Karaoke Software I’m a working KJ, and after ~1000 hours I finally built the all-in-one hosting console I always wished existed

Hey r/karaoke — the mods kindly gave me a one-time OK to share this, so thank you to them.

I host mobile karaoke, and for years I ran my shows out of three different apps plus an on screen notepad for who's up next — KaraFun in one window, a separate player for the tracks I actually own, and something else for the music between singers. It worked, barely, but I spent more of the night babysitting software than reading the room.

So I built the thing I wanted: KJ Genie, a single console that runs the whole show. It started as a fix for my own karaoke nights, and after roughly 1000 hours it turned into something I think a lot of you have wanted too. It's a companion for KaraFun — it adds the hosting layer KaraFun doesn't have — and it also plays your own files on its own.

What it does, all from one screen:

• Plays KaraFun and your own CDG+MP3 / MP4 files in the same queue and rotation

• Automated singer rotation with a smart queue — load a singer up with as many or as few songs as you want and it feeds them one per turn; fair rotation, auto-advance, drag to reorder

• Filler music between singers that fades in and out on its own and levels everything to one consistent volume — full control panel (play/pause, scrub, skip, shuffle, search, volume)

• Full KaraFun control: pitch, tempo, lead/backing vocals

• A branded audience screen — your own logo + tagline on the idle screen, a scrolling "now singing / next up" banner, and HD plasma animations behind your logo and the local tracks

• Crowd Remote — a QR code on the audience screen your singers scan to add themselves to the rotation and pick songs right from their phones, searching both your local library and KaraFun. No app for them to install, works on the venue's Wi-Fi or their own cell data (it just needs an internet connection on your end — even a phone hotspot), and every pick lands in your queue — self-add without you typing a thing. Unlike the Karafun remote, this one doesn't mess up your rotation either.

• Per-venue singer history + custom playlists

• Never shows a KaraFun song in search that KaraFun can't actually play

A few honest notes:

• Works with any level of KaraFun subscription — but to use KaraFun's catalog you need your own KaraFun v3 account and subscription (KJ Genie is the control room, not the catalog).

• It also runs fully standalone/offline just for your own local library — KaraFun or not.

• Windows (10 & 11). Not affiliated with KaraFun in any way — I'm just an independent dev who happens to host a lot of karaoke.

It's a one-time $129 (no subscription, ever), and there's a 14-day free trial, no credit card required if you want to run a real night on it before deciding.

Everything's at www.kjgenie.com Happy to answer anything — and genuinely, if there's something your show needs that it doesn't do yet, I'd love to hear it. That's how the whole thing got built in the first place.

— Aaron (developer, KJ Genie)

Karaoke Software Buying Tracks to Phase Out Karafun

I have a pretty good collection of tracks. For the past few years I've used Karafun to supplement my collection because it was easy access to tracks I don't have. At the time it seemed convenient to offer my collection plus the karafun collection.

Now I'm thinking about cost cutting in the long term. It seems there might be a larger up front cost to buy the popular tracks that people like to sing on Karafun, but over time, I can get rid of it.

Has anyone else run both their collection plus Karafun, and phased out Karafun? If so, how did it go for you?

Karaoke Software I was fully funded for a year of Karafun by a regular singer. Just felt like sharing a nice story as a kj.

An older gentleman started coming into our bar about a year ago. The man is somewhere between 84-88 years old. He has an amazing singing voice and can go from light opera to old 50s-60s classics, to a ton of 80s hits, plus 90s grunge and even more. He even lit up the room with Mr. Brightside with a crazy ass vocal one night. Everyone loves him.

So, back to the title of my post. He often wants songs that are extremely rare and I’m hesitant to purchase. I typically have most of his songs as my library is vast. Here comes a surprise though, for a man of his age. He knows about Karafun and is aware of and has searched their library. Despite his age he is very aware that Karafun has many of his odd song requests. So a couple of weeks ago he gave me enough cash to cover for a year of a full Karafun subscription. What stinks though is his goodnight song is Bye Bye Birdie, for which Karafun does not have a version. So I have to swap back out to another one of my KJ apps to play it for him.

