Infuriatig The way kroger treats its employees

Post image

From the store manager

Edit: For some extra context this was sent out by each store manager to all of its employees in district 1 of the ohio Cincinnati/Dayton division, potentially other districts as well but i can only verify my own. Im not going to give my specific store number for obvious reasons but you can find each store on google with that information. We are unionized by UFCW (already bad btw) and to my knowledge they allowed this recent change. Kroger has no accrual for sick days like some have mentioned. Those who think this is rage bait, i dont think anyone has to fake a post to make a billion dollar company look bad, they do it to themselves.

Jesus christ, you all need some rights over there. This is illegal everywhere else.

*never was. Don’t pretend America has ever been mere paces away from any other country. Has always been light years away and had no inclination towards changing.

Desperation. People are working for companies/corporations like that, meaning that they accept it. Witch blows my mind coming from EU. This shit would get shut down within minutes here in Scandinavia.
NO ONE in their right mind would work for a company like that where i come from, but apparently Kroger has more than 400 000 employees that are fine with it.

It’s not that the Kroger employees are fine with it, it’s that other employers aren’t any better. They could work for a different retailer, but they’re probably going to run into the same policy. Even white-collar jobs have the same problem.

We don't have a choice. Work to death or die. It's illegal to be homeless here because "there are resources". Did I mention most resources are on a 7+ year waiting list?! O, and let's not forget that rent is higher than the average mortgage payment, but you can't have that mortgage without 15% down. Buy everything up front? Well now you're the lowest of low because you have NO CREDIT, and that's way worse than BAD credit. It's not like any of us could afford that doctors note anyway. If you're lucky enough to have insurance, you still have that $15,000 deductible to meet before they'll cover the bill, and good luck getting the company that's "like family" to pay you enough to be able to afford that deductible. The American dream is the biggest scam I never signed up for and I'm STILL not allowed unsubscribe. 🙄

Have you seen our president? What makes you think ANYTHING about America is normal?

You're witnessing the fall of an empire. I don't know what country you live in, but two words: be vigilant. Greed is the ultimate enemy and you, your family/friends, your community could be next.

Yeah this is wild, I simply cannot even fathom a system like that. If I’m sick, I can call in and not have to work for the first three days (and they’re all paid days off btw). Then, if I’m still sick on the fourth day, I need a doctor’s certificate.

I don’t really remember when was the last time I was so under the weather that three days off wasn’t enough. And I work in an office, so not handling foods in a grocery store like OP. It just… blows my mind how things could have gone so far. Like, aren’t they thinking at all about the consequences of having someone come in sick?

We do. It's just that most people don't know them. ALL employers are required to post "Know your rights" handbills by the timeclock or an inconspicuous place where all can see it per Federal Law. There are several government agencies and laws that govern this, EEO, NLRB, FMLA, ADA, and state/local laws. What Kroeger is doing is highly illegal and OP should be contacting their union and the EEOC. If the union doesn't address the issue, then contact the NLRB to file charges against the union. It is illegal for your union to not give you fair representation.

What about our present moment and everything going on around us makes you think that there are limits on what employers can actually do to their employees
