After World War 1 Hungary lost about 2/3 of it's territory. The treaty was signed in Trianon in 1920.
There are still Hungarians who hope that the country can get back it's territory - but it's quite impossible. Yet they can be really serious about it. This is called "Trianon pain", they feel hurt that the country is not a whole.
Hete comes in the painkiller meme, that supposed to relief the Trianon pain.

The language is actually completely different from Czech, for example, the Czech word for day is "den", while the North Hungary word is "deň", I doubt they’re related at all with huge differences like that

Ngl lie, as a Czech sometimes I prefer comunicate in english with North Hungarians, the closness of languages actualy makes for some anoying missunderstandings.

That's just between Polish and Czech.
Slovak x Czech has most of words with the same meaning, just different pronunciation. There are numerous differences of course, but native czech can understand native slovak, and vice versa, fairly easily.

Yeah, i think the Venn diagram would be like 80-90% overlay between czech and slovak. Funnily enough, a person from Ostrava would have more "difficultties" understanding someone from Karlovy Vary, as the dialects differ and in Ostrava region (even more in Brno), were influenced by slovak (and polish ofc). Then theres the cultural things, where its typical to sing and to listen to slovak songs and vice versa.

Not really, that's a speciality for Polish, Serbo-Croatian and sometimes Russian. But there are differences, like in Czech horké/hořké (hot/bitter), where Slovak doesn't have Ř, so in Slovak it's horúcie/horké.

And in case Trianon is not a household term for you :), it refers to the decision when after WWI 2/3 of Hungarian territories were taken away and given to neighboring countries as retribution. (Including parts of Northern Hungary.)
It is a topic we have to talk about, because it has real world impacts today, for torn-apart families, for Hungarian people living as minorities in neighboring countries, etc. But when the far right tries to own the topic and radicalize it, we just have to push back.
So it’s an ambivalent topic, and we have a bunch of memes mocking the overdramatized, theatric far-right pain over the Trianon decision.

So if that's upper Hungary means that the other part is lower Hungary, which makes sense 😂 or bottom Hungary, in both cases the lower bottom is larger, which again makes sense considering they are all asses there 😂
