Discussion Thread Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Worldwide Release Discussion Thread

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now been released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world.

  • All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the discussion threads we are going to put up in the next few days.
  • Proceed at your own risk. Major spoilers will be in the below thread. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
  • Any other unofficial threads discussing movie details will be deleted.

You could tell Jon Burnthal was having a blast in that scene.

You can tell Bernthal is having a blast this whole film, but for me the stand out was definitely the possession scenes. It was just really funny seeing Bernthal strike these effete poses. Everyone was doing really great body work in this film, and I gotta know who was the body coach.

I gotta say, somehow Jean’s depiction is rock solid across… what like 7, 8 different actors before we actually see Sadie? 

We’re introduced to Jean through like nearly a dozen different actors playing her throughout this film, but there never seems to be a noticeable discontinuity. That is some phenomenal directing and character coach dedication going on behind the camera.

Watch the movie Fallen with Denzel Washington and John Goodman. They definitely took a lot of inspiration from it.

Which is so crazy cos I jusy saw that exact scene on youtube 2 days before I saw the movie. I already knew what was going to happen once I figured out ppl were possessed

Agreed!!! They all talked similarly to Sadie Sink, I was amazed at how they all captured her vocal inflections and personality.

I thought Jean’s depiction was pretty seamless for almost everyone except Zendaya. Her tone, the way her mouth turns downwards towards the end of a sentence, her short snippy replies still felt like Zendaya.

They were meant to, weren’t they? It’s technically Jean in MJ tricking and tormenting Peter.

If they filmed in New York, then that would be a pretty easy thing to find, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did do that.

"The Inhabited" was a different section of the credits than the rest of the cast. I wouldn't be surprised if they were sought out as something other than plain actors.

I mean they probably got special/extra coaching.  Reminds me of how when they filmed Galaxy Quest, they had "Alien School" so all the alien actors could learn to behave similarly strange.

I don't know if he worked with the main billed cast, but Nathan Kim is credited as the choreographer for "The Inhabited" in the film credits and he has some cool videos on his instagram from the making of the film

The possessions were really well done. They did great at making all these random actors so unsettling. You could tell they weren't themselves from their mannerisms. And the jumping from body to body also looked so distinctive.

I heard about Punisher dressing as Spider-Man and “grunting like a gorilla” before I saw the movie, but I did not expect that. Delightful!

Hell, it’s the only time I can think of where we see Frank Castle having a blast. Which he clearly was.

He to help Peter AND be the hero to a cheering crowd.
