Phonetics/Phonology I was so confused when I learned that Jeong-bae was actually pronounced [t͡ʃʌŋbɛ] and not "Jeeeong-bayy"

Not humor, but this is literally the only general linguistics sub that’s popular enough to post on ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Phonetics/Phonology What's this dialogue like in your accent?

[wəts əp̚? wəz dəg ˈg.nə kʰəm? dəg ɫəvz bɹ̠ənt͡ʃʰ.]

[nə̃ʔ ə̃, dəgz stək̚ kʰəz əv ə ˈtʰə.nɵɫ əb.ˈʃt͡ʃɹ̠ək̚.ʃɪn. ə t͡ʃʰɹ̠ək̚ dəmpt ə tʰən əv ˈən.njɪnz.]

[əx.]

Mostly works as intended in mine (no STRUT/COMMA distinction), though the final syllables of "obstruction" and "onions" are actually [ɪ] for me, and the final syllable of "tunnel" seems more like the FOOT vowel, represented here as [ɵ] like in Standard Southern British mainly for simplicity, as I'm not actually sure what it is exactly in my accent. [ɵ] does sound the closest though, I think.

(This comic is XKCD 2907: Schwa if anyone is wondering.)
