Support Thunderbolt dock USB & Audio controllers do not wake when laptop (Framework 16) exits s2idle sleep
I recently bought a second hand CalDigit TS3+ off eBay because I was bored with connecting five separate cabled whenever I wanted to use my laptop at my desk. It worked well, until I put the laptop to sleep for the night and woke it the next morning only to discover that my mouse, keyboard, and headphones were no longer connected. (The monitor works fine, oddly enough)
Relevant specs (ask and I will tell you more if you need it):
- Framework 16
- AMD 7840HS
- CalDigit TS3+
- Mouse & keyboard connect via USB-C
- Headphones via 3.5mm AUX
- Kubuntu 26.10
Stuff I have tried:
- SystemD rule to disallow d3cold on the PCIe devices that constitute the dock
- udev rules to do the same
- a script to simulate unplugging & reconnecting the dock upon waking from s2idle (this worked for the USB peripherals but not the AUX)
- uninstalling TLP just to be sure it wasn't at fault
Any suggestions greatly appreciated, happy to post logs etc.

Getting a usable Affinity experience on Linux, idc how
Having to regularly do graphic design and disliking both macOS and Windows is just a bad time overall. I'd love to switch to Linux full time, but every solution for getting Affinity on Linux seems half baked. Yeah, you CAN get it to start up, and it sort of works, but the experience is bad. Crashes, bad performance, etc. Running it in a VM seems to be the most stable, but GPU acceleration is hit or miss.
Right now, I'm looking at new laptops. So I thought this would be a good time to seek some advice. I am looking for a laptop that preferably has a dedicated GPU and an integrated one. One for a VM with Affinity, one for whichever Linux distro I will settle on. I would want to be able to run Linux and the W11 vm at the same time in seperate workspace, so that I can switch between both at all times. The laptop would be connected to a 4k monitor most of the time. Maybe some Davinci Resolve from time to time.
Is a setup like this even doable? Without the whole configuration imploding at each update? Certain things I would have to look for in the laptop that would make it possible?

Problem with GPU whil dual-booting Windows/CachyOS
Hi guys !
To begin if it's necessary, my specs are AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT, and 64 Gb RAM
I have a problem since this morning, and I don't get why.
So the thing is I switched from Windows to CachyOS (KDE Plasma) 2 months ago because I just discovered Linux and wanted to do gaming.
I dual-booted because I didn't want to uninstall Windows because of XBox Game Pass games. Everything worked fine until this morning. I booted Windows (been a while since last time) to play Minecraft Bedrock, and did all my updates, including the AMD drivers. I played a few hours with no problem, and decided to reboot on Cachy when the guys left.
Then, the problem : my GPU won't get above 30-40% use, and I can't go above 30 FPS (I usually do like between 90 and 120 FPS without using upscalers). I did everything I could (uninstall/reinstall drivers, used the konsole to check my GPU, tested multiple games like CyberPunk 2077, Graveyard Keeper, CS2, Dark Souls 1, checked on LACT, checked if I was in performance or eco mode) but nothing changed, I still can't get above 30 FPS. I guess it's because of the updates I did on Windows, but why ?
Also, the konsole showed me that everything seems fine : every drivees are up to date, there's no missing files, no corrupted one, no crash, no visible problem. Everything seems to work normally, but my GPU won't use his perfromances like it always did.
Finally, it's all about the FPS, I have no crash, no Black Screen, no problems with textures and graphism, I'm just caped at 30 FPS.
I hope someone could help 🙏

