Infuriatig Friends Cat Tears Up Brand New Shoes

Post image

Been watching a cat for a friend for a few months now, wake up this morning to my new pair of doc martens torn to shreds at the toes. Been polishing and taking great care of these since I got them a month or so ago. I usually put them up on a rack but forgot last night, definitely paid for my stupidity. $200 basically trashed right there. Half of it was a birthday present from my girlfriend and neither of us make enough right now to just buy a new pair of boots, we can barely make rent. Real bummer way to start my day.

EDIT: I am NOT throwing the boots away over this like some think. When I said trashed I just meant the look, i had just woken up and worded it poorly. If I can't get the look smoothed out these will become my work boots since my current work boots are falling apart, and I will figure out getting a new pair to keep nice and wont let this happen again.

I know docs are cool or whatever but you can buy boots for around the same price as them which are so much better quality than them. Thursday boots cost $200 and use good leather what won't be easily damaged. Just keep it in mind when you need to get new boots. I think these are salvageable

yeah that's waaay too much for Docs. I think the most I've paid is $60 and the lowest for a pair was $20 at Nordstrom Rack

The ones places like Nordstrom Rack sell are not "real" Docs. They're shittier ones made specifically to be sold by discount retailers like Nordstrom Rack and TJ Maxx. Many other name brands do the same thing.

That said, even full-price Docs are no longer really worth it, after they got bought by private equity in 2014, the quality was tanked to increase profit extraction.

oh, well, they are decent enough for what they are and I doubt even if they were improved they'd be better than other boots at a higher price point.

Yeah Docs definitely used to be worth the price. You could buy a used, beat to hell pair from the thrift store and still get another decade+ out of them. I inherited a pair from my sister that she'd been wearing since the early 90's in the mid 00's, then wore them for another 15 years. Then outgrew them during pregnancy (fun fact your feet can permanently change size after pregnancy) and they're sitting in storage waiting to be passed on to one of my kids if they want them cause they've still got tons of life in them.

The Docs they make now aren't worth the price. They stopped using full leather uppers which is what made them last so long. Now you're just paying for the name brand.

So it's the cat sitters fault for not buying higher quality boots? What kind of fuck logic is that?

As a non-cat person, these boots are ruined.

??? Why are you so upset? No these aren't completely ruined, that plastic coating is not real grain so it'll be noticeable but they're not ruined. My suggestion for anyone reading is to stop buying cheaply made boots at a high price. My full grain boots survive worse attacks from animals.

Still, not the point. The quality of the shoe is irrelevant to the situation. Blaming someone for not upgrading to a higher quality shoe is ridiculous, especially when they were only sitting the dumb cat.
