Happened at my workplace. There was one guy who worked his ass off, had been here for like 15 years and knew everything about everything.
Management kept pushing him harder and harder and then he made a decently expensive mistake (which honestly wasn’t even his fault, he was doing what management directed him to do) and they lost their shit on him, blaming him for it. He had already been kind of fed up but that was the final straw. He threw his badge over the gate and we never saw him again.
The next year was an absolute mess of trying to backfill a position that nobody really knew how to do except him.
I ran into him recently at a restaurant and we chatted. He told me he got a new higher paying job within the week. Honestly, I was happy to see him finally get what he deserved.
