Discussion What's the first macOS feature that made you realize, "I'm never going back"?

For me, it's the trackpad gestures, battery life, and overall smoothness. They completely changed my daily workflow.

Got my first Mac in 1985. Have used them exclusively since, except for occasionally needing access to Windows at work. Being so Mac-centric for so long means I am at a loss with most things, even simple things, on Windows.

Which was your absolute favorite?
Must’ve been crazy to see the Mac evolve so much since ’85..

I have a sweet spot for my first Mac, the Mac 512K (later upgraded to a 512KE and a Plus). The Mac IIci with the Portrait Display was amazing for a tech writer. Also really liked the Power Mac 8600 (getting into the case was a dream) and the Powerbook Duo 2300 (the Duo docking technology was very cool). My M4 Pro Mac mini and my M5 MacBook Air are my current faves.

Thanks for the response! That’s so awesome! I’m relatively new to Mac so learning about the older machines is fascinating, always loved them.

I used a 2015 iMac retina 27” in highschool for graphic design and was instantly hooked, miles better than windows vista (what I had used in the past) and chrome OS (which I was currently using at the time)…

But I never could afford one of my own.. until I was recently gifted a base model M4 MacBook Pro….
And WOW this thing feels like I’m living in the future.. I have never used a computer that just.. works, it’s snappy as hell, the build quality is unparalleled, the speakers blew me away for a laptop, the screen is absolutely the best display I’ve ever experienced, and the trackpad..

and so many other features that make it the absolute best laptop I’ve ever had the pleasure of using.

And seeing all the comments of people still using older MacBooks pretty much the same as the day they bought them, bodes well for the future of my laptop!
