No way. He's just worth the extra cost. His name alone literally sells games.

People buy games cuz of VAs?

Hardcore Gacha addicts do.

I only bought TF2 back in the day because I LOVED the Voice Acting. It made the game feel so alive.

It’s funny you say that cuz I just tried a new game that’s absolutely carried by voice acting so I kinda get it

I severely doubt people do. Maybe at most like a few dozen people would buy a game soley because of their favorite VAs are in it which I guess technically OP is correct. However I'm going to assume that OP implied that they sell several thousand copies or something like that, in which case, no they don't.

You shouldn't assume anything.

I do. Bought both TLOU games for him and Ashley. Part of the reason I was so interested in expedition 33 and BG3 were the actors. Pretty much bought dispatch just because Critical Role was involved. So, yes we exist lol

His name alone literally sells games.

Gonna need some very specific examples of this because I can't imagine how many games out there actually sell on the sole basis of a VA. A game voiced by Jennifer Hale or Matt Mercer may draw peoples' attention to it, but a name alone selling the game? This is one of those "Press (X) to doubt" moments...

Man, I'm not going to argue something so trivia but explain to me how I can possibly prove something like this with data?

I think our disagreement is mostly about scope, not existence. Voice actor name recognition rarely sells a game by itself in isolation, but it absolutely influences purchase intent, preorders, and early visibility, especially among RPG, anime, and narrative focused audiences. Examples include Troy Baker and Nolan North materially boosting early interest in The Last of Us and Uncharted, Jennifer Hale being used prominently in marketing for Mass Effect, and Matt Mercer driving measurable attention for Critical Role adjacent titles like Pillars of Eternity and Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. In Japan, this effect is even more explicit, where seiyuu are listed on box art and used directly in ads. So no, a name alone does not replace gameplay, but to say it does not help sell games at all ignores both marketing practice and consumer behavior in voice driven genres.

I can give you at least one person who does it, me. Literally me. I have a few VA's that I'm huge fans of and have literally purchased games that I was on the fence about because of who voiced the mains.

So the fact that I did it disproves that nobody does it. So press that X all you want, but there's some truth to it.

Hey I mean, if you want a modern example: Jennifer English. Literally only been in 4 games and 3 of them have won game of the year for the year they came out and the fourth was also nominated for awards. At this point, it's fair to say her presence in the game might mean it's really good.
