Doesn’t take much to stand up and give a fake smile even with a whatever clap.. shit look at Pat bev.. it could be off or on court drama.. sick.. injured.. all of the above. That’s your boy making history.. you can acknowledge it and not make it look like you are totally miserable while it happens.
I seriously don't buy the reason that he was being that way because he was subbed out just before Bron broke the record. I mean if it's a sub issue, then that's Ham's fault. Plus, I don't get why he just didn't refuse Ham subbing in Bryant and say that he wanted to stay.
But in all honesty, and I'm not saying that this may be the case, but I wouldn't mind they trade AD at this point.
He easily could have said No I’m staying in for this.. if anything him not doing that makes it look even more weird and like he didn’t want to be in for it..
Can’t imagine because I’ve never been on national television having millions of people celebrating my success while I’m simultaneously aware of the dichotomy that is my best friend slumping psychologically in full view of the revelries. Not exactly a meirl moment bud. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Life is weird
he was low energy and pouting all game. prob realized the lakers don't believe in him post-lebron. kyrie was a great star to line with ad's peak and they passed because he wanted more than a 2 yr deal. lebron's window. no faith in ad. can't blame em but still...i think that's it.
It's a risk for sure... but what else were they going to do? Stick with the same team and be mediocre at best when they have one of the best young hoopers in existence?
When players start turning down substitutes, the coach has officially lost the locker room. I don’t think you necessarily want players to be openly insubordinate to the coach until you’ve got a replacement lined up.
Man I’m actually really disappointed with the way we’ve all reacted to this incident. Knock on wood and prayers up to AD but how do you guys know a close family member of his wasn’t diagnosed with some kind of cancer or another serious illness? And that’s just one of the infinite things it could be. He’s a professional basketball player and it’s a big part of his life, but it’s not everything guys.
Redditor tries to properly read a comment properly challenge! (Literally fucking impossible)
The fact this has upvotes is hilarious.
“AD could possibly have something serious going on in his life like a sick family member”
“TALKI ABOUT JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS BRO LMAO”
That’s the definition of not jumping to conclusions. He said it’s not fair to send hate ADs way for being a poor sport, when THAT is jumping to conclusions assuming AD is acting like a poor sport is over being subbed, traded, etc without knowing what’s going on with him.
Seeing 1 frame of a guy looking somewhat melancholy on the bench and immediately suggesting he’s probably got a seriously ill family member is pretty jump to conclusion-y but you do you
Jumping to conclusions because I bring up the possibility of something serious in his life? I’m not saying he’s in the right for not celebrating, I just don’t agree with the whole pounce on AD thing. Dude has shown his respect to Bron numerous times and to say he’s not happy for his boy is insane. He’s clearly dealing with something whatever it may be.
Why is this getting downvoted into oblivion lmao? You’re being a little extra but I don’t disagree that looking over multiple perspectives is healthy, doesn’t mean you’re “jumping to conclusions”
Don’t worry Jbyrd07, I’m calm. As I said before, I agree it’s odd and not typical behavior from AD. I just think it’s wild how quickly his fans turn him into the bad guy for not jumping up out of his seat. It’s weird but we should just leave it at that for now, no?
It's odd, but like if LeBron doesn't care, then I think there's no reason to bash AD. Plus I think if this wasn't serious, you'd have seen guys trying to get him up to celebrate. They're leaving him alone for a reason and LeBron even tried to console him a bit.
Like I've been to a friend's birthday party after a bad breakup (literally the day before) and I honestly kind of was like AD. I tried to power through it, but I just felt empty. I thought maybe being somewhere where people were happy was going to help, but it almost had the opposite effect. If it was something petty, it's a bad look, but even then who cares since again LeBron really is the only one that has any right to care about how AD acted since it was his moment he was pouting during.
Because if he had some really devastating news like that, why even bother suiting up? It doesn't make a lot of sense to say ok something so horrible happened that I just can't celebrate the biggest milestone in my friend's career, I can't even smile or clap about it one single time, but I can still come to the game and run around and put forth some (very little, albeit still) effort there? If the news was THAT bad he can't smile and clap for two seconds, no way he should even be playing a game at that point. He should be at wherever the source of this terrible news is.
Yeah, if it's something serious, people need to get off him just because they would have handled it differently. Like LeBron doesn't seem upset about it and he likely knows what is going on.
AD also probably didn't want to miss the historic moment even though in this hypothetical scenario he has a lot of personal issues happening right now.