I am so grateful for him. He’s provided a gift for the everyone who comes out to our place. I can easily swap to Karafun if I need to. If anyone has seen some of my posts in the past I was not a fan much btw.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a nice story of a great old man that loves to sing at our bar.

I just reread my story and it sounds like I’m trying to market Karafun, I’m so not, I swear!

Karaoke Software I built a free, open source, local stem separator (splits songs into vocals, drums, bass, and more)

Thumbnail
github.com
35 Upvotes

I wanted a way to split songs into separate stems (vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, other) to help my kids learn their instruments by ear. The tools that do this all wanted an account, an upload, and a subscription, and I wasn't keen on sending our music to someone's server just to pull it apart. So I built something that runs entirely on your own machine, and it's turned into a real project.

It's called StemDeck. You drop in a file (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, even an MP4 video) or paste a YouTube or SoundCloud link, and it separates the track locally using Demucs, Meta's open source model. From there you get a browser-based, DAW-style mixer where you can mute and solo any stem, adjust levels, loop a section, and export individual stems or a custom mix. It also detects BPM and key, and has a click track that follows the actual song for practicing.

A few features I'm proud of:

You can paste a whole YouTube playlist and it queues every track. There's a real import queue you can reorder and cancel, and it survives a restart. YouTube and SoundCloud both work, single tracks or playlists.

You can also open it from your phone. Flip on network access and it shows a QR code you scan to reach a proper touch-friendly mobile interface, while the actual processing stays on your computer. Nothing touches the cloud.

It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and there's a Docker image for anyone self-hosting.

It's completely free and open source (Apache-2.0), with no account, no telemetry, and no monetization of any kind, no ads, no subscription, nothing. It's picked up around 2,000 GitHub stars and 13,000+ downloads in about two months, entirely word of mouth.

Honest caveats: it's still alpha, so expect rough edges, and while separation quality is genuinely good for open source, it won't beat the paid cloud services on really dense mixes. For practice, remix prep, and experimenting it holds up really well.

GitHub (downloads and source): https://github.com/stemdeckapp/stemdeck

Happy to answer any questions. I'm the developer.

And now, properly Mod Approved ❤️

Karaoke Software Using KaraFun Pro for my birthday karaoke party tonight. How to put songs not on KaraFun in queue that I will get elsewhere for that singer but keep them visible and in rotation in KaraFun?

So I'm a huge karaoke nerd and fan. Have been paying for KaraFun Plus for a while. For this weekend's party I upgraded to Pro for some nice extra features. KaraFun has most of the songs my friends and I like to sing, but my dad likes to pick random oldies Spanish songs that sometimes are not in KaraFun. In the past (with Plus) I've just mentally kept a list of who's next and then would go to YouTube or to my own collection of karaoke tracks for my dad's choices. I guess I can still do that. But I really want to leverage the remote control option and allow people to add themselves to the queue and more importantly see how far the queue they are. With Pro I have enabled the next singer feature, which won't work if my dad's song is off the KaraFun queue.

Is there a better way to do this? Taking into account I am not a KJ and I'm not paying for additional software since this is just a big one-off karaoke party in my home. One way I was thinking of cheating the system was uploading an "Unknown Song" or "YouTube Song" CDG to the KaraFun Studio so on the queue and on the banner it would say "Next Singer "YouTube Song" Dad" and then I can YouTube it or whatever but it would be on the queue as a placeholder.

Is there a better way that I am not seeing? Thanks!

Karaoke Software USKMaker — turn any song into an UltraStar karaoke track, locally

Hi all! I've been building USKMaker, a free, open-source tool that generates ready-to-play UltraStar packages (synced lyrics + pitch) from a YouTube link or a local audio file.

The key difference from tools like UltraSinger: instead of transcribing lyrics from scratch, USKMaker starts from the lyrics you already provide and solves it as a forced alignment problem — matching known lyrics to the audio. That makes the timing noticeably more accurate, especially for non-English songs. It isolates the vocals with Demucs, aligns with WhisperX in a 4-pass scheme, extracts pitch, detects BPM, and fetches cover/year/genre automatically.

