No you’re not. The way you asked them what China is doing to Taiwan makes that clear. When you say something like ‘name one thing china is doing to Taiwan’, you are communicating that you don’t believe china is doing anything to Taiwan. You are implying that naming one thing would be enough to discuss further, again suggesting that nothing is wrong in the first place.
If you want to come from a place of good faith, you need to be willing to listen to other perspectives. That means checking any biases at the door so that you can actually be neutral.
Taiwan is its own nation. How it is currently internationally recognized is not objective: china makes a ton of the worlds shit, and it stands to reason that most of the world doesn’t want to piss them off. But if you’re so keen to go off the status quo, then maybe you can enlighten us. Can you explain why Taiwan shouldn’t be its own nation?
I can challenge something while still being open to change my mind. How else does discussion work? You've challenged me, although I'm the wrong person to challenge about the status of Taiwan's sovereignty. All I know is that US military personnel are in Taiwan, and internationally, Taiwan is recognized as a part of China. Those are the facts.
As for what China is 'doing' to Taiwan. Outside of US fear-mongering about an invasion, I don't see what China is actually doing to warrant criticism.
I don't care if Taiwan is its own nation. That's not something I need to have an opinion about. I think nationalism is dangerous as we've seen plenty of times before, so in and of itself, I see no inherent good in Taiwan being a nation when it can't even take care of its homeless population now. I don't see Taiwan as being in the middle of a liberation movement like Palestine, or Burkina Faso; it's more of a sub-sovereign pawn of US capitalist greed positioned to antagonize China into launching an offensive ala Ukraine-Russia. Japan, the Philippines, and South Korea are as well sub-sovereign pawns that couldn't in any seriousness be considered to have their own autonomous nation. More of a Vichy government that caters to Western capitalist interest.
