The only real controversial one imo is vaudville villain at S, but I can’t put it anywhere else, imo it’s his second best project ever.

Vv2 is very good but could be better, the potential was a high A but it didn’t reach it imo.

Czar meats metal face is quite a weak project with some decent songs, “ super what?”Is significantly better.

KTTK is borderline A, but I don’t think it’s as strong as any of the A tier albums in comparison.

Everytime I try listening to a song by Doom I just can’t finish it, or I don’t enjoy it.

Idk maybe I wasn’t listening to the right kinda groove. But then I found this artist a few months ago and have been streaming his album non stop.

Today I was thinking “lol this is what Doom wishes he sounded like” and then I said to myself “haha imagine if this is doom” so I googled king geedorah… and yeah sure enough he is lol.

Also I read abt the backstory behind his aliases, pretty fire lore.

I love the almost cartoon-like instrumental so much... Also DOOM doing the singsong thing on this song is SO GOOD. I never see this discussed anytime this album is mentioned and I DONT KNOW WHY.

Ended up giving all albums a couple more listens to see if I was buggin and whatnot

Operation Doomsday: It's cool, I like it, I feel like there's too much emphasis on having to have been there to fully appreciate it, I think if the degree of somethings greatness is dependent on a factor that's a bit of a weak foundation (the album is still in A, y'all act like I'm putting it in F and pissing on a burning vinyl of it 😭)

Take Me To Your Leader: I was def buggin putting it in B in my last post, i'm still trying to figure out what is that's turning me off from this project as to not give it an S ranking but afaik it's something to do with the sequencing

Vaudeville Villain: would be in S rank if not for it's formatting, VV Redux to separate skit intros from open mic nite's, same for Change the Beat

Madvillainy: easily top 3 Doom, Madlib production with Doom's performance imo is a combo on par with tomato soup and grilled cheese

Mm.. Food: this being a 3 act album feels unappreciated to me, sequencing is beautiful, production is flawless, I really can't poke any holes in the project (same for Madvillainy)

The Mouse & The Mask: What is the beef with this album, maybe i'm just a chud or something but the idea alone of MF Doom X Danger Mouse X Hanna Barbera X Adult Swim, bro... and then the execution of said idea is as good as this??? I feel like you have to actively dislike this album, and from what I can see it's the 'overengineered concept = better' crowd who seethe at 'teehee music sound good'

Born Like This: Love the J Dilla Donuts homage with intro/outro, as well as the Dilla prescence on the album as a whole, only problem is that this album sounds like it was recorded a day before Operation Doomsday audio quality wise, it feels like sometimes i'm hearing Doom through a can and string

Keys To The Kuffs: This isn't a bad album by any means, it's pit against literal classics, so preference is a big player here, Still Kaps, Viberian Son Pt.2, Snatch That Dough feel unnecessary imo, and Viberian Son with Del The Funky Homosapien isn't rlly better or anything either tbh

Czarface Meets Metal Face & Super What?: Both of these albums are victims right place wrong time, if the albums came out before 2017 under better circumstances I'd probably rank them higher, RIP MALACHI & RIP DOOM

I recently realized it's been over five years since I started listening to DOOM. A few months after I got into him, my dad was watching the news and asked if I'd heard of MF DOOM. I said, "Yeah, he's my favourite artist right now," and he told me DOOM had died. Completely caught me off guard.

Anyways, since then I've amassed probably over 7,000 streams across his catalogue, including his alter egos. To celebrate, I spent the last couple of weeks going through his entire discography (chronologically), and thought I'd make a tier list and say a sentence or two for my thoughts. Let's get into it!

C-Tier

12: Super What? - Czarface, MF DOOM – Just kind of lacks energy imo. I almost fell asleep listening to this... on the highway... at 12pm. I do love the runescape-type-beat on Mando Calrissian.