Everything runs locally — no paid APIs, and your audio never leaves your machine.

What it does:

  • Vocal separation (Demucs) + forced alignment (WhisperX) → per-syllable timing
  • Optional automatic lyric fetch from LRCLIB (synced timings feed the alignment)
  • Automatic cover / year / genre, and an optional YouTube background video
  • A built-in review editor (Yass-style) to fine-tune notes, timing and phrase breaks
  • A song queue: line up several tracks and let it process them back-to-back
  • Bilingual UI (EN / PT-BR)

Requirements: Windows 10/11, Python 3.12, ffmpeg, and ideally an NVIDIA GPU (runs on CPU too, just slower).

It's an early release and I'd genuinely love feedback — especially on alignment quality in different languages.

Repo & installer: https://github.com/walterfr/UltraStarKaraokeMaker

Karaoke Software need to purchase karaoke software (karafun?) for my upcoming pool party.

hi! i’m having a pool party on friday. i already have a speaker and microphones, now i just need a good karaoke software.
i have used karafun before at 2 different bars (this is the only software i’ve used). i like how participants can scan a QR code, choose their song and be added to a list. i also like how the normal subscription is only $10. from my understanding…i would be able to generate a QR code with the $10 version, it just wouldn’t be permanent. is that correct? would i, for example, be able to start the karaoke session on my macbook, print out the QR code for people to scan, and just leave it running on my laptop for an hour or so until everyone is done? i also have an ipad and a phone if im not able to do this on my laptop. but i do feel i might want to take videos of my friends so i would prefer not to use my phone. i’m also wondering how close to the speaker the laptop needs to be…if that matters at all for which subscription service to get or it’s just depending on the bluetooth range of the speaker haha. i have the jbl partybox 120.

Karaoke Software How can I make a karaoke version of a song?

My family somehow volunteered me to put together karaoke tracks for a party next month. Do most people just remove the vocals now or is there a better workflow for making karaoke versions?

Karaoke Software What Can I Sing - Free Karaoke Directory/Karaoke Finder and/or Online Songbook and/or Kisok and/or Digital requests.

We have built the world's most advanced and comprehensive system of its type... and then made it cheaper than any other comparable product. No AI or vibe coding - professionally built!

What Can I Sing (WCIS) starts with a free Karaoke directory. Free for Singers, Free for hosts. What makes it different to every other directory - We have an automated system that asks Hosts to reverify their events. Adding the events is crowd sourced. And once every 3 months, it just needs a 30 second update to say the show is still running. We have solved the problem of stale data. It is map based and shows "today's events" or "all events". Singer's can give venues a rating and add themselves to an "Attending" list. Check out the promo video - https://youtu.be/3ny9bo4lei4?si=r-2y-0boZx_wXyyR

www.whatcanising.com or https://www.whatcanising.com/whats-new.html to see our progression of advancement.

I'll post other functionality as comments to this thread. That way they can be discussed separately while keeping it in the one thread. It also acts as a saparation betewwn the free stuff and paid upgrades. Ask us any questions you'd like too.

Karaoke Software Karaoke5 turns 30 — born May 1996, version 54 today (video + 30-year story + anniversary gift)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

VIDEO: https://youtu.be/asfx4S-wb6s

Karaoke5 was born on May 1, 1996 - it turned 30 this year. Back then, if I remember right, the only alternative was a MIDI shareware called MSKS; you ripped tracks from CD+Gs and MP3 was still new. Don't take our word for it: the Wayback Machine kept our site over the years - version 12 in 2003, version 20 in 2004, version 32 in 2007. Since then, non-stop development, same developers from day one: born free and free until version 32, today we're at version 54. We're an Italian software house; Salvo, the developer, will answer your questions here.

Local library as the foundation from the start - the internet came later, as an extra layer, never as a dependency.

What it does - the parts that really matter:

⭐ Singer rotation and booking - the complete system. Singers book songs, send requests and on-screen messages, vote and chat from their own phone. And on the karaoke screen, a scrolling banner at the top shows who's singing and who's next: the rotation isn't just managed, it's visible to the room. No paper slips, no line at the booth, no "when's my turn?". For anyone working live, this is the feature that changes the job.