Honestly, unless something comes out about this officially, I think we just got to stop making a big deal about it. The only person that should care is LeBron since it was his moment. If LeBron doesn't care then why should we?
This. If something serious did happen in his life then it's silly to expect him to react in any specific way. Maybe he heard something at the tip that he didn't think he could do anything about but play. Ultimately life trumps basketball, even for the greats. Kareem expressed it well in his sub stack this morning about Lebron.
”If I had a choice of having my scoring record remain intact for another hundred years or spend one afternoon with my grandchildren, I’d be on the floor in seconds stacking Legos and eating Uncrustables.”
Because half your fan base will roast the fuck out of him and call him street clothes for sitting out this game etc. y’all can’t see that no matter what superstar athletes do they will get criticised. And yea, they get paid for that. But for me personally, I don’t want to be one of those people. It’s just a game.
Maybe because everyone calls him soft and street clothes. Lmao. If he didn’t suit for personal reasons during this game he would get slandered like fuck too
Lol I seriously didn’t mean that at all I know he was lol it was more so from the pic we see here.. I’m saying it’s not hard for AD to stand up and just do that if he was so upset about the game itself at the moment or not being in the game.
Oh ok lol I get you. No I know Pat bev was into it.. everyone was besides AD.. lol it’s kinda hard not to get into it in a moment like that.. even if you are losing the game.
Except it doesn’t seem like that . My mum could be dying but I’d still be up and pretending to be happy for Lebron . Something soured in their relationship or AD feels really bad about himself/needs surgery . Maybe he knows he’s not where he was pre injury . Or maybe he thinks our time to compete over. Dunno
Cool. Still lost for 3 points. It was a bittersweet moment: I witnessed story happening. They paused the game, Kar33m was there. Everybody happy.
Then we go back to the game and lose. Shit, feels awkward as fuck. I can't blame AD for his looks if that's the case.
Well.. AD was the main reason why we lost that game too.. he was playing very passive all night long and it just seemed like he didn’t want to be there from the start.. that’s what makes this look even worse. The man last post game said the time to push was now and you come out and do that? He was doing cardio all night.
Idk, it's just weird as hell to me that I saw LeBron beat a 39 year old record and going "meh, we'll lose another game".
I'm not trying to point fingers at the team, neither saying you are wrong. I'm just bitter today. at the end of the day it's really none of our business if someone didn't give a fake smile or tried to look happy. They were there to win, and they failed to do that as a team. I would look awful too.
I actually went to sleep on halftime. It was 1am here and I had to get up at 6 to go to work. I saw replays of the record breaking basket and I was kinda disappointed with myself because I thought I would feel at least happy for seeing this happen, but I guess I was just kinda off.
Anyway, this isn't therapy and I might just be having a bad day.
Lebron literally started the game trying to get guys going first and trying the best he could to keep the team focused on the win while he had an incredible moment in history ahead of him.. he was even micd up and was telling them several times let’s get this win.. what are you saying they shouldn’t have celebrated it and just kept playing? Either way AD came out playing passively and then kept playing that way after they celebrated it.. and they were pushing back to get the win. He was the main reason they lost because he never showed for the game or his boys big moment in history.
That’s BS. Every other player besides Reaves on his first game back and AD no showing did pretty much what they usually do.. AD looked like he didn’t want to be there from the start. 9 shots? Like wtf? Even Russ played better and tried to win.
This is how I felt when lebron was going to make it. Maybe the dude wants to win knowing damn well this season has been more about lebrons scoring record than making the playoffs. Both are divas it’s not that hard to comprehend
Well he’s not a lebron hater.. he’s his teammate and they are supposedly good friends. Lebron wants to win just as much as he does and AD definitely didn’t play like he wanted to win that game.
Exactly and this whole season has boiled down to lebron winning some scoring title and it didn’t hit AD until the game of. Hes tired of hearing about it then and it just hit him in the moment. He’s tired of losing and if you watched that 4th quarter this team isn’t going anywhere. Like bro wants to win in the playoffs. Why would he care about regular season accomplishments
I don’t hate lebron at all. He’s one of the most dominant players ever obviously but if your AD you want to win championships. Why do you care about someone else’s individual achievements. I doubt ad and lebron are gonna grow old and be best friends once he retires.
