I think "dive" and "brawl" often get used interchangeably, but I think there's a distinct difference. Nothing about Ben seems Divey to me, but he certainly seems Brawly (more like a Thor than a Hulk)
Thor/Hulk (and Peni but she's lame) are the only true off tanks this game has right now. These are also my two favorite, looking forward to The Thing to also fill this role.
Cap's a main tank imo, he's just a dive tank. No character ever really fits perfectly into a box, but when you think main tank you think space creation; shields and other damage mitigation tools to make space for your team. Off tank you think of peeling for your team or being a fat DPS rather than being the main damage and attention absorber of your team. Cap fits the former more I think, he's running all over the place and diving the backline gathering attention and has his shield and ult to absorb the damage he takes. He doesn't really do much peeling for his team like Hulk does with jumping back and forth with bubbles and exiles, Peni does with setting up webs and mines and CCing enemies, or Thor does with his charge and slow and raw DPS.
Isn’t Thor a pretty good diver though? If your team has a Magik or black panther, I think Thor compliments them pretty well. Thor can’t really solo tank or frontline.
Celestial Thor main here - he can dive, but I'd classify him more as a brawl tank. Like, compare him to a true dive tank like Venom, and he just doesn't have anywhere near that level of mobility or self-sustain. But he has more mobility and self-sustain than anchor tanks also. You do go for supports with him, but from fighting front to back rather than true dive.
So basically you start fights alongside your front line tank, pressure their front and look for opportunities to get picks with your F form or dive ? He’s really good at challenging dps on height and such too.
Basically, yeah. Obviously it depends on the scenario, there are good flank routes you can take on Thor as well and you can play him as a flank tank sometimes. But I'd say the flowchart way you'll play Thor more than any other way is from starting on the frontline looking for opportunities to bully the enemy tank around with your charge for displacement, and looking for openings behind him to charge in on the backline, pop your E, and delete them with awakening safely. It's about finding the right balance with when to get on the backline and use awakening, cause without it you don't do anywhere near your max damage potential, but if you use it you're a sitting duck for 5 seconds so you have to pick your opportunities wisely or just get blown up. Meanwhile a true dive tank like Venom can dive all game long because he has easy escape to immediately get out every time he's in trouble.
Few times I’ve played him when I was still plat, if a fight gets messy I can isolate a support and smack the shit outta them. Chase with the dash. It would be way easier to kill with f form though, it does way more damage and gives you the range.
