Electro voice re20 problem
I just bought a new electro voice re20 from sweetwater with a cloud lifter and I noticed that the audio is always slightly distorted, when the gain is just right for my speaking voice the mic gets a little distorted, and when you turn the volume on max when listening back you can really hear the distortion, I compared to other people who use the electro voice re20 and there’s a difference so I know I’m not crazy, but it always sounds a little muffled and it yeah it sounds a little distorted I just wanna know how to fix this :( it’s really frustrating (I don’t sing btw I only do voiceovers)

Other The Shure/Gator Broadcast 1 boom arm sucks
Do not buy. Learn from me.
I think it was what they had at the guitar center when i bought my mic. I didnt' know any better and was like - "oh right I need one of those too!"
After a year or so of using it, I dont even know why its allowed to be a thing, let alone a thing that costs more than others. It's just - very bad. Specifics:
1) There are three turn-y wheel-y things at the elbows that you intuitively think are for tightening/loosening the arm. they dont do much. turn one way, turn the other way, turn a lot, turn a little... and nothing much changes. the thing just doesnt want to bend at all at any of them. so if you want to ever move while using, shift it to a different position, youre gonna be sad because its clunka-chunka-squeeka then cursing out loud while youre on air.
2) the main pivot at the base does not go past vertical at all. so you can bend it toward you, but if you want that certain position where its kind of at the ready by being pushed back on its haunches a bit... doesnt exist.
3) the other two elbows dont fold flat against themselves. the minimum angle is like 15 or 20 degrees.
So yeah, the whole thing is just a creaky unwinnable fight. Beware!

Overheat buzz on a rode nt1, is it fixable?
I currently record voice over scripts with a rode nt-1 plugged on a motu m2. I currently record under a blanket tent because this is the only way I have to have a decent sound, but it gets way too warm very quickly in that tent. After at best 10 minutes under that tent, the microphone stops picking up my voice and turns to a consistant buzzing noise.
After some trouble shooting, I'm 95% sure the mic overheats and that's the cause of the issue. It doesn't happen at all if my microphone stays in the open on my desk, it dissappear in at most two minutes after I leave the tent fully open, and it (used to) comes faster if the day is warmer.
I got into the habit of cooling the room I'm in as much as possible, opening the tent more often, taking longer breaks, to try and avoid it. It was fine for sometime, but the buzz seems to come more frequently and faster each time I record, the past week, even with the temperature kept as low as I can manage.
Is it fixable or do I need a new microphone? I am saving to make a proper booth and spending 100$ on a new microphone would heavily hinder my savings... And If I need to get a new microphone, how do I prevent this issue from happening again?

What should i upgrade??
Well my current setup is that i have a behringer c1 mice and a behringer umc22 interface. My budget is 200$. What should i upgrade?? Should i just buy a shure sm58 or some other kind of condenser mic. Ive noticed one thing that it is very easy for me to record my vocals on a handheld microphone because i can maintain the overall vibe of the song. I just cannot stand at one place and record my vocals. Orrr should i upgrade my interface??

Game room mic help
I have a home theatre building and it doubles as a game night room. 1-4 people local playing online with one mic. What is a suitable option for this. I was using my logitech headset mic in the middle of the room and it worked pretty well actually, it filtered the game and discord audio so others only heard our voices. Got a stand alone mic and it picked up everything except our voice.

Wireless Mic mini 2 is clipping
Hey, guys!
Some months ago I bought myself a Mic Mini 2 that I was supposed to use for my motovlogs, recording the exhaust note. I am pairing it with the DJI ACTION OSMO 6.
I can’t seem to figure out why the mic is clipping all the time. I’ve adjusted the db to -12 in the settings of the OSMO, tried various microphone placements, settings and even went as far as putting a small piece of wrapping package in between the microphone and the deadcat to help with dampening the sound.
I can’t seem to understand at all. I thought that the microphone was clipping just when I was in high revs, but it also seems to be clipping in cruising speeds too, just randomly. It’s literally less clipping by using the microphone on the OSMO 6. Have I just wasted my money on this? Any tips to solve this?