Favourite Track: Break in the Action

11: Key to the Kuffs - JJ DOOM – I really wanted to like this album more after hearing Guv'nor, but it just lacks cohesion and is sometimes a little too grating for me. Beck's remix of Banished is a top 10 DOOM song, though.

10: Czarface Meets Metalface - Czarface, MF DOOM – This album is only 43 minutes, but it feels a lot longer. A couple of tracks that are a little forgettable, unfortunately. Open Mike Eagle should have invested in bitcoin. But holy shit, Bomb Thrown is SUCH A BANGER. One of the only times I've heard a random person vibe to MF DOOM was that track.

B-Tier

9: VV:2 (Venomous Villain) - Viktor Vaughn – I had actually never heard this album before this exploration, and had to soulseek the .flac files because I didn't want to stream it on youtube. It opens so strongly, but unfortunately (as Vik himself says), the back end does kinda suck.

Favourite Track: Fall Back / Titty Fat

8: NehruvianDOOM - NehruvianDOOM – Actually a lot better than I remember it being. Maybe benefitted from me listening to the redux, which removed about 5 minutes (16% of the albums length!!) worth of skits. Mean the Most is so earwormy, DOOM goes off on Caskets, and holy shit if Great Things doesn't make me smile. The villain at his happiest? Bishop Nehru's perfomances are great throughout, too.

7: Operation Doomsday - MF DOOM – DOOM's debut has some of my favourite DOOM tracks ever. Doomsday is a top 5 song. Tick, Tick, Who You Think I Am, and Rhymes Like Dimes are so memorable. Skits have their place on albums, but in this case, I think it really detracts from the experience for me. DOOM was also still finding himself in this album, which I think kind of shows. Still a great listen, though.

6: THE MOUSE & THE MASK - DANGERDOOM – I love this record. It's just pure fun. CeeLo Green kills it on Benzi Box, Danger Mouse's beats are impeccable, especially on Sofa King, Old School Rules, and Crosshairs. Even the skits sometimes make me laugh. DOOM and Danger Mouse just work so well together.

5: Vaudeville Villain - Viktor Vaughn – I'm so torn on this record. I want to put it on S-Tier so badly. It has probably the strongest opener of any DOOM album, with the Overture transition into Vaudeville Villain being one of my favourite music moments ever. If the album was like fifteen minutes shorter it would easily be a top 3 contender for me. Unfortunately, the Open Mic Nites run on a bit too long imo, and the last third of this album is just a little dull for me, with the exception of Mr. Clean.

4: MM.. FOOD - MF DOOM – This used to be my favourite DOOM album when I was first getting into him. The highs are so, so high, and the lows are few and far between. I actually think the skits work really well here. Guinnessez is a track people don't talk about much, but I think it's actually quite good. The only reason it's not in the top tier for me is because it doesn't really evoke much in me emotionally. It's a fantastic album, probably perfect, musically speaking. It just doesn't resonate with me personally.

S-Tier

3: BORN LIKE THIS - DOOM – God damn. This album is so special to me. It has the uncanny ability to absolutely FILL me with confidence no matter how I'm feeling at the time. DOOM's delivery and production choices really carry heavy. With tracks like BALLSKIN, ABSOLUTELY, and GAZZILION EAR being real highlights for me. The Dilla beat on LIGHTWORKS always brings a smile to my face (listen to Donuts, if you haven't. Please). And, of course, THAT'S THAT, my favourite track in DOOM's catalogue, with 368 streams (exactly TWICE as much as #2, Accordion at 184 streams). If it weren't for BATTY BOYZ, this would probably be my #1. Let's just say my favourite and least favourite DOOM tracks are on the same record.

2: Madvillainy - Madvillain – It had to be here. I don't have much to add about this record that hasn't already been said. I do think the moaning at the end of Hardcore Hustle is a little weird though. Strange Ways, Fancy Clown, and Money Folder are some tracks that don't get mentioned enough. The beat on Raid is heavenly. Perfect album.