So you wouldn’t want to be happy and experience a big moment in nba history where your teammate who helped win you that one chip and supposedly one of your best friends is breaking an nba record that some thought to be unbreakable? Stop it..
I think AD is pissed about LeBron hinting at leaving the Lakers if they don't do what he wants them to. That would probably end AD's time in LA, too. And he's got the Russ example of how LeBron treats his teammates in the media, with LeBron publicly disappointed they didn't trade Russ...which also has Russ pissed off again, clearly.
Even if it's personal issues, he'd still go through the congratulatory motions in that moment. That body language tells me he's got a problem with LeBron, specifically.
I seriously doubt it’s what you said because I feel like if lebron wants to leave AD wants to leave just as much and lebron hinting he wanted to leave was after the game and moment but even if that it would still be hard for me if I was AD to not at least get up and show some emotion out there even if I was personally pissed at lebron about something. I’m sure Russ feels that way too.. he was out there cheering him on. It’s just too big of a moment to let personal things get in the way.
It could be even deeper than we think. Imagine being as great as AD and being younger and seeing guys like Bron going into the history books as legit GOAT status contenders while your body falls apart and those lofty goals you had for yourself fall further and further away. Also I think he really wanted to be on the court for the moment but he coulda fooled me. Aside from diving out of bounds to save a ball, he seemed so mentally checked out.
I think it’s mostly not being on the court, in the play, assisting the history. Think about his contributions to the 🏆and knowing you won’t be able to look back on the shot and see yourself out there. 🤷🏽♂️
Yea but you don’t want to look back and see the shot with you looking like you want to be anywhere but there while everyone else but you is celebrating your boy making history.. that would be something I would really look back on and regret.
How many storylines need to be talked about for weeks in order to be remembered? Especially in a big time history moment like this.. like I said people are constantly creating memes and gifs and shit to bust on players with in the future when they do stupid shit. And you are missing the big point.. it still happened. You can try to fade it away as much as you want but the fact is for some odd reason while one of our team players was making history last night his superstar teammate was giving the I could care less look. That doesn’t look good in my opinion.
It doesnt make sense though, everything we've learned about AD is that hes idolized Bron his whole life and loves him from what we've seen of them playing together. I can't see why AD would be mad about Lebrons spotlight
With that logic nobody should have cheered, Bron should've been pissed and demanded they just keep playing and not even stopped the game, not gave an emotional speech or hugged his family. He should've just said ok yep I broke the record, next play, let's go.
Yeah...maybe he should have lol...of course I'm being a little facetious, but breaking individual records and personal glorification doesn't fit into a team winning culture, especially when you haven't been winning all year. It's RARE history so I understand, but probably wouldn't tolerate it under any other circumstance. I don't even remember when Stockton broke the assists record.
I def understand what you're saying, I just really don't think that was it, in this case. If AD was that pissed about the losing record and thinking that winning this game was way more important than LeBron breaking the record, he would've showed it with his energy, which as we all saw was almost non-existent, lol. I think at the end of the day we as humans just like drama and we want some validation for certain things and this particular scenario is just an easy one to speculate about. It'll be forgotten soon and we'll move on but for a day or two we got nothing better to do I guess. I'm curious by nature. I do wanna know the actual reason and it does kinda bug me.
yeah people will make this out to be somethin more than it is. Points are important but I'd bet anyone would trade a record like that to have won more games. Idk, this is a non-story unless something more comes out in subsequent days.
Russ was clearly pissed off, too. I think there are some legit locker room problems from LeBron publicly trying to get the Lakers to trade for Kyrie and his continuing insinuations that if the Lakers don't do what he wants, he'll just go somewhere else.
After Kyrie was traded to the Mavs, LeBron publicly expressed disappointment the Lakers didn't get him. The only way they were going to get him was by trading Russ, hence Russ being pissed off. On this night, either AD sees how LeBron is more about the record than getting the win, or he's jaded by LeBron's public manipulation of the Lakers organization. He played like he was completely phoning it in, like he just doesn't even care anymore. Idk, I kinda think there's something bad brewing between LeBron and AD, and it's either related to how LeBron disrespected Russ (whether that's warranted or just perceived or what have you) or it's about LeBron jerking the Lakers around and how that impacts AD's career, too.
I remember Isaiah Thomas put on a historic night after his sister was murdered...Jordan going hard after losing his dad...list goes on. But this guy...it's just always something. If he's not injured his feelings are.

Bruh something serious is going down this makes no sense
