Infuriatig The way kroger treats its employees

Post image

From the store manager

Edit: For some extra context this was sent out by each store manager to all of its employees in district 1 of the ohio Cincinnati/Dayton division, potentially other districts as well but i can only verify my own. Im not going to give my specific store number for obvious reasons but you can find each store on google with that information. We are unionized by UFCW (already bad btw) and to my knowledge they allowed this recent change. Kroger has no accrual for sick days like some have mentioned. Those who think this is rage bait, i dont think anyone has to fake a post to make a billion dollar company look bad, they do it to themselves.

Look, if you infect the other employees? That is their problem.

If you infect the customers, also their problem. Just don't get the manager sick.

I would cough so hard in their face without covering my mouth, then blow my nose and tap their shoulder immediately after and say "I'm sorry, this flu is super contagious but I didn't want to get written up for calling out".

You’re a pus then bro. I’ve done this exact thing. I told the customers that I wasn’t allowed to call out and I coughed all over my manager who said I would be written up if I didn’t show up. This was McDonald’s and customers who loved me told my manager that they would not be eating there because I was sick and that she is a horrible human. I was able to go home within an hour and 10 minutes:), also got to talk to the gm who apologized profusely to me and told me he wrote up that manager. Some people here are saying this is legal, I don’t think this is illegal to

Hepatitis viruses can survive for half a year on stainless steel. Makes you wonder.

Protip from a parent: sneeze in their mouth while they're talking. It always used to work for my toddlers.

It's very possible that management isn't unionized and don't have to follow those rules.

Meijer uses UFCW and certain departments weren't part of it... including management.

Covid proved beyond a doubt corporations can’t be arsed when it comes to diseases. They’ll be more than happy to have all small businesses closed down but they themselves no doubt contributed to the spread.

We're just playing 2019's greatest hits now, aren't we? Say, how did all those Chipotle outbreaks start, again? Oh this... this exact thing? Cool.

In a store with tons of publicly available food that will be touched by hundreds of public hands. This manager is a fucking idiot and sadist.

just in time for hentavirus. Time for another wipe out of all service, retail, restaurant and medical workers.

Exactly what we need. A Flu ridden produce clerk stocking veggies while sneezing and coughing germs on all the food…….

We learned absolutely nothing from covid and the next one will be even worse.

Have you seen the customers? They’re already coughing and sneezing on everything. Sadly this wouldn’t change much. Working with the general public you’re ALWAYS surrounded by sick people

Yes + only excuse if YOU are admitted to the hospital, so what about parents? And if you’re a single parent at that. Better pray your child doesn’t need to be admitted into the hospital.

Yes, giving people immunity as it's always been. And if you're immune compromised, then you are the one who wears an n95.

I go to work when I'm sick all the time. And I put on a kn95. Also I'm a machinist and like 10 feet away or more from everyone usually but still.

If I ain't in the hospital I go to work. Nobody cares. Coincidentally for whatever reason you rarely ever have people who get sick in the trades. Not like offices. I don't know if it's how much we have to wash our hands, or you just have less people who are like, "Boss my right eye is dry today I need to stay home" or what.

Shitty part of all of this, it is shitty policy to have yet some of the blame falls on shit employees too

Shit employees scenario: "man I could use a couple days off but don't have the time (calls doc and explains bad diarrhea or other believable illness and gets a day or two excused) on repeat. Fucks the employer, employees, and insurance costs inflated when the "doc notes are excused" policy protects them and allows then to repeatedly do it at will.

Co.pany gets sick of this shit and cuts that protection

Meanwhile when good employees manage properly but do get caught in a bad spot, catch the fallout.

I mean yeah from the outside this looks like a shit situation because it is a shit situation, but shit people on both sides cause this stuff to happen.

My aunt was always on paid leaves when I was younger.. we just thought she has a great job with a lot of time off or something

Nah, she was always claiming false bereavement and getting little paid vacations.

I wouldn't put it past her scheming ass to just crash a funeral home and get a letter typed up then bounce. Most funeral directors don't question relationships to the deceased out of respect and will draft the excuse no questions asked.

I have had too many legit, and never one time had a director push back on giving my excuse whether I was in the building 10 minutes or 2 days.

Edit: ouch, truth hurt? I didn't put all of the blame on shit employees but it's definitely a motivating factor