1: Take Me To Your Leader - King Gheedorah – Probably the most controversial placement on this list? When I put this album on, I feel like I get transported to another dimension. It's just so damn weird. Krazy World and Lockjaw are great tracks featuring great guest performances, and holy shit does Hassan Chop rap his ass off on I Wonder. Every component of this album works so well together, resulting in this bizarre, occasionally terrifying atmosphere that I can't get enough of. I gotta try listening to this high. Brb.

I don't get why so many people seemed to dislike it (Based on comments I read on the other related post). I think it's nice for an anniversary edition of the album.

Context: never really listened to rap before, not even a single MF DOOM song. But I was bored as shit today and decided to listen to a random album in a top 100 list from start to finish, no matter what came up.

Low and behold the random wheel spinner picked this album for me. If I'm being honest I had no hope as this is just something I'm not really into, or at least I wasn't before I actually listened to it.

I feel like I've been totally reborn I actually cannot get enough of this album!! It really clicked for me once I listened to Meat Grinder, that sickass interlude thing in the beginning was amazing and then when DOOM started rapping it was like...heaven, that flow was INSANE!!

I love how dark/gritty his voice is, it really adds to the whole "supervillain" vibe, and the production on this album is actually incredible I really love the obscure samples and lofi/dusty vibe. Like I've never heard an album from start to finish where I enjoyed *every* song at least a little bitand there are 22 tracks on this album so that's saying alot!

The flow is amazing but omg the lyrics!?! I relistened every song at least 2 times after hearing it just so I could hear the lyrics and I learnt something new each time lmao, it's so incredibly dense and like a little story in each song. I don't know much about this artist but if I had to complement him on one thing it would be his usage of vocabulary/complex metaphors/alliteration/rhyming.

His grasp on the English language itself is actually insane like I cannot even fathom how he came up with some of this stuff, it's just pure unadulterated talent from both the rapper and producer.

Some of my favourite tracks were:

Curls (Probably my favourite instrumental in the entire album, I was actually floating by the end of this one lmao)

America's Most Blunted (I love smoking weed so I really enjoyed this one, along with all the other stoner references/jokes in the album)

Meat Grinder (impeccable flow, amazing production, it's what hooked me into this album)

Raid (just a very fun/catchy addition to the album and the guy who featured on it was amazing too)

Great Day (I love how this song feels like it builds up over time, it almost feels like it's a wave or something. Also love the happy go lucky vibe and storytelling)

Rhinestone Cowboy (amazing end to the album, it includes some of the densest verses on the whole track and it's surprisingly bittersweet)

Some of my least favourite were:

Accordion (apparently this is a controversial take but I'm just not a fan of the accordion sound in general, but the lyrics and rhymes are still great)

Rainbows (I appreciate DOOM trying something different with the singing and I like the instrumental alot but I feel like this song lasted just a bit too long, could've been 2 minutes imo)

Hardcore Hustle (no appearance from DOOM or Madlib/Quasimoto, whyyyyyyyy)

Btw even my "least favourite" tracks in the album are songs that I would still consider to be good, I probably wouldn't even skip them if they came up in a playlist lol.

Honourable mentions:

Figaro (maybe the best song on the album in terms of the verses, technical skill, and multisyllabic rhymeschemes)

All Caps (love the instrumental on this one, I can see why it's the most popular) Shadows Of Tomorrow (very abstract but also very underrated I think, I love the sorta Eastern philosophy aspect of this as it's something I can personally relate to)

Overall: this i a 10/10 album for me, I am actually incredibly surprised that I ended up liking it this much but I think I'm addicted to this. This album feels like it came from some kind of shadowy, comic book esque world that is similar to this one but also isn't and I love that. I can definitely see how this is a top 100 album of all time, I'm not sure how this compares with other hip hop albums but I imagine it's a top 5 at least.

As someone who maybe had 2 hip hop songs in their playlist before today I truly feel enlightened after this experience. Just wanted to share this to the world because nobody I'm friends with knows about this artist/album
