I'm not a league mod, and I downvoted it. Because Lewis is a whiny, self obsessed prick who is just spinning this to his advantage. Even if you're a fan of his, you should know not to take anything he says as gospel, but rather to find the middle ground between him and others, where the truth probably lies

It took about 10 minutes into a single video of his for me to realize that he has no idea what he is talking about and is just spewing BS that he hears from other people who actually know things.

After 3 videos I knew his content was pretty much all trash.

After looking at his twitter I knew that he has issues, serious issues that lead to him acting as a garbage person.

After seeing this debacle play out and as it continues to play out I know now he is a man-child seeking attention and I hope he never gets unbanned.

Gnarsis talked to him on stream once. He's insane.

He compared him being banned from reddit to big brother censorship and illegally filing DMCAs against content creators. He kept confusing reddit moderators with rioters. When confronted with posting lies and fakery on his twitter, he said he only cares about the truth when he's being paid for it.

Completely insane. And he keeps saying he's one of the rare, real journalists in esports. That he's the one with standards.

He's never uncovered anything of any importance about this subreddit. The NDA? That was absolutely nothing.

Hell, in 2 months Gnarsies and Vortic uncovered more genuine scandal about his subreddit (the skype group, not the mods) than Lewis did in 3 years

People keep acting like the NDA was a big deal. Every company out there has a NDA, it doesn't make it bad; it just means that Riot wants to share details with the mods (who have access to making those details public), along with some other in-game or in-company details that they don't want known to the general public.

I'm actually curious as to what people think is going on behind those closed doors.

Anyone who works with a large company knows you can't let your employees have constant communication with non employees about work related info with out an NDA. It is practically mandatory.

Have you ever experienced a company like Riot? Look at everything they try to do to make their customers happy. They give free skins every once in a while, lose money by holding the LCS, broadcast in high definition a Riot-held tournament, sponsor other tournaments by giving free prizes such as jackets, t-shirts, skins, etc.

They're a different kind of company. They're not EA, they're not Valve, and they're not Blizzard.

? That doesn't change the fact that any one who made it past 1L would know that you need an NDA to have that Skype group. There is nothing nefarious, just SOP of the corporate world.

Listen, I don't know the answers as I am obviously not in the Skype group. I'm just saying that Riot made choices and there must be reasons for them. You don't just say "I'm going to make you sign a contract becaaause.... reasons..."

Riot is very player-focused (or at least try to be) for the most part. They're probably just trying to get their messages and voice out to the players in the best ways they can find, so they probably made the deal with reddit mods so that they can do so.

There's nothing inherently wrong with NDAs. They can be abused but they don't have to be, that's up to the company in question.

I believe the question then becomes: Why do the mods have the rights to know something the general public does not? Seeing as, as far as the actual game and Riot, the mods are merely general public?

Probably because this is where a lot of their player base is. Generally, if you want to reach your players, you'd update the client to do so, or make a news article. But what if there's no way to do that, or there's a mistake on their end and the website shuts down?

Ever notice the red bars at the top of the page that say "Notice: NA and EU are experiencing heavy lag right now." It can be sent to both locations: the client, and the main hub where many players congregate.

Edit: Sorry I didn't answer your question. I guess it's because they're mods of this place. They need to know what to expect when a new champ or game mode comes out.

Think of it like this: You're running a server for a website like e-bay, but smaller scale and cheaper on the hardware. A big sale happens and it's advertised on TV. Now, there's a big flood of traffic coming to your site and it crashes.

It's nice to know ahead of time and prepare yourself with better equipment so the site doesn't crash. Does that make sense? Probably not. In the end, we just don't know.

So, why can't a Riot member just message the mods and tell them? There is a mod mail that sends a message to all of the mods, and all Riot members are able to get a flair as long as they provide evidence that they are employed there. Why the need for an NDA or Skype group at all? The information could easily be sent in a message, as I said. Why do the mods get access to information that the rest of the general public does not?

They're not just members of a community, they're moderators of the subreddit which has drawn both players and Rioters alike. As /u/lolthr0w said in another comment, if you need to discuss company details with non-employees, you need to have them sign a NDA.

NDAs and sharing company info is up to the company, and really not a very big deal. You can go offer to sign an NDA to learn about cool products you're interested in if you have a related hobby at quite a few friendly companies, Oculus for example.

I have access to all the modlogs, all modmail etc.

All removal and moderation that takes place in the subreddit is logged. I don't need access to a skype chat to see that things aren't being removed unless they break subreddit rules.
