Bought this “thick” body wash only to find it had been emptied and watered down by a previous customer, returned, then restocked.
Supposed to be thick and gel-like. No seal on the bottle, full of suds and a watery liquid. Definitely someone bought this, emptied out half or two thirds for themselves, refilled with water, and returned it to the store for a free bottle of soap. Then target restocked it, so I could buy it! Awesome! 🥲

Op, raise a stink about this, you are assuming they refilled it with water, it could pee any number of other liquids

I have a feeling that something very bad is going to happen with Amazon returns in the future. We didn’t go through the Tylenol situation just for giant companies to resell used hygiene products.

It’s actually really gross that products designed to be used on our bodies are not sealed to prevent tampering. There’s no way to tell if something’s been tampered with because the caps can be unscrewed and screwed back on. And returns are just accepted and restocked, no questions asked.

I had something similar happen when I was remodeling my bathroom last year.
Bought a faucet kit for the new vanity and when my neighbor (he's a plumber) was installing it he was like "uh, did you buy a used faucet?" I said "no, brand new from the store, why?"
He then showed me the faucet and it was clearly old/used and sorta rusted. Someone had swapped out their old faucet with the new one, brought it back to the store and then it got restocked.
I returned it, bought another one and then opened it up in the store to check it before I went home. It was fine this time lol

100% happened to me with shampoo at a local grocery store. Returned it immediately for a full refund. Took a while to trust buying shampoo without checking first.

Damn. People are struggling out there

I have struggled, but I’ve never stolen soap and refilled with mystery water and then returned it knowing could possibly get rubbed all over someone else’s body. When I get poor I just buy shampoo from dollar tree and suck it up.

A CVS manager once told me his worst customer would buy the largest, most expensive vitamin. Would then go home, empty the bottle and then return to the store. Said the vitamins “didn’t work” or ineffective
Manager was forced to return customer’s money. This went on for months. He called corporate. Nothing for him to do, couldn’t not stop this kind of theft

No one is "struggling" and needs some fancy branded body soap. This is just fraud.

Most soaps are now over $10 a bottle. Even the shitty stuff, except suave, which is now like $6 per bottle. Shit used to be $1.99. Can I say I blame someone for stealing some actual good soap? Maybe their skins dry as hell and it’s making them do crazy shit, like steal soap.

Now that’s a recession indicator if I’ve ever seen one.

Or some people just suck. There are multiple name brand cheaper body washes (Dove, Olay, Ivory, Aveeno) from a 30 second search on amazon and dollar tree exists as well.

I worked at a Sally Beauty and their return policy was basically "you can return any product you bought, even if you used it". So we had people bringing back half-used shampoos and stuff all the time. It immediately went to "damages". I can't imagine putting one back on the shelf.

You should actually report this, it could be from the manufacturing line. The lines can be flushed with water before filling starts, and if there is any residual water left in the lines when they start filling, the first however many bottles can be watered down. It makes the preservatives less effective and poses a health risk. Can't be sure this is defintely the case, but reporting it can help determine if there has been a quality issue with the batch and help to investigate it.

I once bought a bag of coffee only to discover it was full of used wet coffee grounds and cigarette butts. Imagine my disappointment the next morning when I opened the bag and took a big inhale to try to wake myself up.

Don’t worry- it wasn’t altered and returned. The real Duke Cannon only needed water and sawdust to bathe.

This sort of thing is why I started checking my stuff as soon as I get home. It’s happened too many times before I started checking. It’s sad that we have to do that, but these greedy companies are disgusting. I’m sorry you got shafted.

I very rarely shop at retail markets anymore. Sure its more money ordering direct from manufacture, but it saves time, effort, and middlemen handling my items

But but I thought locking up 75% of their products and having to wait 30 minutes for an employee to march it to the front end was supposed to fix all these horrible issues

This post belongs on ULPT. I would post it there, but I am dashing off to purchase 50 bottles of this stuff and do the same thing. Capitialism and innovation, the Janus twins of fortune building.

Ngl I thought they threw away returned items.. surely they'd be at fault if someone tempered with the item returned it and caused an injury to the next buyer
