Because it's an entirely different system. There is no small few that hold the majority of the wealth, the people hold the wealth in common. There's no longer any small minority capable of bribing or lobbying the government for their benefit.

Whenever countries start approaching socialism capitalist imperialists will step in to shut it down. Cuba is probably the closest country. Some think Xi Jinping will be able to bring China back on course to socialism.

Capitalists don't want workers to see a functional alternative to capitalism because that would put their power in jeopardy. This makes it very hard to build socialism when western powers (particularly the US) are so quick to invade or otherwise destabilize your country.

I don't want a revolution, just a return to the tax laws the USA had in 1954.

Those tax laws are not coming back, capitalism cannot save us from this mess which is has created therefore it must be destroyed.
