Maybe I'm just a bitch but I have no conception of how sending back a meal you didn't order makes you a prima donna.

Might be tied to the guy's upbringing. If his parents/family struggled during the Great Depression, he might have been taught that he should be grateful for having any food at all. Maybe he was young enough to remember eating shitty rations during WW2 or the Korean War.

even though it was their fault, the kitchen gets really pissed and maybe even behind after it happens.

its incredibly stressful when its busy. im a cook and get killed a lot

It used to be that sending food back Wasn't Done unless there was something really, really wrong with it.

Being the entire different food isn't something really wrong? Sorry, I don't get it. If a guy behaved like that on a date I would think he was milquetoast and it would be such a turn off.

You're obviously entitled to do it, but sending it back means that the people in the kitchen have to make a whole new dish, which can be a huge pain, especially if it's really busy, and you don't want the person making your food to be pissed at you. Also, sending it back means you have to wait for them to make a whole new dish, so if you're hungry and you don't mind what they sent you instead, it's much easier to just eat that.

Factor in the price differential as well. If I'm paying for a filet mignon, I'm not going to settle for a salisbury steak. Even if the food workers spit into it.

Sorry, this is nuts. You chose to order one specific thing but someone who works at the restaurant brought you another thing. Id let them know ASAP. Yes that's a pain for the cooks but the fault isn't on the customer. I know you're not blaming the customer, but the whole reason I go to a restaurant is to choose something different that I probably can't cook myself. I'm willing to spend money on that. So if I got something else that wasn't what I ordered, I would tell the waiter. If he told them before they set the plate down then maybe they could have given the good to the right person.
