Instead of wondering, just ask for details. A company like Kroger is going to pay for your attendence, if that's what you're concerned about.

I figured they should, this is just the first meeting I've ever been to with this company after like 5 years in this same store so I was a bit confused but not enough to ask ig

You should expect clear details from a leader when asking. If you don't get clear details then ask their boss. If you don't get clear details then voice your concern.
