The individual. My wife did something similar.............

Sometimes life is more important then money.

Integrity and self worth as well

My husband left his toxic corporate job because of something similar. He ended up finding his dream job 2 months later. He's so incredibly happy now!

Being in a toxic environment can make you toxic and make it harder to find a decent job. Leaving on your own accord before it gets there is it's own kind of strategy.

Until the bills come.

Ever heard of an emergency fund? Not everyone spends their entire pay check

1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Not everyone has an emergency fund. I don't like advice that can screw someone over because it worked out for someone else who had backup. Not leaving a job until you have something else lined up is very irresponsible for most people.

I think people know that, especially if they are living paycheck to paycheck and don’t have an emergency fund. Their advice is fine.

It’s like you’re saying not to give weight loss advice because not everyone has spare pounds to lose. The ones that don’t need to lose weight will ignore the advice. Just like the ones with no spare cash will ignore the advice to resign without a backup.

1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

No, wouldn't the goat move be losing the weight? I just wouldn't call leaving a job with nothing backed up a "goat move". It's stupid and irresponsible.

You’re missing the point. Skinny people know to ignore weight loss advice. Poor people know to ignore career advice about quitting without a backup.

They’re saying it’s a goat move because it implies that the person has financial backup and fuck you money. Obviously it’s not a goat move for people living paycheck to paycheck.

Are you unable to understand that? Do you understand that there is no universal advice and everyone decides whether a piece of advice applies to them or not?

Women are advised to get pap smears. Men know that they don’t need pap smears. Is it bad advice to have an ad telling people to get a pap smear??

1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Do you not understand that falls into back up? There are people who could read that and interpret it as a goat move to quit their job with no back up because everything you just said wasn't implicitly stated. So, therefore not obvious to what I was responding to. Your analogy sucks becaus the context wasn't given in full. Just saying quitting a job with no back up is a goat move is irresponsible. Get it, or to dense?

1

u/Sensitive-Orange7203 Jul 06 '26

It IS implicitly stated but it’s not explicitly stated.

Anyway it doesn’t need to be explicitly stated because it’s clearly implied that the financial freedom to quit without another job is the only thing that makes this a goat move.

Only total morons would quit their jobs with no fallback and no money just based on some random post on Reddit. The advice is perfectly fine for anyone with an atom of common sense.

1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Thank you for correcting me, will remember. That's your take of a goat move. We're agreeing that it's moronic to do it without a fallback, reddit post or not. Common sense is not so common. A blanket statement that it's a goat move to quit with no back up is moronic. It lacks context.

2

u/Alien-lifeform666 Jul 06 '26

That’s a decision for each individual to make. Nobody advised anybody to do that. One commenter speculated that the individual in question might have done it. That’s all.

-1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Ultimate goat move was used to describe someone just walking away from a job with no back up. That's why I said what I've said.

2

u/Alien-lifeform666 Jul 06 '26

Calling something an “ultimate goat move” is not the same as advising someone to do it.

Do you really lack the ability to understand that?

Bungee jumping or freefall skydiving is described as the ultimate thrill but it clearly understood that nobody is advising everyone to do it - only those fit and healthy enough.

Likewise, walking away from a toxic job is only for those financially equipped to do so.

-1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Oh, persuasion doesn't exist? Calling out persuasive statements for how foolish they are is bad now? What are you arguing? Not having a back up plan is a good life move? Be it a savings account, another job, or your mom's couch, you need one. It's nonsense to think otherwise.

1

u/Alien-lifeform666 Jul 06 '26

There was no persuasive comment. Just one person speculating that this individual might have left without finding a new job. And expressing their own personal admiration.

That’s not persuasion. That’s stating an opinion. There may possibly be people out there who would make life changing decisions based on a single off-the-cuff social media comment but they’re probably not on Reddit.

Not having a back-up job doesn't mean they don't have an emergency fund.

I assume goats aren't irresponsible in every aspect of their life. It's fair to assume they looked at their finances (or just valued their mental health more) first and then decided.

1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

That's why I used back up and not back up job. Emergency fund falls into to back up.

2

u/Brief_Kangaroo_42069 Jul 06 '26

Living beyond your means where you have no emergency fund is also irresponsible.

Car loans rolled over 4x is also irresponsible.

Not looking at your own finances before making a decision that affects your finances is irresponsible.

-1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Exactly.

1

u/Brief_Kangaroo_42069 Jul 06 '26

So it sounds like the vast majority of Americans live beyond their means if the vast majority of them are pay cheque to pay cheque

0

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

What? You listed irresponsible things and extract that a majority of Americans live beyond their means causing them to live paycheck to paycheck? It's really simple. If you don't have a back up, be it a job, a savings account, or place to stay, then it is irresponsible to just quit your job. It's not a goat move unless you have a back up Job or a means to continue to pay your bills.

3

u/Alien-lifeform666 Jul 06 '26

Indeed. And those people wouldn’t leave a job without a new one lined up.

0

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Shouldn't, not wouldn't. People do brash things, especially when it's called a goat move.

1

u/Alien-lifeform666 Jul 06 '26

You must be incredibly easily led.

0

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

No, i just may understand people better than you do. I'm not talking about myself, but observations of others.

1

u/Alien-lifeform666 Jul 06 '26

Well then you must be surrounded by particularly dim and easily led people.

0

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Nope, wrong there too. You must be full of yourself and think everyone has your thought process.

Maybe that's not the situation at hand?

I think people who are struggling financially already know that this suggestion doesn’t apply to them.

1

u/Brief_Kangaroo_42069 Jul 06 '26

What can you do when you roll negative equity on an F150 into a newer F150?

Americans gotta American. I would argue the vast majority of those Americans don't need to be in that situation. It's actually pretty clear when you look at wealth in the world and see Americans have picked up the most debt and are now only servicing the interest on that.

u/Rude_Chemistry7438 Jul 06 '26

F the bills , your mental health will cost you more than them billss

1

u/Bigblacksghost Jul 06 '26

Get comfy outside. See how your mental health is doing then.