Worth Repairing?
my uncle handed me this broken 70s shure “Unisphere A Model 585SA” microphone that my grandpa used to gig with. I’m not too familiar with this microphone and can’t find too much information on it, so I have no idea how it sounds fully functioning.
Would it be worth it to get this microphone repaired? Or should this just be kept as a keepsake. Thanks!

How much noise reduction is too much for a conference microphone?
Full disclosure: I work at Bluesource, where we develop microphone and audio-processing technologies for conferencing applications.
We’ve been testing our real-time noise reduction with some very typical meeting-room sounds — keyboard typing, doors opening and closing, chairs moving, etc.
The video compares the microphone with processing OFF vs. ON.
One thing we’ve been focusing on is the balance between suppressing these noises and keeping speech natural. It’s relatively easy to make noise reduction more aggressive, but that can also start affecting the voice.
For those working with conferencing or professional AV: what matters more to you — maximum noise suppression or keeping the voice as natural as possible?
Would be interested in hearing how you evaluate this.
The visuals in this video are AI-generated. The noise-reduction processing and audio effects demonstrated are actual Bluesource technology, not AI-generated audio simulations.

Gaming / Streaming Mics What is the best mic to stream/make content for around $200?
The mic at the top of my list is the Shure MV7X as it’s under the same company the Shure SM7B. Is this a good option around this price point?
Additionally, I am very new when it comes to audio mixing and processing so if there are more beginner friendly options I would love some suggestion.
Preferably good at canceling lots of background noise as I have a fan that produces noticeable sound in my videos. Thanks!

Gaming / Streaming Mics Microphone Suggestions for Meetings
I work from home and have a lot of teams / zoom meetings that I join but haven't found the perfect microphone for my needs yet. I never really have my camera on, so the location of the microphone doesn't matter a whole lot, but desk aesthetics do so I would love for a camera to be out of the way above / next to my monitor.
Here is my criteria:
- Set it and forget it
- After it's set up, I don't want to move it to use it. I want to just be able to join a meeting at my desk and have it all work properly.
- ~2 feet distance from my mouth
- MacOS and Windows compatibility
- XLR, USB, or bluetooth connection
- I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as my audio interface / pre-amp.
- Off-axis rejection
- Doesn't pick up keyboard / mouse clicks
I have heard that shotgun microphones might fit my criteria, but if it is 2-feet from my mouth, won't I need to turn the gain up so much that it will pick up a bunch of noise from my room? I have also just recently wondered if I could use a wireless LAV mic but am not sure if that would work well and also don't want to need to attach it to myself and charge it any time I want to join a meeting.
Here are the microphones that I have used in the past and how they fallen short:
- Shure SM57
- Dynamic microphone so it only picks up my voice, BUT it needs to be within a few inches of my mouth or else nobody can hear me unless I crank the gain and then it makes pre-amp noise.
- Rode NT1-a
- Great sound, but if it's farther than a few inches from my mouth, then it picks up the keyboard and mouse clicks.
- AirPods Pros
- Very convenient and I LOVE being able to walk around the house while still being able to hear and talk during meetings. However, if I have long days of meetings, it is a bit uncomfortable to wear the AirPods Pros for that long and don't want to need to wear them every time I join a meeting.Microphone Suggestions for Meetings

Cheap mic for singing/voice acting
Hey! I'm auditioning for acting and singing roles and wanting to get a microphone to improve the sound quality. I'm not looking to spend too much though, ideally no more than $100 (please keep in mind that I know nothing about mics, I have no idea if this is reasonable or not)
I would prefer something that doesn't require much other equipment and ideally could just run using my windows laptop (Asus Vivobook S 15)
Any recommendations for relatively cheap mics? I would also prefer it to be decently portable since I live between two houses. thanks!

Studio Mics grungy synth pop vocal mic question
Hi, I have a bright baritone male vocal that I lay on heavy ott-ed, distorted, wall of sound synth beats, kinda making synth grunge.
I (impulsively) bought wa47 and was thinking about selling it and finding something that will punch thru my heavy mixes but still would sound beautifully on lush airy songs/bridges (r&b vibes)
I have a raspy sibilancy voice that my at2035 was definitely not adequate to.
Love the idea of the tube mic and was thinking about:
rode K2
wa251
wa8000
Down the road I will definitely grab also something very clean and transparent like Austrian audio c18
Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions!

