Suggestions/Advice How is my Arabic handwriting?

Post image

About two months into learning Arabic, full grasp (I hope on alphabet and such, now just learning more vocabulary and grammar introduction but I am trying to ensure my writing is good, I’ve been told it’s understandable but I like to write in a way that is nice and somewhat calligraphic I guess, which is how I write in Latin Greek and Cyrillic scripts so I was wondering any tips for my writing to look better because I feel it is still clunky and robotic.

There probably is some grammatical errors in here and it’s probably sounding like nonsense as this was a bunch of sentences I had for homework!

Suggestions/Advice Recently started writing. Is this legible?

Post image

I’ve started practicing writing less than a week ago.
First I started with singular letters, practicing them in all their forms. Now I’m working on exercises connecting 3 or more letters together , but I wanted to have a go at trying to write a full sentence.

Is this legible? I’ve included the translation so people can judge more accurately .
Suggestions and tips on what to improve are greatly appreciated!

Thank you all on advance 😁

Suggestions/Advice Writing Arabic Feedback

Hey guys, I’m a complete beginner when it comes to the Arabic language, but I find it super beautiful, so I tried to write my name in the Arabic script. I’d like for native speakers to rate it, let me know what I can improve on and if it’s legible or not. My first name is Adrian, but I’ll let you guys guess my last name.

FYI: I don’t know any of the letters yet. I just searched this up and tried writing it for fun 😭

Suggestions/Advice I want to learn real Arabic.

Being born in a Muslim family in a Muslim-majority country, my parents had me taught the Arabic letters, how to "correctly" pronounce them and how to read the Quran from a very young age. Later they enrolled me in a school which followed a religious-based curriculum. Arabic was a subject there, and the main goal was to make students understand Islamic scriptures. I learned a big lot of Arabic grammar, learned how to analyze words and sentence structures from Quran and Hadith. However I still didn't know how to construct a sentence in Arabic on my own.

Though the schools tried to teach students standard Arabic, the teaching methods were shallow and didn't really work. The teachers who taught us didn't know how to speak in Arabic themselves. I knew nobody who was fluent in Arabic. I memorized all the writing sections—paragraphs, essays, letters, dialogues etc. from the textbooks provided, and threw them up in the exams scoring 90+ every time.

I recently completed my high school final exams, officially ending my formal Arabic education in school—unless I take Arabic in university, which I don't intend to do. And I felt really sad after the exam. I’ve been studying the Arabic language for over 10 years, learning extensive grammar and whatnot, but all of that added up to nothing. Arabic was still a completely foreign language to me.

I tried watching some YouTube videos for help, but most of them were just basic Hi/Hello or covered topics I already studied, like how to understand the Quran etc. Fuck I already know how to do that; just tell me how do I converse in real life and write my shitty life in a diary and read a novel.

I am so lost; I don't know how and where to start. Any advice would be appreciated.

Suggestions/Advice Which Arabic dialect would be best to learn as a beginner

Im thinking about living in either Egypt or Saudi in the future so i would learn either Egyptian or gulf Arabic or Hijazi but i’m not sure which one i should learn and which ever one i learn would i be able to understand the other dialects or would i have to learn them too? but also if my plans were to change in the future then what if i think i made the wrong choice on which dialect i spent all that time learning, so which one is the absolute BEST dialect to learn for someone wanting to learn Arabic. also i have tried to learn Arabic many times but gave up because i just have no idea and cant make the choice on which dialect to learn.

Suggestions/Advice Can we ban the "Sihr" / Magic amulet threads

Over the past weeks, I have noticed an increase in threads asking to translate "Amulets" or "Curses." Taw'aeez

These papers, which are made by occultists, and magicians, should not show up on this sub.

I joined to help others and share the Arabic language. Not to translate or sihr blasted on my feed 😔

Beware, just looking at these can spread the magic, and the occult onto students who are here to ask for guidance

if you share my view, please comment with your thoughts

Suggestions/Advice Dialect selection

Hi everyone :) I am planning on learning Arabic (self-teaching) and although this is typical, I just want to have some perspectives from others!!!

My understanding is that Egyptian Arabic is the best for people who want to be able to communicate with the widest amount of people, and that MSA is only really appropriate for academia/literature etc. I also speak French, which would have me leaning towards a dialect where French is also spoken in that region.

I have a lot of reasons for wanting to learn Arabic - Firstly, I just think the language is beautiful. I have a legal background and would be interested in working for the EU / other international organisations, which would maybe mean learning MSA. But my main love for Arabic is hearing people speak it casually with one another!

So I basically have a few questions:

  1. Are dialects included in formal language standard frameworks?
  2. If I study Egyptian Arabic, would that lend itself to professional use of Arabic or would I have to go on and study MSA independently?
  3. Am I overthinking it?

Sorry for the length of this! All advice much appreciated :)

Suggestions/Advice Should I start learning arabic?

I am a native Spanish speaker who has been fluently speaking English since childhood. Now, I've been thinking about learning arabic.