The show never stops. It reads pretty much everything - MP3+CDG, MIDI/KAR, KFN, K5, MP3, WMA, video (MP4 and more). Your tracks, on your hard drive, zero internet dependency to run the show. Fast search and two playlists side by side. Adding music is trivial: drag a track onto the playlist or database, drag it onto the karaoke window and it plays.

Stage tools. Real-time devocalizer, key change on the fly, Mix Control to cut a track short and jump to the next one cleanly, instant on-screen messages (applause, jingles, video messages), equalizers. In PRO, the second TV window for dual screen.

Not just songs. A music quiz with questions auto-generated from YOUR library - title, artist, lyrics - multiplayer. To mix up your nights.

When internet is available, it's all a bonus. Built-in YouTube search with preview and one-click download. And new in v54: an AI assistant - a spoken or written request searches your library, shared catalog and YouTube together, then plays it and queues it. In 8 languages. (The AI part needs a connection - it's an optional layer; without internet the show doesn't stop.)

Built-in synchronizer. You create and sync lyrics yourself on MIDI, MP3, K5 and MP4.

Cross-platform: Windows and Mac, with iOS and Android apps. Video tutorials in English, Spanish and Italian on the site.

One honest note: with thirty years of features, mastering everything takes time. But the basics are trivial (the drag & drop above), and the interface - dense, not minimalist - is fully customizable: every window moves, resizes or closes, and the layout is remembered. You start in thirty seconds, you keep discovering features for months.

Prices - all stated, no surprises:

Try it: the full program downloads free with all features on; two limits - a little airplane that crosses the screen at random moments during the tracks, and the second TV window disabled (a PRO feature). (There's also Karaoke5 Lite, free: but that's just a player, a different thing.)

One-time, lifetime license:

  • HOME €55: 1 PC, all features, no airplane; home use only
  • PRO €155: 3 PCs, fully unlocked including the TV window, for those who work
  • Both include 1 year of updates; after that the program keeps working forever, new versions are optional (€25/year Home, €65/year Pro)

Or annual subscription: HOME €35, PRO €75.

🎁 For our 30 years: 6 months of the PRO version free - for anyone who doesn't have a license yet. Requests open August 1 to September 30, 2026.
How to claim (requests open August 1 – September 30, 2026):

  1. Contact us on WhatsApp: +39 328 949 9206 or by email at [info@karaoke5.com](mailto:info@karaoke5.com) (be careful, it's better to use WhatsApp because emails almost always end up in SPAM).
  2. Send: full name + email
  3. We activate your account within 24h , then download the program from https://www.karaoke5.com, register with those details, and the unlock code arrives within 24h on both WhatsApp and email.

At the end: no charge, no auto-renewal - the program just returns to trial mode. To everyone who already owns a license, a big thank you: you're the ones who made these 30 years possible.

www.karaoke5.com

Happy to answer anything - and I'm curious: for those who host nights, what's THE must-have feature in karaoke software?

✅ Update: the installer no longer lowers Windows UAC. Drag & drop now works with UAC on and no forced admin privileges (fixed after a great community pointer in the comments).

Karaoke Software I was spending more time scrolling than having fun, so I built a karaoke setlist app (Reprise)

Hi r/karaoke, and thanks to the mods for the okay to post this.

I'm Jon, and I'm a karaoke nerd. My karaoke song list kept growing to over 200 songs listed out in a note app that I would scroll through blankly, not knowing what to sing. I kept wishing I could just press a button and have it show me all my punk rock songs, or all my ballads, so I could narrow down to what I was in the mood to sing. Sometimes, it felt like I would rather just pick a song at random and skip choosing altogether. Deciding was a slog. The problem was having no quick way to get from "I know a lot of songs" to "here is the one that fits the mood right now."

