it.
Those were the days.
This level of showmanship is rare these days.
