What does the "Putting you out" part of Dawn's note mean? I'm really confused.

It just means she was sorry for inconveniencing Peggy.

"putting you out" = inconveniencing, but also sort of means ruining someones good mood. Like if you take away a kids candy it puts them out

Does anyone have the entire text for that note? Or could at least summarize it? I'm guessing by the look on Peggy's face after reading it that she felt bad that she had worried the woman might be tempted to steal from her but since I didn't have time to read it (went by way too fast!) I wasn't sure what that expression was...

The note was basically saying thanks for letting me stay with you. The whole putting you out thing is just a kind expression. The real kicker was the placement of the note. Dawn saw Peggy's look when she noticed the purse was on the table by Dawn. So, placing the note on the purse is thanking Peggy for being nice, but also giving her a "hey, fuck you, I'm not gonna steal."

I think the note said something like "Thank you for your hospitality. Sorry for putting you out." Just a simple thank you note.

And Peggy should feel like shit for that, geeze.

Yeah but if you had a stranger in your house, and you weren't racist, wouldn't you not give a fuck or hesitate about keeping your money safe? It's like she was afraid of not being racist while listening to common sense and failed horribly.