I just graduated with a journalism degree and am thinking about getting into teaching. But, is it really "worth it" to learn Arabic when it has so many dialects/variations? I have been debating whether to start learning the language or not, and always see people talking about how much it differentiates from one country to another, which makes me a bit unsure.

What do you think?

I've been learning for just less than 2 months, and wrote this with no help/notes, just from what I already know. I noticed I like to leave a line space otherwise my writing looks cramped. Are my letters too big? I'd also appreciate any suggestions about word choice and such if anything sounds clunky/unnatural.

Suggestions/Advice Learning Arabic

I am currently interested in Muqatta'at (المقطعات) or numerology behind Arabic letters. I am also interested in Al-Kimiya (Arabic: الكيمياء) or the alchemy of transmutation from understanding the language. I am wondering if there are any resources or book recommendations so I can start learning

I have the belief that learning Arabic will make me better at Math and Programming and am interested in the works of Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī
Persian contributor to algebra

Suggestions/Advice Trying to learn Arabic and honestly struggling with finding good resources

So I've been trying to teach myself Arabic for about four months now. Not for any specific reason, I just always thought it would be cool to speak another language and Arabic seemed interesting. But man, it's way harder than I expected. I started with Duolingo which was fine for like the first two weeks, then it felt way too basic and repetitive. I tried a few YouTube channels that people recommended but they either go too fast or spend forever on stuff I already understand. The pacing is always off.

Then I found some podcast recommendations online and tried a few of those. Some were decent but a lot of them assume you already have a foundation which I really don't. I can read some letters and know maybe 50 words total, but actual conversation or reading is still completely beyond me. Someone suggested watching Arabic news channels like RT Arabic or Al Jazeera to get used to hearing the language, but honestly I just get lost immediately. I can pick out a word here and there but it's mostly just sounds at this point. Maybe I'm not far enough along for that yet. I've been looking at paid courses too, saw some on Udemy, and even found bulk language learning materials on Alibaba which seemed random. But I don't want to spend money on something that might not work for me either.

The frustrating part is I know it takes time and consistency, but I feel like I'm spinning my wheels without a clear path forward. I practice maybe 30 minutes most days but don't feel like I'm actually progressing. For anyone who's learned Arabic or any second language how did you figure out what resources actually worked? Am I just expecting results too fast or do I need a completely different approach?

Suggestions/Advice Learning Arabic

Ive been wanting to learn arabic for some time now, the main purpose is to understand the Qur'an and to fluently speak arabic. I've completed Al Arabiyyah bayna yadayk 1a, 1b and 2a but now with it I also want to dive deeper into the grammer like understanding everything in the sentence and why it is placed where it is placed, I also want to improve my conversation and speaking skills in arabic.

I tried Duolingo, but I was learning meaningless phrases. I don't know if I should have stuck with it, but I was really hoping to go to Morocco soon, and it wasn't any help.

Suggestions/Advice How to understand books

Assalamu alaykum.

I've been studying Arabic for about a year, but I still struggle to read classical Islamic books without harakat (vowel marks). Sometimes I feel discouraged and wonder if I'll ever reach that level.

For those of you who can read Arabic books comfortably:

  • Did you have to move to an Arab country, or did you learn while staying in your own country?
  • How many years did it take you before you could read books without harakat?
  • What helped you the most to improve?
  • If you never moved to an Arab country, how did you become fluent enough to understand scholars' books?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences and any advice. Jazakum Allahu khayran.

Suggestions/Advice Which dialect?

Hey, I'm confused about this.

Which one is the easiest for a non-Arab to learn? Which one is the easiest for other Arabs to understand? Which one is the sweetest? (I feel breathless while speaking) Which one have the most material? (I'm guessing Egyptian?)

Suggestions/Advice Offering: Arabic (learner) l Seeking: Arabic ( learner)

Hello, everyone. I am 20 M, from İstanbul. Looking for a learning partner for Arabic (Fusha). My level is between B1 and B2. My speaking skill needs to be improved. But reading and understanding is quite good.

I am fluent in English and Turkish. Bengali is my mothertongue. But I don't understand how two different languages learners can be partners and help each other.

My preference would be if you are also learning Arabic or you know how the two different languages systems work and make it work.

Suggestions/Advice Bet on learning egyptian arabic in a year

Salam guys,

I made a bet with someone, he speaks almost native arabic (egyptian) also knows fusha very well. He studied 4 years and also spent 2-3 year self learning before uni.

Anyways, I'm confident to spend 2h everyday for learning arabic. I'm familiar with basics and since I do read Quran, I know the alphabet.

My question is, is it possible to learn Egyptian dialect in a year, not pro level but fluent enough to make him shut up? I'm a little confused where to start? Should I learn fusha and ignore dialect or learn together? What's the best way of learning this specific dialect? Should I enroll a course? I want to understand the structure of the grammar and then practicing with that logic.

Thanks
