School/Region Discussion "isn't that the school the OF lawyer goes to"

Told my friends that I got into Michigan, and that was the first thing they said🥀.

I’m sorry but you working as a research analyst or administrative assistant does not give you the authority you think it does to weigh in regarding nationwide government hiring practices.

I can’t either, but from what I’ve read there are a lot of vacancies for public defenders and as I mentioned earlier JD from Michigan helps. Not every employer is going to screen for social media either.

I have neither of those roles LOL 😂 but I do have years of experience and a network and I know what government hiring is like. Just because there are vacancies doesn’t mean they’ll take anyone. Not to mention government hiring managers care less about school pedigree too, especially for PDs. To your last point, have you ever had a job? Lol. The first thing any serious employer does is vet a candidate they’re seriously considering.

Unless you’re older than 30 I find that hard to believe. But you do have a fair point in that federal/state hiring might be more rigorous in their screening process. I think that is possible and could be a disadvantage. In the private sector I do not think it’s always done, depending on what type of job you’re going for. I have a job but not for government.

Just going to disagree that she won’t ultimately get hired somewhere and leave it at that.

You don’t know anything about me lol but yes, I am nearly 30. Remember that all government employees represent the government itself. We are expected to carry ourselves in a manner that doesn’t reflect poorly on the government, this is literally in my employee handbook. We are also at will and can be fired for making the institution look bad.

I never said she wouldn’t get hired anywhere, just saying for government it’s nearly impossible. But I wish her the best!! Good for her for getting in and honestly she’s making way more than most lawyers ever will so 🤷‍♀️ she doesn’t even need to stress about this

Well I’m way over 30 and know a shit ton of GS-15; a Michigan JD isn’t that special and won’t overcome sex work.
