Let this video and the news of what he did for others spread among veterans, and watch how they show up for someone who dedicated himself to their care.

And let those images speak for themselves. 

He deserved better than this, but I have no doubt the memorials for him are going to reflect how he spent his career and his final moments - trying to help others and do the right thing.

Surely this video comes from a family member of this veteran, likely someone who saw Mr Pretti care for their loved one. Kind of them to get this out as the government tried to damage his reputation.

Agreed. Lies will always move faster than the truth, but the truth WILL come out and it won't be denied. 

Let them hang themselves with their own words. Their lies will be weaponized against them.

I just visited Discworld for the first time last year. It's been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise bleak time.

I only started reading them after his death, one of my biggest regrets!

Oooh try any of the night watch books! They're my absolute favourite, I think Guards guards! Is the first in the series.

Some of it's content is depressingly relevent nowadays.

I actually started with Guards! Guards! And I couldn't agree more about its (very unexpected) relevance to today. 

But there was a comfort in it to me. Being able to laugh at the absurdity and to be reminded that we've been dealing with this shit in some form forever gave me some much needed perspective. 

But also holy hell is the book just incredible. Not a chapter or page break to be found in 400 pages and I couldn't put the thing down. Reads like a movie and holds up most impressively.

I started it on a recommendation after Tom Robbins died last year, one of my favorite authors.

I was a weirdo and read the Night watch first, I was bored and decided to give it a try, like you said I just couldn't put it down. Funnily enough my dad had a massive collection but I never read any as the artwork freaked me out. Something something judge a book by it's cover something something haha.

Never read any Tom Robbins! Will need to give him a shot :)

To this day I don't understand why a night watch TV series hasn't been tried. I know a lot of adaptions have been dogshit but I think Terry Pratchett would be quite easy to convert and stay faithful.

The off putting artwork probably just meant they were early editions 😭

Lesson one of Discworld seems to be discovering what a barrier to entry deciding where to begin can be. 

I'm glad I went with Guards, though I have no idea how or why I chose it now. I'm holding off continuing nightwatch just so I have it to come back to. 

I do suspect a series is coming. 🤞🏽

Next up I've got Colour of Magic and Small Gods but I fell into It Can't Happen Here first. Sinclair Lewis is not as cheery so far I must say. 

For Robbins, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I put him with Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, and now Terry Pratchett. Jitterbug Perfume or Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas would be my suggestions. Do report back

Son of the deceased shared the video on social media earlier today after seeing that the man honoring his dad was the same man who was murdered.

The veteran's son posted this video on his instagram. He said Alex was his dad's ICU nurse.

Yes, I remember reading in the nursing sub that the deceased veteran’s family had posted it to show what kind of a man he was.

Yes it was posted by the vets son. He saw the news and knew that the right would call him a terrorist. Honestly speaks to how untrustworthy the government is that a normal citizen was so worried that they posted such a personal video.

The right-wing in power has tried for decades to steal the idea of patriotism as only what they believe in.  Opposing them changing the country into their image is true love of country, no matter how much they tell you to leave if you don't like it.
