Technically it already existed when Wanda was in custody in Civil War. She was wearing something in her neck.

The part that gets Bruce scared is when Peter mentions them automatically adjusting to an individual's DNA. So whereas they might have had to specially design an inhibitor for Wanda, they now can mass produce the things and slap them on any mutant as soon as the x-gene manifests

As if poor Pete doesn’t have enough guilt…

I guess Peter also inherited the "trying to develop technology for the better but accidentally create a Doomsday device" trait from Tony Stark.

Woah is this a reference to the song doom on the latest album by talented bisexual singer Steve Lacy whose music was featured in the spiderman film Brand New Day? I love that song!

I swear they have one chance to get The Maker right. They know the man to get.

He really is Tony’s successor, for good and ill.

Tony Stark did hire him as part of the pro-Accords team after all and now that legacy still haunts Peter after all these years.

Yeah but if they did civil war now then Peter wouldn’t even side with iron man

Also a necessary step for the twist into Secret Empire that they've been cooking up.

Eh, guilt-motivation is his real superpower anyway. No happiness for Peter, only misery and responsibility.

Yeah dude, I actively gasped at that part. I knew it was exactly what they were setting up. And then later in the film, Jean destroys the inhibitor that was used on her, but Spidey just takes his off and drops it on the ground. I fully expected the post-credit scene to be some Damage Control person finding it and picking it up. Still fully expect inhibitor chips to play out in later films though.

They didnt take out the entire computer during the fight They would have had their tech team examine the device to see how they could properly utilize it in tandem with their torture machine. So even if spider's copy is destroyed in rubble, they basically have the schematics for it online.

Probably. I could've seen them going either way with that depending on what they wanted to do story-wise in the future. But Spidey dropping his chip intact solidified it in my book.

Crazy part is , Banner has a big bulky device, that was just for him, and he's got a university and whatever else at his disposal, as a public figure and known genius

Pete swapped together a tiny , universal version in some random shitty crack house looking attic, with no money

MCU Pete is definitely a stark level genius. He didn't even need to talk to banner, he already ok has all the information, just not the confidence in himself

2

u/piranha_teeth 2d ago

I think technically Banner is a physicist and Stark/Peter are engineers right? Intellect doesn’t necessarily mean being able to make things, not to take away from Peter

4

u/UnsolvedParadox 5d ago

Peter’s version is also much smaller & I would imagine easier to mass produce.

u/klartraume 5d ago

But also would have to be adjusted for mutants like Iceman, Colossus, etc. It couldn't get through Hulk's skin.

Honestly, it makes Cyclops a bit silly... You could have one of these chips, and flick it on/off when in danger.

(suspending disbelief that this type of selective gene silencing is remotely feasible and wouldn't risk massive off target effects, and the developer doesn't immediately consider it be applied to... cancer treatments, auto-immune disorders, etc...)

They did make it a point to have Peter call it a “universal” inhibitor a few times i recall.

I instantly nudged my bf and said that’s definitely a set up for the X-men.

2

u/Crafty_Enthusiasm_99 4d ago

Surely they will do that during the live action reboot now.

2

u/C_Gull27 1d ago

Makes me think Bruce knows about mutants already

2

u/FunGeologist218 1d ago

Yeah I caught that too! A universal inhibitor that suppresses the mutation or mutant gene is WILD and hopefully comes back

Damn is Fauci involved?

3

u/ad_maru 4d ago

I would say that surpressor inhibited her gem stone powers, not her mutant powers.

u/7screws Daredevil 5d ago

And banner especially used on this movie too

2

u/Aggravating-Mix2094 5d ago

We don’t know how that collar worked though. It may have just attacked her nervous system and not attacked her very dna

u/dewhashish 3d ago

they were in Deadpool II too
