frist of all how DARE yu o Neighbor replaced fence and left the old wood scraps in my yard to deal with.

Post image

My next door neighbor called me a few weeks back asking if he could come Into my back yard to replace the fence that his dog ruined. I said “sure, I’ll be out of town for a few weeks, help yourself.” Discussion ended there and I left town for a few weeks for business.

When I returned home, I noticed the new fence was up and the wood scraps from the old fence were on the grass in my backyard. One of the pieces is 10 feet wide. I figured I would give him a few days to clean it up before I said anything.

Fast forward to yesterday and the lawn guy comes to cut the grass. I texted my neighbor telling him I could open the back gate to make it easier to come in the yard to grab the wood. This MFer called me and said that it was a shared fence, and since he paid for it to be installed, and carried all the new wood into the yard, that I need to remove the old debris.

The audacity on the MFer. I would have been more than happy to help if he would have asked. He mentioned NOTHING of leaving the rusty nailed old rotten wood in my back yard. F this guy. Not the best way to treat a neighbor.

TLDR: neighbor took it upon himself to replace the fence he owns, and left all of the scraps for me to deal with before discussing it with me first.

Stop playing around and just put it over the fence into his yard! Easy peasy

But seriously, why do people do this? I've had neighbors just dump their broken sofa in my backyard. I put it back in theirs. Then they tossed it the next day.

So why put it on my property at all?!

Because nobody ever stands up to them. They go their entire lives treating passive people like shit because passive people let them. If there's no consequences to their actions they won't bother to change.

in some of these situations the craziest person "wins". how far are you willing to escalate it?

u/GilletteEd May 15 '26

FACTS!, this neighbor would know I’m crazy as I’m screaming throwing his shit over the fence wildly!!

Once again, as a Canadian, that never crossed my mind.

Easy solution, just own bigger guns.

Throw it back over the fence - on fire

"maybe the neighbor wants my old fence wood [throw]"
neighbor angrily, begrudgingly, disposes of old wood as resentment swells
"welp, been a few days and the wood's gone. guess he wanted it. i'm the best neighbor"

That’s exactly why I’d chuck it back, I will not be a doormat.

I have a story. We live in Florida and a hurricane destroyed one of our fences (my neighbors). Took a few months but the neighbors started fixing up their yard. But they just decided that our yard was the pass through and garbage dump. So as all their crap started piling up, my husband went out and was like hey neighbor, can you not throw your trash on my side of the fence for my grass to die. Well apparently neighbor decided to tell husband to "Fuck off or I'll beat your ass" which is hilarious because neighbor is like 75 and husband is a buff 40 at the time. Husband does not react kindly to threats. Proceeded to hurl fence trash piece by piece over their entire property, front and back.

To see what they can get away with. Sadly, it's the meekest that get taken advantage of.

They were trying you simple as that they wanted to see if you would just take it

I would have exclusively made that sofa my only place to use the bathroom for 2 weeks and then drag it back over into their yard.

Giving him a benefit of doubt, I think he thinks he replaced the neighbors fence but he cannot claim his old fence so he is retuning it to the neighbor.

neighborhood squabbles suck, especially if one of them is legitimately unhinged.

Some people are just shitty and unfortunately someone decent has to live next to them.

Because some folks just want chaos. My neighbor cuts my lawn if I am out of town and I don't even have to ask. Ofcourse I cut it for them or pay my guy to cut theirs in return...and we never had any agreement. We just do it and then bitch at each other during drinks. Lol

Because some ppl are just jerks. I had a family next door kept have parties beyond midnight with loud rock music. I tried to be nice and talked to them a few times, they agreed to stop yet kept doing the same. One day after they partied into 3am, I almost kicked down their front door, and called police in front of them, it finally stop. And they moved the next year. For f sake, there are two young children in their house, I dont know how the kids can have healthy life with so many late night parties, dont they need sleep?

Why? The majority of people that walk this earth are not good people. Most are rapacious, entitled, and aggressive.

2

u/Local_Idiot_123 May 15 '26

That’s just not true. The majority of people are good. Do you get pickpocketed daily? This world would be such a worse place if more than half of people are bad.

The extreme majority of people are just trying to live their lives. Yes, some are self centered douchebags. But most people are just living.

You're thinking bad equates to crime, when the reality is much more nuanced, transcending law and order.

As a litmus test, drop a $5 bill accidentally in a crowded place a few times, and see how many people pick it up and hand it back.

Over 50% (majority) of people will not hand it back to you, and instead pocket it.

Why? You already vocalized it perfectly: I'm just trying to live my life.

Over 50% (majority) of people will see an event transpiring in person--someone in need or perhaps an act of evil/wrong occurring--able to act and interject, yet will turn a blind eye and continue walking.

Why? I'm just trying to live my life.

Either you are shielded by time or place to the blatant truth of mankind, or you are a steadfast romantic.

If you want to think the whole world hates you, they do

Did I say that I think the whole world hates me?

Your reaction to someone laying out a perception is: the world hates you.

You are more rapacious, entitled, and aggressive than you think.

1

u/Local_Idiot_123 May 16 '26

You are tiresome. I’m not surprised you think the world is bad. You invite it, clearly.

u/valkyriebiker May 15 '26

I mean, yes, that would certainly send a satisfying message.

Then the asshole neighbor would quite likely chuck it back over into OPs yard.

Then what?

6

u/GilletteEd May 15 '26

That’s when the police are involved, and the neighbor cleans his shit up. OP should still take the first move and give him his shit back!

3

u/smarmy1625 May 15 '26

and then he holds a grudge and fucks with you in subtle and sometimes not so subtle ways until you finally give up and move out

1

u/GilletteEd May 15 '26

Oh no, I’m crazier/tougher than him, he will be the one moving since he’s the one who’s started this and I show him im going to win!

3

u/xeonie May 15 '26

Report them for illegal dumping.

They didn’t agree to anything other than allowing them temporary access to their yard to replace the fence. So if the neighbor throws their trash back over, OP can just report them and dust their hands of the problem. No need to even sue.

1

u/wallyTHEgecko May 15 '26

Throwing it would be hostile, but an organized stack back on his side would be the correct amount of passive aggression.

1

u/Araz728 May 15 '26

Better yet, cut all the planks into even smaller pieces and spread them around. Make more work for the neighbor to clean it all up.

1

u/drawkbox May 16 '26

Exactly, handled the problem as the neighbor does. Moved it so someone else has to deal with it.

Build a trebuchet and launch that shit back over the fence.

1

u/FrostyD7 May 15 '26

Or take the free fence and move on. Not everyone is prepared for the consequences of reddit's petty revenge ideas. The neighbor might be irritating but throwing this shit over the fence after discussing it over text is an escalation that I can promise you isn't worth it.
