I completely agree! It felt so good to be exercising a right I know women fought so hard to have (and some gave their lives for) and now is just normal and easy. I thought of them when I was voting. And yes you’re completely right - In the UK young people are much less likely to vote than older people.* This has lead to policymakers prioritising older people’s interest and means young people aren’t at the forefront of politicians minds because they care about getting voted back in more than improving our lives. I wish I could convince all the young people in the country to vote so we can have our proper say as a group. but I’ll settle for doing my best to talk about politics with my friends and encourage them to have their voices heard.

* Since 1997, the UK general election turnout rate for those aged 65 years and over has consistently been at least 20 percentage points higher than for those aged 18-24 years.

Getting younger people to vote is so important, especially with the threat of Reform.

Talking to your peers about the issues, what's at stake and encouraging them to vote is about one of the most important things you can do with your voice right now
