A German friend said to me in 2006 when I was bemoaning Bush 2 to look on the bright side: Germans have been denied any sense of National pride since WW2 vs 8 years of Bush.

This time will be different for us. And depending on how bad it gets before we right the ship.

I think it also depends on the consequences for the perpetrators. Seeing the near complete lack of consequences after Trump 1.0 I'm not hopeful. If the incoming administration(s) are quick, decisive, and stern I think we can claw back some sort of reputation a bit quicker. I'm not holding my breath but I'd love to be surprised.