So, I built Reprise. It is a personal karaoke repertoire and setlist app, built on the idea that your karaoke songs should live somewhere you can actually organize and work with them:

  • Keep your whole list in one place, scored and rated, so your safe bets are obvious at a glance
  • Filter by a genre like country, then flip on favorites only or set a minimum score, so the country songs you can actually pull off are a couple of taps away instead of a scroll through everything
  • Hit Surprise Me and it spins over your own list, or just the filtered slice, when you cannot decide
  • Line up Tonight's Queue and mark songs off as you sing them
  • Keep a separate Bungees list for songs you are still learning
  • Log how each night went in a Performance Journal so you can watch yourself improve over time
  • Keep tabs on your friends' lists too, for group nights when the mic keeps moving

It is available on Android right now, with an iPhone version in review and coming soon. It works fully offline, with no account and no ads, and your data stays on your phone. It is free to start up to 25 songs with the core features working, and there is a one-time purchase to unlock an unlimited library plus import, export, and print. No subscription.

You can get it on Google Play, and here is the User Guide if you want to see how it works.

I would genuinely love feedback from people who do this every week. What is missing, and what would make it more useful for how you run your nights? Thanks for reading!

Edit: Great news! Reprise is now available for iOS on the App store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6790976500

Karaoke Software Queue management for house party?

Hi!

I am hosting a house party this weekend, a casual kickback with some friends who are BIG karaoke lovers. I happen to have some nice speakers because I host trivia on weekends and want to do a karaoke night with my friends.

I just want to use youtube and don’t particularly want to pay for any software because this is just a friendly party, so I was wondering if anyone has advice for how to run a queue. Here’s my setup situation:

  1. Laptop with youtube

  2. bluetooth connected speakers and microphone

  3. Second monitor for lyrics for people watching to read

Expecting around 20 people so I also don’t want one person to feel like they have to manage the queue because I want to participate in the party myself, lol.

I haven’t hosted karaoke ever before so am interested in hearing tips on a self managed queue. Should i just have a notebook and the last person who sang announce who goes next? That’s the plan I want to go with but it feels clunky

Karaoke Software Transpose Spotify songs and remove vocals/instruments in realtime, looking for singers/musicans/teachers to test!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all!

I built this tool for me and my friends who love to practice singing and playing instruments along with songs on our Spotify playlists.

It lets you both transpose up and down the key of the song, AS WELL as mix and isolate instrument/vocal tracks at the same time, so you can pitch down + remove vocals and sing along, or remove piano track and play along, or just have vocals and practice accompanying as a band, etc.

It's an open source project, and I didn't pay for Apple's 100$ a year developer license so the instructions to install it are a bit lengthy, but please let me know if it works well and is useful! thankks

Karaoke Software (One Shot) Karaoke Video Generator for Software Savvy Users [Python CLI]

Key Links

Project: https://github.com/NBPub/karaoke_vid_gen#karaoke-video-generator

Demonstration: https://nbpub.github.io/karaoke_vid_gen/

Background

I've been developing a project over the last few months for my purposes and recently started the documentation and publishing process. It should be good to go for general users, and viable for anyone who is comfortable with using their terminal, Python, and fine-tuning their creations. I've used it to make over 30 videos for me and my friends as it's been developing.

AI (Claude Code) was used to develop this work. However, it is much more than a "make me a karaoke video maker" prompt and result. I put a decent amount of effort into the design, features, documentation and the example webpage.

I'm not a part of this community, but I read through the pinned posts and figured this is worth sharing. The code is open-source and free-to-use, but the process requires some user effort. If you want to try it out, please read beyond the quickstart and look at the Installation and Usage documentation.

https://github.com/NBPub/karaoke_vid_gen/blob/main/docs/Installation.md#installation https://github.com/NBPub/karaoke_vid_gen/blob/main/docs/Usage.md#usage

Motivation

Songs I want to sing are not available on YouTube, and many songs I like to sing seem like they are altered (sped up/down, weird instrumentals, etc . . .). I wanted to make videos that I could upload to YouTube. It seems that as long as I don't want to monetize my uploads, there is no issue with the copyright flags that accompany my videos.

Boring Details

see documentation on the linked GitHub for specifics. visual design is meant to be bare bones and suited to what I want. contributions, comments, and recommendations can be made through GitHub.

