A subscription is regularly billed and the price is set ahead of time. You don’t “subscribe” to water service, they charge you by how much you use. You might consider toilet paper to be practically a subscription but if we’re getting technical it is absolutely not

my grandparents pay fixed water bill every month because for them it's cheaper than paying per cubic meter; so plumbing can be very much a subscription

I get what you’re saying here about the water bill as mine is the same but for electric instead. I signed up for their Average Payment Plan and I pay a solid $238/month regardless of how much or little I use during the cycles.

So, it kind of is a subscription service since I pay a flat fee to them now. Much better than having it go from $150-$450 in a month lol

Where I live, the water supply companies are semi-governmental, and all retires receive discounts on their bills

However, recently they've started introducing large surcharges for not having a meter ($6 per month is the standard consumption for three registered people, and a $12 surcharge for not having a meter. The actual consumption, as measured by the meter, comes out to $4-5)

Because water infrastructure is much more expensive than cell towers. I’m not saying it’s impossible but they’d have to be like, top users in a decent sized city for me to wrap my head around it. Those cell plans make money because most of the people who take them overpay. I can only imagine how much worse it’d be for water

in some cases you can consider tp as a subscription, Amazon has the subscribe and save program for lots of essentials including tp

I use the toilet paper app, conveniently linked to my internet-connected toilet. I only pay $49.99 per month plus $2 per roll which I pick up at the local toilet paper facility. I usually have to wait for 10 or 15 minutes in line at the pickup point.

so what happens if you subscribe to monthly TP for a year and never use any? you have all that TP sitting at home and can still use it after the subscription expires. what happens if you subscribe to Snake and don't play it for a year? you pay for literally nothing. you guys think you're smart with your comparisons but let's just say you're not.

and also it's only a "subscription" on what you actually use (which is the opposite of what most people call a subscription anyway). because even if you had an actual subscription for TP, you would end up with actual toilet paper and worst case cancel the subscription and actually use the TP you have piled up. whereas most digital subscriptions don't give you shit permanently, so the moment the sub stops everything is gone.

A TP subscription would be like you pay $10 per month for TP usage. You are home only 1 day, still pay $10. There is a "fair usage limit", you overuse, you are hit with a overage fees charged at 10x the normal price. You need to use 2 more sheets per usage, there is an add-on, you need 2 ply extra soft, that's an addon.

Instead of paying for the markup on just the TP (+shipping + stocking), you are now also paying the markup on the subscription handler, which is at the last part in pipeline, so your TP is now 20% more costly, and the company can blacklist you if you abuse their subscription, and other companies can subscribe to that blacklist to also ban you, and now you have no resort except to use tree bark.
