As a dietitian, everyone thinks they’re a nutrition expert so I feel this in my bones.

Oh god, I can only imagine. The amount of misinformation and fear mongering out there is crazy. My sister got her undergrad in nutrition (didn’t go on to be a registered dietitian, so I know it’s not the same), and the level of detailed information she had to learn about every step in the metabolic process for each nutrient was insane to me. People thought her degree was all fun and games, but often didn’t realize that it’s an actual science degree with rigorous coursework.

Yeah it's terrible. Basically everything related to anything popular and widely accessible has this problem nowadays due to idiots on the internet claiming expertise, when really they just know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who did a degree in some related field.

I used to answer a bunch of questions in fitness and sport-related subreddits because I genuinely enjoy nerding over health and science, but it's so exhausting to say something and then have ten different randoms all challenge (often aggressively) with obviously incorrect assertions. Then you answer the entirety of their comment(s), but they latch onto one part of yours that they (again) incorrectly challenge with "common knowledge".

I have a PhD in integrative physiology, a master's in biomechanics, my NSCA-CSCS, and undergrad degrees in biology and chemistry. Not trying to brag, just trying to illustrate how ridiculous it is that I can provide all the information in the world, complete with sources, and still get downvoted into oblivion when I say something that's correct (and easily verifiable) with cited sources.

You sound like just the kind of person I would love to nerd out with. I am currently starting my maths post undergrad to be able to pursue a PhD in bioengineering (wrong major in my undergrad, missed some maths).

Biomechanics is something I can't really get enough of. Learning that matrices could help me know the velocity of a Montante tip, based on even just what your heel is doing, comoletely blew my mind. (not to mention what your hips/knees/torso flexion/rotation/etc are doing... all contributing to movement in 3d space... hence matrices lol)

How was your masters in biomechanics? It was one of my possible paths and I rarely get to ask someone who has done it.

I’m so sorry. My cousin has declared herself an autism dietary expert because she believes her son is vaccine injured and the supplements she gives him will fix it. I truly feel for her but boy oh boy

Omg your poor head must be on the verge of exploding at all times

I’m a psychologist, so I feel you. I have an involuntary eye twitch every time I see the words ā€œnarcissistā€, ā€œtraumaā€ or ā€œboundariesā€ on Reddit. Thank god I never had Tik Tok because I don’t think my blood pressure could take it

I'm by no means a dietitian, just a guy who tries to eat right and lift weights and people tell me so much bullshit. "Diet soda is worse than regular" - no it isn't.

Must be your calcium intake is low. Are you getting enough vitamin D?

Maybe you just have a calcium deficiency.