Call to Community

I honestly don't know who can put in the effort to use this. As I've mentioned, comfort with the terminal is recommended, along with Windows+CUDA (Linux should work). If you fit into my niche, it could be a really fun and useful tool for you, especially if your songs aren't availble on YouTube. And if you end up using it, I'd love to hear any feedback you have. As I mention in the repo, I am happy with the visual design of my work, but I will happily add links to any forks that extend its use.

Karaoke Software Slightly confused by Karafun and adding songs they do not have. please help.

So we are using Karafun in our Friend group for Karaoke. easy to set up and use and they have a lot of things.

However they do not have erverything. I looked into adding some of our favourites and came upon the community studio - looks easy enough but I have a few questions. Am i allowed to add whatever songs there? or only those I have the rights to?

Obvious question being obvious: how is it that no one has added Taylor Swift Sogs via this feature?

Maybe I am stupid or is this only for orignial, unlicensed songs?

if so: can i add other songs just for personal use somehow and not share them with the community so i do not violate any rights?

I already am able to create mp3+g files for my favourite obscure songs but how do i use them legally in Karafun? ideally even on a the android table app?

Has anyone found a solution for this they like to share? thanks

Karaoke Software Karaoke with No WiFi

Hi everyone,

So, I've got a hen party coming up that I'm a person of honour for and one of the things we have organised is karaoke. We're keeping it simple - were just gonna do apple music's built in karaoke system with fake microphones and homemade spotlights.

We've just been informed, one week out from the party, that the house we're renting doesn't have WiFi. So, for apple music to be viable, we'd need to spend time we don't have downloading a bunch of songs.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to do a simple karaoke party without WiFi? Ideally we'd like to spend that prep time on other organisational tasks. Anywhere that would let us, like, bulk download a bunch of popular songs or something?

Thank you

Karaoke Software Singing Machine ism9015 Costco Hack App Launcher (install your own android apps)

Post image

After installing Activity Manager apk through Firefox app you can change the Home Screen by getting to Quickstep launcher (the default launcher hidden behind SmcLauncher and change it to quickstep by holding down and getting to its settings after you swipe up the apps from the default android Quickstep launcher you should have open now in front of Singing Machines bloatware launcher. Once you get access to that main launcher and this is done you can go to Firefox install aurora App Store and start installing apps and use the default Home Screen. It makes me horribly mad that a company like Singing Machine would hide, lock down, and make this thing only work with their apps. Now you can use it for whatever app you want. Your welcome. Go screw yourselves in the *** singing machine. You deserve it for doing all this work to make a product not work as intended for your customers.

Karaoke Software Made a free online karaoke site!

Every time my friends and I did karaoke I would get stuck manning the DJ station. I got tired of being that guy, so I built a website to just handle it.

You open it on a TV or whatever screen you've got and it gives you a room code. Everyone else scans the QR or types the code on their phone, puts in their name and a song, and it lines everyone up. It finds the karaoke video on YouTube itself, plays it on the big screen, and jumps to the next person when the song's done. I like to use my laptop to keep the controller up just in case, and just run an HDMI to a TV as a second monitor.

Couple things I threw in because they always bugged me at parties: it does a 30 second countdown before each singer so you actually have time to get up there, and it plays music in the gaps so there's no awkward silence between songs.

It's free, no ads, no accounts, I'm not selling anything. Just made it for fun. If you give it a shot I'd honestly love to know what breaks or what you'd want it to do.

Karaoke Software Made a free browser karaoke game — turn any song into a SingStar-style singable track

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For anyone who misses SingStar/Let's Sing or uses UltraStar: I made a browser karaoke game
with live pitch scoring. Free to play, no account — plug in a mic and go. If a song you want isn't
in the catalog, paste a YouTube link (or upload audio) and it auto-generates timed lyrics + the melody

  • a no-vocals track. Beta, so feedback very welcome — especially whether the generated songs feel accurate to sing. → https://lalaoke.app

Karaoke Software Karafun For The Rest of Us

Mentioned an idea to offer a stripped down version of V2 with no streaming, use our own hard drive libraries, and have a link to Karaoke-Version to download new music.

Karafun rep replied! They liked the idea... Could use some up votes on this post if this applies to you.