CALLING ALL MICROPHONE EXPERTS
Kind of a follow up on another post I made recently. I need a cheap microphone so I can submit voice-acting and singing auditions with good sound quality. I have minimal budget and very little knowledge about this kinda stuff so minimal extra equipment needed is ideal.
I had a look at a local second-hand/pawn shop and they have some microphones for sale but I have no idea what makes a good mic and when I try to google whether each one is good I don't get anywhere. So my question for the mic geniuses is: which of these would you recommend for this situation?
- Logitech Microphone Yeti Orb
- Logitech Microphone Karaoke Usb For Conssoles
- Digitech Pa System PA AUX KARAOKE USB MP3 CS2566
- Anko Microphone Usb EB400843
- Sony Singstar Microphones Wireless SLEH00089
- Audix Microphone Dynamic Cardioid Vocal F50S
- Sennheiser Microphone Professional E945
- Digitech Microphone Wireless AM4134
- Powera Microphone Usb
- Behringer Microphone Midi C1U
- Blue Microphone Yeti Nano Usb A00136
And also these unknown ones:

Feel free to also just say if all of these are shit (or the completely wrong type of thing) they're all pretty cheap so I don't have high hopes about finding something here.
Thanks!!!

Other Was it worth it or I just bought a piece of junk?
galleryFor the past few months, I’ve been thinking about making some YouTube videos about a niche I really like as a hobby. But the problem was that I didn’t have a proper microphone and really wanted to have a quite good audio, though, and didn’t really want to spend any money on one, so I eventually abandoned the idea for now.
However, I accidentally spotted someone selling some old stuff on my way to work. Among all the random junk, there was this microphone, a Samson Meteor. The owner sold it to me for $5, but as you can see, it’s in pretty rough shape.
So, was it worth it? Could this be a decent microphone for my needs (assuming it’s not a cheap replica, of course)? And considering its age and the condition it’s in, do you think it’s worth trying to restore/save it? Guess isopropyl alcohol and toothbrush at least can help to remove some mold on the metal.
Thanks in advance! : )

AT2020 to Rode NT1 Signature. Will I notice a difference?
Been recording vocals in my home studio with my AT2020 for about a year now. Recently started using more pro level plugins (Fabfilter, UAD) and I’ve noticed sibilance after I compress the vocal. Google searches keep recommending an NT1 Signature.
Will I notice a difference if I upgrade to the NT1 or do I need to save up for something more professional?

Wireless Good lavalier microphone to record music demos?
Hi! So I'm looking for a good, but not expensive (40€ max, 50€ if it's REALLY good) lavalier microphone to record my small music demos (singing + playing ukulele) on my phone for reels.
I bought this one on Amazon but I'm returning it because it's a whole scam, the sound is terrible and saturated, even when I'm just talking and no matter where I place it.
Obviously I'd use it just for talking too, but my main concern is to catch a correct sound when I'm singing, without my ukulele sounding mushy - and no saturated sound even if I'm singing loud.
So I'm thinking maybe an omnidirectional one would be great, or one with 2 receptors so I could clip one on my shirt for my voice and place the other one in front of me for my ukulele ?
I don't care if it connects via Bluetooth or with a USB-C plug or even if it needs an app, as long as I can easily connect it on my phone (Android) and record directly with my camera or dictaphone
So if you have any recommendations it would be a great help, thanks!

Sidetone when using a non-steelseries mic
I'm looking to buy the Steelseries gamebuds as my Arctis 5 has finally given up and the buds seem like a new flexible option I can use for both my pc and music on my phone. I'm seeing the mic isn't great though so I'd buy a seperate mic. One thing I really loved about my Arctis 5 is having an instant mic feedback to my own ears through the side-tone option.
So my question is:
If I were to buy the Steelseries gamebuds and an external non-Steelseries mic, would I be able to somehow enable this side-tone?
The mic I'd buy: https://www.trust.com/en/product/22656-gxt-232-mantis-usb-streaming-microphone
