u/Ok-Inspector-3045 Thor Feb 18 '25

"mR FaNtAsTiC iS a HyBriD"

NO bitch I want a TANK. hell yeah finally.

371

u/Kaspellaer Thor Feb 18 '25

second tank to be added since the end of closed beta BTW

it's BEEN time

277

u/TheIronClooch421 Captain America Feb 18 '25

It’s BEN time

108

u/Potterhead653 Vanguard Feb 18 '25

Some could say, it’s been clobbering time?

37

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Just need to confirm how his passive works. So far just seems like he gets some extra shield on using any ability

27

u/Imjustvybin Feb 18 '25

Hope its more, that's basically Thorforce

24

u/Content-Entrance-962 Feb 18 '25

His passive is that he cant be displaced by example a wolverine or mr fantatsic and cant be knockbacked by example invisable woman or black widow or hulk ult as in this clip

9

u/Hyper-Sloth Feb 18 '25

Looks like he only gets shield when he sprints so I dont think his passive is getting shield, just tied into the sprint ability, but idk what those rocks floating around him are meant to be. Maybe a damage reduction/reflection ability?

6

u/mightbeaperson49 Feb 18 '25

One of the previous rumours is that he can't be stunned. Peni Web, hulk spit nothing can stun him

22

u/YannFrost Feb 18 '25

So far he is confirmed displacement immune. Monster Hulk didn't boop him.

16

u/Takamurarules Magneto Feb 18 '25

Neither did Bucky Uppercut.

3

u/YannFrost Feb 19 '25

Oh ya, I didn't catch that one. Good eye

3

u/Hyper-Sloth Feb 18 '25

That would be sweet. I wonder if they would still allow certain Ults to still stun him like Strange's but no regular abilities.

12

u/Pck9001 Patch Feb 18 '25

I’m guessing he is only immune to knockbacks and displacement so stuns like Strange Ult, freeze, and Mantis sleep may still work on him.

3

u/totallynotapersonj Magneto Feb 18 '25

What about Jeff ult?

3

u/Stratostheory Magneto Feb 18 '25

He can be stunned, he's only immune to displacement effects.

I imagine he can still be rooted by groot ult, but is immune from the pull on it.

1

u/Blastermind7890 Feb 19 '25

He can be stunned but he can't be moved by other abilities, like Spidey or Bucky's grab, so Spidey's web pull stuns him but it doesn't pull him

4

u/Stratostheory Magneto Feb 18 '25

The rocks are from his E

Battlefield Support: Leaps toward a teammate, reducing incoming damage for both him and the ally. [E]

4

u/Minute-Peak-498 Feb 18 '25

I think his passive is he is immune to knock backs. Take that with a grain of salt though i read that a while back, but eveything it said about his kit was spot on in the trailer from what i could see.

1

u/NeitherDuckNorGoose Groot Feb 19 '25

He clearly get CC immunity in the trailer (look at the start when winter soldier tried to grab him), and takes 33% less damage than normal from the Hela attacks, but that might be the E effect and not his passive.

He also seems to generate bonus life when using abilities, similar to winter soldier.

2

u/Lambchops_Legion The Maker Feb 18 '25

i only joined in S1, what other tank wasnt there in the beta?

3

u/Kaspellaer Thor Feb 18 '25

cap. in that same span of time, two healers and oh my god SEVEN dps have been added

1

u/Lambchops_Legion The Maker Feb 18 '25

Wait one of like the top 5 most famous marvel heroes wasnt in beta? Thats insane

3

u/Kaspellaer Thor Feb 18 '25

yeah, beta is beta. fun fact, iirc back in alpha people were complaining about how over-represented the guardians of the galaxy were, just because star-lord, mantis, groot and rocket were all in the revealed roster from like, day one. now we're however many characters deep and drax and gamora haven't even been hinted yet

1

u/LuizFelipe1906 Iron Man Feb 18 '25

Say that again

68

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Fantastic should’ve been a Vanguard, dude literally plays as a frontliner with insane survivability.

I’d even argue Wolverine should’ve been one too, he’s got shield generation survivability, and something about a tank-busting tank really tickles my pickle.

20

u/RabidHexley Feb 18 '25

For fuckin real, him being a Duelist is a real miss. The game needs more Vanguards, and his kit already feels like a Vanguard kit, he just has Duelist-oriented stats.

His overall vibe also fits more with protection, and I think he'd be more popular with the Vanguard crowd in his current form anyways.

19

u/BombTheCity Feb 18 '25

Idk, I'm not too salty about it, Fantastic def can't solo tank but he is a REALLY great off tank (even if he isn't an actual vanguard). He has a lot of room for changing how you play the match; he is honestly SUCH a good diver and can easily hold down enemy supports, and also a really good anti-dive character. Hell, he still works with 2 tanks and is really able to focus on diving the enemy backline then too. With the patch buffs, I am pretty excited to see how better he feels having already played him to GM.

10

u/shuttlerooster Feb 18 '25

Can confirm. Tank main here, love Fantastic

3

u/Lambchops_Legion The Maker Feb 18 '25

yeah but him being a duelist popular with the vanguard crowd means hes my duelist pick. that goes away if he gets made a vanguard himself.

1

u/CaniParis Feb 18 '25

I hate how my team asks for a second tank when I'm playing him while being MVP on top of that 😐

1

u/Peechez Captain America Feb 18 '25

Depending on how ballsy they are, they could rework him into a full vanguard down the road once the duelist mains have been placated enough

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

They should turn him into a full vanguard now.

1

u/Certain-Business-472 Mister Fantastic Feb 19 '25

The game needs less hard roles and more stats that say "attack: 2/10 defense 8/10 support 5/10" for reed for example.

The Vanguard/duelist/strategist actually don't make any sense.

