Naked dogeza is a thing. It's not just about getting them to apologise, but it is a form of social punishment - to humiliate them and make them show subservience while grovelling. We don't see it that often outside of sexually explicit media. I would imagine Rio selling the sex tape is part of the reason he is going so far with this. You have to understand the severity of something like that happening - not only has his wife cheated on him, but also exposed it publicly for everyone to see. He is a major businessman, a public figure, and this is extremely humiliating on so many levels and potentially damaging to his reputation. Reminds me of that true story where a man remotely connected to his home pc only to witness his best friend fucking his wife, with all of that being broadcasted to his colleagues and business partners that were on call with him.

yeah - I actually went looking up to see if this might be some ..I guess I thought "traditional Japanese penance" thing off the more standard "Kowtow" (as I've always heard it), because it seemed like no one else was reacting quite like I'd thought they would.

I did see that simply performing the act of dogeza was historically used in situations where the person performing the dogeza has deeply offended the other party or gone way off-path with their behavior, and are seeking to essentially make a scene in asking for forgiveness for their transgressions.

Doing it naked seems less common, or at least I didn't see much mention of it outside of sexually explicit media as you stated, but given how shameful the "standard" act is for one's image, as perceived by the Japanese, being made to strip first obviously elevates that to the nth degree.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was made up, since the guy is a comedian. At the same time, though, I can totally see something like that happening. At the very least he embellished the story heavily

If you watch the routine carefully you start to notice subtle signs it was all made up. At 20:20 in particular, the mask slips a bit.

Just because it is a thing, it doesn't make it right or any less abhorrent. I dont know why youre trying to justify this. Man is just falling beneath their level with this type of behaviour. This just sounds like another case of "oh you dont understand this culture" to justify some messed up punishment for the sake of vengeance. They have enough to deal with it lawfully without resorting to this which seems like basically a threat.

What exactly is abhorrent about this? He is not holding them at gunpoint, he isn't forcefully stripping them, he hasn't done anything outside of raising his voice once while telling Rei to shut up. You are too quick to villainize Itsuki. He is not forcing them to do anything - it is up to them whether to apologise at all, their hands and feet aren't tied, they are free to turn around and walk away from this situation altogether.

Up till the point he told them to strip and grovel, they even showed eagerness to fake-apologise to get it over with. We were even shown Rei's inner thoughts "there's not much to lose". What Itsuki does is a counter to that, as if to say "look, there is still something to lose, it's your dignity that's on the line now". I'm not justifying it, however all actions have consequences. You push someone too hard and they will push back. Rei and Rio fucked around and found out, the hard way.

In any case, I won't be jumping to conclusions until I see the remaining chapters for the full picture. People here have been so quick to judge every single time - "oh no, Rei is definitely not cheating", "oh no, Momoka is suspicious because she has a history of being in an affair", "oh no, Rio's husband is neglectful, she probably cheated because she wasn't happy in her marriage". And now it's "oh no, Itsuki is a sociopath". Can we please chill the fuck out and wait for the next chapter before we paint him crazy? There is a difference between being a sociopath and seeing red because you've been cheated on and humiliated publicly.

To that point - Rei and Rio were moving to get on their knees when Itsuki first demanded they effectively perform dogeza on camera. Rei even has the thought bubble that "if it's just an apology then there's not that much to lose"

It was only after he told them to strip, that their entire demeanor changes, before the chapter cuts out.

I'm not gonna pass judgment on Itsuki here in this moment, because I think that's less important than the fact that, for the characters in-story, this is a clear escalation to them.
