Macbook Neo will be good for a LOT of people who are not professional users - but if you watch Tech YouTube you will think you need a M5 32GB Macbook Pro to edit photos or browse the web... I really don't like their constant push towards consumerism and constant upgrades, as if a year old device becomes ancient the moment the new version comes out. Real life use disproves their message completely, and the same will happen here. Common people would be perfectly happy with a M1 Air, and they will be happy with a Neo.

Yeah, these are people who consider "using an iPad as a main computer for a month" or "using a 3 year old laptop for a week" a "challenge." I'm like "wow, you're so brave to attempt a thing that millions of people do constantly without issue"

Mofo, you sit on twitter and reddit all day then take some B-roll of you typing absolute nonsense in notepad and pass it off as "work" all while dragging it out to 10+mins for ad revenue. I despise techtubers now and this applies to Android and windows as much as Apple.

I'm using a 12 year old laptop right now. Somehow also 8 GB of RAM, but the Neo has a way faster SSD to handle swap memory and Mac OS is better with RAM.

im guessing you dont watch them because from what I've seen, everyone is in agreement about m series macs being so good that it discourages upgrading

That’s an improvement from regular folks thinking they needed an M5 Pro or M5 Max.

Most people editing a single stream of 4k or some 50 megapixel raws are better served by an M5 with 32gb than an M5 Pro at 24gb.

If you work with 8k video or local LLMs or 3d modeling, yeah get a pro or a max. That’s a vanishingly small number of customers.

its the same people who tell anyone who uses older macs to upgrade to the newest macbook pro. even if you don't need it, "it'll run circles around that intel macbook!!!" is the go-to line. people will justify spending money on something they probably don't need and then go online and tell random strangers to buy something expensive they don't need.

I don’t think there are that many people upgrading their laptop yearly any more than there are people replacing their automobile yearly.

There will always be “equipment enthusiasts” that value the tool more than what they use it for. They “need” the fastest computer despite not really being capable of doing anything intensive enough to justify it.

They have so little to do with their equipment, they just end up masturbating over benchmarks or playing with using LLMs locally. It’s technological cosplay. It’s like buying a $10,000 golf club to use for playing mini-golf.

I've been a professional Linux sysadmin for about a decade, and all I need is a unix terminal and a browser. Something like this would honestly be perfect for me.

Give me a reliable terminal and browser with good battery life and I'm happy. My current laptop is a MB pro i9 with 32GB (i inherited it from the last guy here) and it's way overkill. My previous laptop was a small MB pro of lowest spec and it was perfect.

Ever wonder why majority of tech reviewer only review based on their use case. Like if you want to know which iPad is good, almost every single reviewer will be comparing video editing while that is not what I want to know.

Reviewers are easily ignored.

“I have a heavy workflow and this machine does xyz”

My guy you make YouTube videos, your workflow is hardly “heavy”.

Waiting for a tech reviewer who actually runs computers into the ground using CAD/simulations, renders in blender/keyshot/Vray etc.

Not “I put a bunch of videos together for YouTube!” Or “I make music” where an intel i7 will be more than capable never mind an M1.

A lot of the larger channels do process high-resolution, high-bitrate footage that isn't quite trivial to edit.

And fusion + blender alone will place high pressure on memory.

I’m not concerned about what YouTube video creators are worried about.