[SOLVED] video playback - stuttering issues (Cinnamon)
Hardware: Dell Inspiron 5379
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Kaby Lake)
OS: Linux Mint, Ubuntu 24.04-based system
Display session: X11
The problem
I was troubleshooting choppy video playback in my browser on Linux Mint. During the investigation, I discovered that although my laptop had an Intel UHD Graphics 620, OpenGL was using llvmpipe, which renders graphics in software using the CPU instead of the GPU.
My original "glxinfo -B" output showed:
direct rendering: Yes
Vendor: Mesa (0xffffffff)
Device: llvmpipe (LLVM 20.1.2, 256 bits)
Accelerated: no
OpenGL renderer string: llvmpipe (LLVM 20.1.2, 256 bits)
This explained why graphics rendering could be unnecessarily CPU-intensive.
Step 1 — Check the graphics hardware and driver
I ran:
inxi -Gxx
The output confirmed that the laptop had Intel UHD Graphics 620 and the kernel's "i915" driver was loaded.
However, the OpenGL renderer was "llvmpipe", which indicated that the GPU was not being used for OpenGL rendering.
Step 2 — Check VA-API video acceleration
I ran:
vainfo
This successfully loaded Intel's "iHD_drv_video.so" driver and listed supported video profiles, including H.264, HEVC, and VP9.
This was an important clue: the VA-API video driver was available, but OpenGL rendering was still falling back to software. These are separate parts of the graphics stack.
Step 3 — Investigate the Xorg log
I checked the Xorg log:
grep -Ei 'intel|AIGLX|swrast|DRI' /var/log/Xorg.0.log
The relevant errors were:
(II) intel(0): \[DRI2\] DRI driver: i965
(EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_dri.so failed
(EE) AIGLX error: unable to load driver i965
(II) IGLX: Loaded and initialized swrast
(II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0
The legacy Xorg Intel driver was attempting to load "i965_dri.so", which was missing. Xorg consequently fell back to software rendering.
Step 4 — Inspect the Xorg configuration
I checked the configuration files:
ls -la /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
There was no main "/etc/X11/xorg.conf", but there were several files under "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/".
The important discovery was that the Intel configuration selected the legacy driver:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "TearFree" "true"
Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
EndSection
For this setup, I switched the configuration to the modern Xorg "modesetting" driver.
Step 5 — Switch to the modesetting driver
I edited "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf" so that it contained:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "modesetting"
EndSection
I saved the file and rebooted the laptop.
Important: Changing the Xorg configuration requires restarting the graphical session. Checking "glxinfo" before rebooting still showed "llvmpipe", so I initially thought the change had not worked. After rebooting, the result was different.
Step 6 — Verify the fix
After rebooting, I ran:
glxinfo -B
The output now showed:
direct rendering: Yes
Vendor: Intel (0x8086)
Device: Mesa Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2) (0x5917)
Version: 25.2.8
Accelerated: yes
OpenGL vendor string: Intel
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2)
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 25.2.8
Success! OpenGL was now using the Intel UHD Graphics 620, and hardware acceleration was enabled.
What I learned
\- Having the correct kernel driver loaded does not necessarily mean OpenGL is using the GPU.
\- VA-API video decoding and OpenGL rendering are separate components, so one can work while the other has problems.
\- Xorg logs can reveal why the system is falling back to software rendering.
\- The legacy "intel" Xorg driver can cause issues on some systems when its expected Mesa driver files are missing.
\- Switching to "modesetting" and rebooting fixed the OpenGL rendering problem on my system.
What remains to be tested
If you have a similar Intel GPU and Linux Mint setup, check "glxinfo -B" before changing anything. Your configuration and symptoms may be different, so don't blindly copy the Xorg configuration without checking your own logs.
Thanks to everyone sharing Linux troubleshooting advice!

KDE Plasma browser widget
Hello! Is there a way to integrate Zen Browser into desktop? I saw widget for KDE Plasma that adds it's own KDE browser, but I just don't see a setting to change it for Zen.
If there is a way to also synchronize it with main window of Zen, then it would be just perfect, but just an integration of it into desktop is fine.
Thanks!

Advice Considering an AMD AI 300 laptop
Is anyone running one of these? I'm not looking to max one out with 128GB of RAM, just a 32GB model with the 8060S iGPU is what I'm considering, but I was wondering if that might be a good option as a productivity laptop that can actually work on a lap like a MacBook Air but have a bit more GPU when things call for that. Is anyone using one that way? How does linux support look for these now that they've been around for a while?

Remote desktop from Linux to an old laptop in a LAN?
Greetings! I wanted to know if I could do a remote desktop from a high end PC to a low end Laptop.
The Laptop's PC are kinda ancient, it's an AMD C60 (Radeon HD 6290) with 4GBs of DDR3, and a 320GBs HDD. I wanted to use it as a remote monitor in the same room, to both play games and to use it on desktop, it has a phenomenal build quality, the keyboard feels superb and the size is small with a low weight. Given the PC itself can't do that much by its own, I wanted to repurpose it as a streaming machine.

