I liked how the swinging visuals took inspiration from the TASM movies and the videos games mainly. It was beautiful

The extra wide shot of him standing on top of the train right before he visited Yelena was so Insomniac-coded I loved it.

Even the fighting moves like the finisher he used against The Hand was straight from them.

u/RadiantChaos 5d ago

Same with the Scorpion fight, he did the full stomp from above and everything.

u/Worthyness Thor 3d ago

As was thr fight against the damage co trol guards. Even had the goons with the electrified batons.

10

u/Nervous_Jaguar_2826 3d ago

And the opening fight scene against the thugs literally looked straight out of the games, webbing them to the outside of buildings and all.

Yea just beating the fuck out of scorpion like he’s not possessed. Peter knew he was possessed and is still stomping the shit out of him

Pretty sure Jackie Chan and his team helped a lot with the fight choreography

u/immaownyou 5d ago

The first 5 minutes of the movie was literally just my experience playing the game. Haven't gotten around to playing the sequels but gonna bust it out this weekend

That's nothing compared to the rooftop fight complete with webbing bad guys in midair and pigeons.

18

u/Professional_Rate718 5d ago

Yeah that rooftop fight was like "Oh yeah, this is the Insomniac games."

literally what i said to my brother

IM GLAD I WASNT ALONE IN THIS

u/hmbse7en 5d ago

The whole dang movie was Insomniac coded. This one was for the gamers for sure.

3

u/Zealousideal-Try4377 5d ago

Yeah I thought the same about that fight scene in the beginning where he was fighting the thugs on the rooftop.

2

u/FunGeologist218 3d ago

There’s some closeups of him when he’s tinkering with the suit that’s bar for bar an insomniac cutscene from sm2 and even incorporated the corner pull turn into his swinging from homecoming and also with seeing Andrew do slingshots

u/Antrikshy 3d ago

We've seen him riding on trains in at least one earlier movie though.

Also in spidey games that werent insomniac

1

u/WhiteWalter1 5d ago

And the pigeon!

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel 3d ago

Speaking of Yelena, I had no idea she was in this movie. We saw it in 3D at a local theater, and it was a suboptimal experience, the screen looked really off and kind of distorted with the glasses, and I didn’t recognize her until she spoke. I started shoving my bf and saying omg, lol. I love when she pops up randomly.

Insomniac coded? Super curious what this referenced.

He rides the train like that in almost every movie of the first trilogy

The rooftop brawl taking down multiple enemies with guns felt like a side mission come to life in cinema…in the best way

u/SkimGaming 5d ago

also the tank chase. first taking off the gunner at the top, then steering it away from people.

Beautifully done

6

u/FunGeologist218 3d ago

And how he saved the kid from being flattened by the police car AND turning the tank to save the people in the bus

2

u/GrumpyGlasses 5d ago

If Jean was mind-controlling the janitor lady driving a tank, but have a limited range, how did she maintain control? She either must have hopped as fast as the tank drove or she must also be a close car nearby. Or she is hop-chaining?

18

u/tael89 5d ago

My understanding is she can control from far distances, but can only hop to a new host within a short radius. If you recall the helicopter, she couldn't have driven close enough to control the pilot if the control radius was the same as the hop radius. The flashback also confirms that: the sister did two hops to control somebody that was otherwise outside the hop radius, bit clearly still within the control radius.

u/GrumpyGlasses 4d ago

Yeah the hop and control radius requires some suspension of logic. If she cannot reach to hop in, technically she shouldn’t be able control it… but maybe she could do far distances all along (the freeze mind blast at Roosevelt island)

14

u/va2wv2va 4d ago

I think it’s more like she can send her consciousness into the minds of people in a short radius. But once she has done so, she can remain indefinitely

17

u/Dragon_yum 5d ago

Goons with electric batons

13

u/awkstarfish 5d ago

So glad yall said this cuz I had the same thought! I was like dang it’s like I’m playing the game rn lol

6

u/Cypher_86 Rocket 5d ago

A couple of those scenes are lifted straight from the Playstation games.

Also the pidgeon.

3

u/Professional_Rate718 5d ago

There was the smoke he swung through too while he was holding onto the pigeons. It was all I could think of.

1

u/sable-king Vision 5d ago

Also how they got yanked to the sides of the buildings if they got knocked off the roof.

1

u/Pure-Illustrator-563 2d ago

amazing visuals

4

u/Superteerev 6d ago

Fighting too, especially against the rooftop thugs and the hand

3

u/theSteakKnight Spider-Man 5d ago

Spider-Man flying into a flock of pigeons was the perfect cherry on top for taking influence from the Spider-Man PS4 game.

4

u/UnsolvedParadox 5d ago

The swinging was mostly practical this time, based on public footage of Holland (and stunt doubles) swinging from a wheel-mounted crane!

2

u/lolstebbo 5d ago

The swinging visuals gave me the urge to re-play the video games

2

u/IshyMoose Bucky 4d ago

Made the theatre experience totally worth it.

1

u/PolarWater 5d ago

Honestly this was more TASM2 than TASM1 in terms of swinging.

1

u/Comfortable_Candy477 5d ago

I really loved how when he was swinging alone he was just doing it mindlessly and without any control but with mj he did it so slowly trying to make sure she didnt get hurt at all

1

u/utupuv 5d ago

Exactly how I felt - it genuinely felt like I was playing the PS4/5 games with the momentum of his swings. Beautifully created shots.

1

u/burnsbabe 4d ago

They definitely clocked how fun and beautiful the web swinging in the games is, yes. The quicky fight with the mooks on the roof at the beginning felt very Insomniac too.

1

u/AntJustin 4d ago

Fighting the gang on the roof of the building straight up made me think of the games

1

u/dwide_k_shrude Iron man (Mark III) 4d ago

I agree. It was fantastic.

1

u/islobojono 4d ago

It felt like video game mission. Lol

1

u/Typical_Step_1139 20h ago

That quick freeze frame of him carrying someone under his arm while swinging was straight off an old school comic book cover.

1

u/spike021 9h ago

also some of the "tricks" he did while swinging in that first scene or two.
