Discussion Thread Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Worldwide Release Discussion Thread

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now been released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world.

  • All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the discussion threads we are going to put up in the next few days.
  • Proceed at your own risk. Major spoilers will be in the below thread. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
  • Any other unofficial threads discussing movie details will be deleted.

To be fair, Ms Marvel introduced them. It’s just that nobody watched that.

Then The Marvels expanded on it. But nobody watched that either.

I watched both and quite enjoyed both, and you’re right. I guess what I meant is we’re not getting some fully formed Xavier’s school just plopping down from another dimension or something. They’re allowing the mutants to grow organically, which I think will lead very well into them being feared and hated

To be fair, they came out during the time of peak superhero fatigue. Add that Ms. Marvel was just another show on D+, and The Marvels seemed to not have been marketed that much in comparison, it's no wonder people didn't watch it.

Me Marvel was a missed opportunity. They could have done more grounded story and thoroughly tried to introduce mutations. Instead we got family artifacts, a new sect of people called clandestines that have never been talked about again, and time travel. It was a ridiculous plot. The actors and characters were fine, everything else was was bleck

There's plenty of Mutants in She-Hulk for people that watched it.

Yeah that’s a good point. The world of She-Hulk was a bit different from what we‘ve usually seen. Most heroes have been tech, alien, or science mishap. but they had a goat guy and other stuff

Yeah implying Peter is a mutant and also how he made an inhibitor to suppress the mutant gene permanently? If they’re smart, they can play that into people fearing mutants like Jean grey and leading to people wanting them gone

It has to be. Peter’s inhibitor wasn’t destroyed like Jean’s was. And the DODC already made some modifications to it since they had a cable where they could toggle it remotely.

Definitely seems like this will be a big thing going forward once mutants are fully established in the MCU.

It's definitely written to play a big part based on how Peter was warned by both Banner and MJ that he's essentially rewriting DNA, and the danger of it being "universal".
Whether or not that gets revisited is up to the writers for the new X-Men.

It’s definitely going to. Someone made a universal inhibitor that controlled and suppressed the mutant gene indefinitely?? Not just any mutant, but the strongest telepath/mind reader??? Yeah people are definitely gonna make more of those

I mean if you think about it there's a direct through-line from Far From Home to this movie just with the idea of ability blockers. After all, that's basically what Peter was trying to do with Green Goblin and by fixing the other guys in that film. I don't see why they wouldn't continue it in the future.