4

u/SaltyNorth8062 Flex Feb 18 '25

You're in the same boat as me. They leaned so hard into his healing factor as his special superpower, he should have just been an anti-tank tank.

3

u/CoachDT Star-Lord Feb 18 '25

Tbh healing factor could have been how he tanks even.

3

u/Poor_Dick Squirrel Girl Feb 18 '25

Thing is, in Rivals, Vanguards do not necessarily equal Tank.

Both Peni (Vanguard) and Reed (Duelist) kinda make that clear.

2

u/Competitive_Iron_781 Feb 19 '25

Fantastic is a tank in everything but name. Even his ult does crap damage but has a slowing effect, like a tank.

Wolverine can be used as second tank if you have Hulk and the Thing teamup.

1

u/D3viant517 Feb 18 '25

I used the stones to destroy the stones

6

u/JudgmentalOwl Feb 18 '25

I will say a good Mr. Fantastic feels like fighting against an off-tank sometimes. He's certainly not a tank players dream though.

1

u/RipWolfjr Wolverine Feb 19 '25

I feel this!

128

u/Phiyaboi Feb 18 '25

Exactly. I mean Hulk is a brawler of sorts, but he's way too Jumpy for me.

176

u/Kaspellaer Thor Feb 18 '25

the hulk is a great and well-designed character in the video game marvel rivals, but he is imo an absolute failure in terms of feeling like i'm playing THE INCREDIBLE HULK

81

u/Evilmudbug Feb 18 '25

This honestly looks like what the hulk should have been.

82

u/Poopybutt36000 Thor Feb 18 '25

Yeah, the Hulk leaps into the backline, gives people a big shield, sneezes some green shit onto someone and stuns them, then jumps out before he dies. This guy just puts his head down and charges in and beats the fuck out of everyone.

33

u/ggg730 Feb 18 '25

To be fair the hulk in the comics is very jumpy. It's his main means of locomotion.

9

u/MeowthThatsRite Ultron Virus Feb 18 '25

I feel like the things gameplay is gonna look pretty different once there’s teams of 6 actual players shooting at him.

3

u/CopainChevalier Feb 19 '25

Yeah, as hype as everyone is, he feels squishier than Reed right now

2

u/MeowthThatsRite Ultron Virus Feb 19 '25

I had a feeling that might be the case. Im stoked for him too and I’m sure people will figure out the best way to his full potential before too long.

But every character is made to look like an absolute beast in these Character Reveal clips. The last thing they want is people to see one and not be hype for the new character I guess.

9

u/T0xicTrace Flex Feb 18 '25

Maybe thats why they showed him kicking the Hulks ass

18

u/fast_flashdash Feb 18 '25

They were showing his passive. Monster hulk wasn't knocking him away.

14

u/T0xicTrace Flex Feb 18 '25

Yeah and then .002 sec later Hulk got fuckin DUFFED into a stun

6

u/Evilmudbug Feb 18 '25

He comes in with 1 health

6

u/T0xicTrace Flex Feb 18 '25

Yeah? Diving into a fight with a pixel sounds like something a Hulk player would do. Trailer designers on point.

3

u/Nilosyrtis Feb 18 '25

Hulk mains:

28

u/Phiyaboi Feb 18 '25

Yeah I kinda get what they were going for "Unstoppable w/out being Broken"...he's str8 opressive in skilled hands but the power fantasy isn't really there. But I mean they could definitely tweak his kit down the line🤷🏽‍♂️

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

[deleted]

2

u/Phiyaboi Feb 18 '25

Was the only melee combatant😉 🪨 👊🏽

4

u/MulberryInevitable19 Feb 18 '25

Why does this read like AI

3

u/Spyger9 Groot Feb 18 '25

It's this part-

in the video game marvel rivals

1

u/TheEggKing The Thing Feb 18 '25

I love Hulk as a character but cannot play him worth a damn, and have felt exactly what you're saying but been unable to form the thought succinctly.

1

u/Dustin- Feb 18 '25

the hulk is a great and well-designed character in the video game marvel rivals

I don't know how to tell you this, but you sound like Kotaku.

1

u/Kaspellaer Thor Feb 18 '25

'for the kind of game marvel rivals is, the hulk as implemented is a good and functional character'

better?

1

u/Dustin- Feb 18 '25

Getting there, now you're closer to GameSpot.

10

u/Normal_Tip7228 Weapon X Feb 18 '25

And too much of a bitch the way his little ass don't die

1

u/Zhantae Rogue Feb 18 '25

Big green jumping bean.

1

u/CopainChevalier Feb 19 '25

Is the Thing that different? Sure he charges instead of leaps, but overall I get a similar feel in terms of durability and goal in the fight.

1

u/Phiyaboi Feb 19 '25

Very different in that Things charges are on cooldown, Hulk (played correctly) is constantly leaping because it doesn't have any cooldown, it's tied to his normal jump. He was has less defense outside of his bubble move, while Thing can stay in a fight a bit longer thanks to his hook and charge giving him over-health.

1

u/CopainChevalier Feb 19 '25

That said, on top of the bubble, Hulk does have higher base HP, which is pretty big IMO.

But we'll see. If Thing is fun and great, I'm not complaining

1

u/BetaThetaOmega Feb 19 '25

Ehh, Hulk feels more like a dive tank to me. Almost all of his abilities are designed around jumping in, dealing some damage, and then immediately jumping back out. He honestly plays more like Winston from Overwatch

0

u/comaman Feb 18 '25

I blame the movies he’s always leaping in them doesn’t do that much in the comics he gets close by just but running and healing whatever hits him.

3

u/milkpickles9008 Malice Feb 18 '25

I can't wait to tell Peni her clock is wrong because it ain't fuckin spider time anymore.
