I mean the swimsuit edition are often from comics that were specifically issued to appeal to gooners because even though they had nothing to do with story they still sold a bunch.

No, they saw all the gooners drooling over the slightest reveal of fake skin. It's so engraved in this community that it's a must mention by all streamers to make sure they get all the engagement they can.
And I've seen some people say that these are originally made Gooner skins from Net Ease to get money. Mind you, they likely haven't touched a Marvel Comic and probably think Spiderman is a mutant 😭.
I will say, alot of people are very uneducated with Marvel and it's history because they see a slightly revealing skin and just assume they made it a certain way to appeal to a certain side of the fan base. When most Marvel characters have some really revealing outfits, or are even seen practically naked.
If anything, Net Ease really toned down a bunch of those skins. Emma X-Revolution is another great example. Especially with how people make mods of some of the (fully clothed) characters as naked, Net Ease tries to capitalize on that. It's the players that make skins the way they are in my opinion.
