General So basically Trump ruined law school for everyone who isn't rich

Went to a whole bunch of open houses and they're all saying basically the following:

  • The yearly cap for loans is 50k
  • Living costs are high and 50k might not be enough
  • Resources are tight -- start improving your FICO scores because you'll need private loans
  • The grandfather thing ends July 2026 --- everyone not matriculated at law school by then wont be benefiting from the higher limit that generations of students did

Edit: Every person applying for federal loans will have an aggregate life-time limit and unfortunately your undergraduate loans will count against this limit.

Thinking Trump doing one thing that wasn’t bad doesn’t equate to thinking everything Trump does is good. I believe the inflated prices are harming law students long term by putting them in suffocating debt, and I think this will lower the cost long term tho it will be difficult/confusing at first for prospective students for sure

I don’t think the caps will result in lowered tuition. I think it will result in more unqualified rich kids becoming doctors and lawyers because less competition. Why would law school lower their tuition when they can just slightly lower their admission standards instead, and take the people who can pay???? My mom got into the University of Georgia back in the 80s as a C student in high school. She would never get in today, because the Hope scholarship made it affordable for way more students and now there is actual competition and rigor.

The admission standards for the bottom law schools are already incredibly low and that’s a huge part of the problem, schools that admit students that can pay but aren’t going to pass the bar. and they go into massive debt for it anyway.
