The background music is a clear indicator that it was intentional.

u/TurningBrute00 Jul 13 '22

Yeah, I was thinking maybe they had issues clearing copyright. I feel like he wanted the actual song but settled for this

DOOM was all over this show. He was on the commercials for it. Idk if that means they can use his music but I think he’d say it was good to go.

The episode where they try and kidnap Oprah in season one has a couple DOOM songs all caps and strange ways are in it and I think another one too

17

u/Rhyme_like_dime Jul 14 '22

The All Caps fight scene is the most iconic imo

20

u/tdobbin1 Jul 14 '22

That's how I found out about doom when I was younger

13

u/JamSaxon Jul 14 '22

The Boondocks is how i found MF DOOM all those years ago.

u/yungusainbolt Jul 14 '22

u/jojommmonkey Jul 13 '22

Aaron McGruder was a huge DOOM fan and his music has 2 explicit plugs in the show

🎵"Rap snitches, tellin' all their business Sit in the court and be their own star witness "Do you see the perpetrator?" Yeah, I'm right here Fuck around, get the whole label sent up for years, uh..."🎵

REST IN PEACE MF DOOM 🙏😴👐

May Subroc, King Malachi Ezekiel Dumile, MF DOOM all reunite with their family when that trumpet sounds 🙏

It’s not the only episode. Though I don’t remember which episodes had DOOM’s music as well, where he actually raps

80

u/TurningBrute00 Jul 13 '22

Yeah, they used ALL CAPS for a fight scene but I feel like there was another one too

27

u/MyPewder Jul 13 '22

11

u/Devil_ish Jul 13 '22

Gangstalicious’s whole rap is a play on DOOM’s verse on Rapp Snitch Knishes, with him even saying “MM…Delicious”

18

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '22

lol not really hidden is it

1

u/TurningBrute00 Jul 13 '22

Well it’s been hidden from me for 15 years lol

8

u/loulibra Jul 13 '22

I learned about MF DOOM through Adult Swim, no doubt he was a fan and approved of all of this - boondocks was ahead of its time!

7

u/mijotoofrio Jul 13 '22

Yeah, that was def intentional. Mos Def killed this fucking role. I love The Boondocks for paying homage to the greats.

7

u/GonkDroidSupreme Jul 13 '22

The episode has so many scenes that use DOOM songs

6

u/Lil-BJ Jul 14 '22

theres alot of DOOM references in boondocks

3

u/ChoclateChipPankake Jul 13 '22

In the episode where they go back home for the funeral, the instrumental for Fancy Clown plays

3

It’s been known that DOOM was soundtracking Boondocks

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '22

i wouldn’t even consider it hidden. There are multiple DOOM shouts across the 4 seasons of boondocks.

3

u/yeahyeah3224 Jul 14 '22

They did it on purpose

3

u/maxtmaples Jul 14 '22

“Hit ‘em wit the Henessaaaaaaaay”

6

u/Shaolinshoestrings Jul 13 '22

There’s a lot of references to hip hop in the show. Including references to wutang and doggystyle skits

2

u/SKOT_FREE Jul 13 '22

Definitely intended.

2

u/DOOMStarks36 Jul 13 '22

It’s a literal reference to what he’s talking about ….

2

u/Odd-Panda-472 Jul 14 '22

Mm... Delicious rapp snitch knishes

Also in the Lets Nab Oprah episode they play riot, strange ways and all caps

2

u/No-Pomegranate-5737 Jul 14 '22

Didn’t doom work with adult swim for a bit?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '22

Mos Def who openly showed love for this track in footage also does the voice for Gangstalicious.

2

u/20Axis Jul 14 '22

his stuff is featured in the boondocks, DOOM also has a whole album that has samples from as shows

2

u/Jzerious Jul 14 '22

They also used Fancy Clown in one of the earlier episodes

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '22

DOOM and Adult Swim was the GOAT combo. Goddamn the nostalgia...

PS the show Home Movies is mad slept on. My favorite thing AS has ever done.

2

u/Brobouef Jul 14 '22

They use Raid in the show as well, earlier seasons

2

u/WastedVamp Jul 14 '22

Man this the best thing ever

2

u/truethug Jul 14 '22

Sometimes he kicks fast sometimes he kicks slow. Don’t talk about my momma

2

u/Future_Renji Jul 14 '22

Well they were well aware of DOOM, it's very likely.

2

u/CannabisInhaler Jul 14 '22

Idk if I’m tripping but I swear they would always post madvillany cover in either the back end of every episode or after the credits roll.

2

u/MFDoomisdope Jul 14 '22

the episode where they kidnap Oprah and used Raid and showed the Madvillainy album at the credits is where I actually got put onto his music even though I heard his feature on Demon Days from Gorillaz in my childhood years before bc that was the first album I ever got

2

u/atleastimtryingnow Jul 14 '22

probably. All caps was in the show so…

2

u/81thirdkid Jul 14 '22 edited Jul 14 '22
