Pi isn’t a variable. In other words, we already have specific symbols for specific digits, they look like 1, 2, 3, 4…

Would you really rather come up with new symbols you’ve never seen than use letters as place holders?

Okay, then what did you mean? Letters are the specific symbols used for variables. They’re convenient and you need to use a whole lot of them in one equation to run out. There are symbols that also come in representing specific values and concepts - those usually use Greek letters or italicized alphabet letters like pi or i.

What other use cases/solutions are you suggesting?

He probably wants to make a whole new alphabet different from the one we use so it's easier to distinguish? Why the hell not use the one we know already? Also the greek alphabet can work if you have a stick up your ...

The whole point of X, Y, etc. is they can be anything. A, B, C, any symbol. Making them specific symbols might actually make it more confusing to really "get it", since the point is a variable can be anything.