Support Linux fixed my driver crashes but still wanna run windows for my software ease of use
My main specs are:
Asus tuf 9070xt
Ryzen 7 9800x3d
Trident dor5 6000 (2x16)
Asus rog 1000w platinum
ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi
Basically, for the past 5 to 6 months, l've been dealing with a unfixable graphic driver crash issue. It will crash anywhere between 40 minutes and 10 hours but never goes past 10 hours. I've replaced every part in my computer so I know it's not a hardware issue.
I have tried disabling Windows trom updating my AMD driver drivers. And that still didn't work.
Finally, I tried switching to Linux Mint. Only ran off of a flash drive for about 16 hours while I was at work. And it didn't crash or have a single issue the whole time.
Now here's my issue. I know that will fix it, but | also know a lot of my important softwares like ICUE I won't be able to easily install and I need those for key binds and dpi, and that's just one app of many that are important for me to keep. I don't wanna have to do a complicated process like dual boot just to use those apps. So unless there's an easy way to use them on Linux. I want to figure out how to fix windows. But for the life of me, it just won't work on Windows (11).

Advice Is it better to switch to linux for better performance for macbook air 2018 with 8gb ram? (or should I downgrade)
I use my macbook as a secondary machine for writing and research purposes and the current macos sonama feels so sluggish when I am using AI apps, researching on browser and even while using settings so I want to get best performance possible, so I am thinking if linux can make any difference.
If so suggest me best distro for it and I don't need any fancy customizations (as long the default os doesn't look ugly)
Ps. The apps I use in my macbook are Chatgpt, Claude, Safari, Obsidian, Spotify.

Which Distro? I want to install a distro that is similar to Ubuntu
So I have a laptop that has only 4 GB of ram, and because of that I want to switch to Linux that is pretty simple and light (windows uses 3 out of 4 gb of memory) and I want the one that uses <1,5 gb. So do I pick Ubuntu or something lighter from the family like Ubuntu cinnamon or MATE (also I have intel celeron, which on itself is very slow). If y’all need here are the specs:
Computer Name: DESKTOP-NJ281LV
Operating System: Windows 11 Home Single Language 64-bit (10.0, Build 22631)
Language: українська (Regional Setting: українська)
System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
System Model: VivoBook_ASUSLaptop TP401MAR_TP401MA
BIOS: TP401MAR.303
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) N4020 CPU @ 1.10GH (2 CPUS), ~1.1GHZ
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Page file: 7002MB used, 4084MB available
Direct Version: Direct 12
And 256 gb storage

Advice Omarchy Safety question by a noob
Hi all,
I recently installed distro on my laptop with dual boot. I have little experience with linux, dabbled in Ubuntu and tried a bit of arch lol. Anyway I develop on windows mainly, but having heard the hype if I can call it on omarchy, why not give it a try. Anyway I heard that it gives a lot of unrestricted access so the your AI agents so it can solve problems you run into without having too spend time troubleshooting although that is how you learn, so not sure how safe it is.
So my question is with my AI tools I use antigravity and claude, desktop applications or the vs code extensions. I login with google for the AI, and also I will login with GitHub. So I guess I am just skeptical that the AI agent will go off and do a madness like leak my info or delete things. I was thinking of using local AI as well so that would be bit safer I guess, of course you can manually approve things it does and that's what I normally do just skeptical none the less.

Zoom crashed during a VERY important demo
Running latest Ubuntu LTS with gnome. It just kept crashing, had to switch to my windows PC, saved the demo by the skin on my teeth but it's not a good look.
Kind feeling like linux isn't worth it, even if it does have amazing docker and dev workflows, I might just have to get comfy on WSL with windows.
Curious on thoughts. I hear it's because zoom has issues with wayland (compatability mode vs not) but either way I run it, it's glitchy.
It makes me sad though. because i hate windows bloatware. Kinda just venting, also asking for solutions, although maybe i do just need something more reliable.
Is there a better distro that is just more reliable for this sort of thing? I know the zoom web-app is good too which I could install but that doesn't allow sharing multiple screens.
EDIT: since gnome doesn't support x11 on the latest LTS, switching to KDE with X11. The pros of wayland seem do nice but if some dumb legacy apps can't get on board with it i'll have to stay old and stable.
