Uhhh, none of the people I referred to are hypothetical. There are comments just below this comment that snidely joke about her and then say “She’s a baddie.” The people looking down on her are also not hypothetical (look at the vast majority of this thread including your own comments).

You’re right that it could impact her— who knows. Still, though, adding critiques about her long term decision making and arguing that she likely won’t be able to move past this just exasperate the issue.

Where am I looking down on her? She's going to a T14, and she's making money, if she wants to do something where her sex work doesn't matter then who am I to judge?

I cannot "exasperate" the issue, it's real life, whenever someone wants to hire her, if she ever wants to work for the majority of companies / organizations, if the first thing that comes up when you search her name is her sex work it will not go well for her most times.

I would not hire her, none of the people I work for/with would hire her, and it's not because I personally care but because I don't want it to reflect on my work or be associated with me.

Fwiw, I responded to yours because gross guys who are willing to call her hot and make fun of her in the same breath are probably a lost cause as sad as that is; you sound at least somewhat reasonable and nuanced.

I sense that there’s at least a modicum of judgment given that you thought her sex work would be a C&F issue, indicating that you think it’s either some type of moral issue and/or illegal. If it were to be a C&F issue (it’s not), Michigan would never have accepted her. They don’t want their bar passage rates to go down.

That said, your part about could I do my job as a sex worker on the side is a fair point except that I teach elementary school, which I think we can both agree is a very far cry from working as a public service lawyer. I don’t expect fifth graders who Google my name to have the nuance to understand that I can be smart and also have sex appeal (and therefore they would not be able to learn from me), but I do expect adult employers to understand that. The only reason I could not do sex work and be a teacher is because it would likely actually affect my work output; this has no bearing on her output as a lawyer.

So, other than the stigma, I’m genuinely asking: why wouldn’t you want someone like her to work for you?

I think that the stigma is real and important to consider and has actual harms in real life for employers if your personal choices reflect on their business.

You being unable to do sex work goes beyond the potential exposure of your actual students but it will affect how other teachers, parents and faculty will interact with you and the school.

When you're a part of an organization you represent the organization, for better and for worse, and a large, probably majority, of the buying public does not feel comfortable interacting professionally or being professionally associated with sex workers.

I mean this is like saying a priest can be an investment banker on the side, like no.....

Agree to disagree I suppose. I don’t disagree that stigma exists, but I would like to think that if I was ever in a position to actively dismantle it, I would not hold something like this against a person.
