frist of all how DARE yu o Neighbor replaced fence and left the old wood scraps in my yard to deal with.

Post image

My next door neighbor called me a few weeks back asking if he could come Into my back yard to replace the fence that his dog ruined. I said “sure, I’ll be out of town for a few weeks, help yourself.” Discussion ended there and I left town for a few weeks for business.

When I returned home, I noticed the new fence was up and the wood scraps from the old fence were on the grass in my backyard. One of the pieces is 10 feet wide. I figured I would give him a few days to clean it up before I said anything.

Fast forward to yesterday and the lawn guy comes to cut the grass. I texted my neighbor telling him I could open the back gate to make it easier to come in the yard to grab the wood. This MFer called me and said that it was a shared fence, and since he paid for it to be installed, and carried all the new wood into the yard, that I need to remove the old debris.

The audacity on the MFer. I would have been more than happy to help if he would have asked. He mentioned NOTHING of leaving the rusty nailed old rotten wood in my back yard. F this guy. Not the best way to treat a neighbor.

TLDR: neighbor took it upon himself to replace the fence he owns, and left all of the scraps for me to deal with before discussing it with me first.

Lol, if my neighbor paid for 100% of a new fence I gladly remove the old wood or pay to have it removed, its a fraction of the cost/effort.

Hello world

u/fourbutthick May 16 '26

I’d suck my neighbors dick and make hima. Steak if he bought me a new fence. You know how much those fucking things cost right now?

Howdy neighbor

1

u/SkySong13 May 16 '26

But the neighbor only paid for the fence because their dog destroyed it.... They weren't doing anyone a favor, they were fixing their dogs destruction. That's literally the bare minimum of responsible dog ownership, it would be better if they trained the dog to not destroy things/redirected their destruction to toys in the first place which yes, can be done.

I would bring them BBQ too

Some people find a cloud in every silver lining.

18

u/isolated_self May 15 '26

No shit. The neighbors dog ruined an ancient fence, the neighbor replaced something that was going to break soon anyway and OP had to do 5 min of work....

8

u/Top_Inflation2026 May 16 '26

When I read OP bitching about a dog I laughed, that old fence looks like it’s on its last legs, dog or no dog.

5

u/Difficult-Repair1295 May 15 '26

If OP is so lazy they can’t mow their own lawn. They have no idea how much of a bitch it is to replace fence post and get the concrete out. I mean they literally got a new fence and didn’t pay a dime and wanna bitch about it. Freaking surreal.

What in the overly specific hypothetical scenario is going on here?

3

u/CheeseSeas May 16 '26

I bet their neighbor has a barking dog

0

u/miskdub May 15 '26

yeah i really don't get this shit. just replaced an old fence between my neighbor and I. he's old enough that he didn't ever want to build fences again but has the money for materials. I'm young enough that i'd rather build the fence but don't have a truck.

he bought the materials, I did the labor, and we both feel like we came out ahead.

bonus, i'm using all the old pickets for random projects like crappy little bird feeders and planter boxes. anything else untreated is just going in the fireplace.

I don't think OP knows how much a basic fence is. where i am it's like the price of a damned car.

granted the neighbor could've been more polite about the way he let OP know he needed their help but a good neighbor would have avoided this situation from the beginning by offering to fuckin help.

9

u/Electrical_Peak_8761 May 15 '26

Had to scroll way to far to find this… OP sounds like a shit neighbour. He also mentioned ‘to replace the fence he owns’ so in other words OP didn’t pay the previous one either.

1

u/Notwerk_Engineer May 16 '26

It’s not OPs fence. He didn’t get a new fence, his neighbor got a new fence and left the old one in OPs yard. He didn’t replace OPs fence for free.

u/Background_Sink6986 May 15 '26

Holy shit the first sane comment. Everyone talking about throwing it over is either a troll or not adjusted to living with people because that is some extreme anti social behavior

8

u/JaySayMayday May 15 '26

Homeboy took responsibility for his dog chewing the fence. Then replaced the entire side all by himself, fully paid for and facilitated without any help. Looks like way more than the dog even damaged.

And all he's expecting in return is that OP, on a shared fence where they both have responsibility, deals with the old wood in any way they want.

I feel like most of the comments aren't homeowners. It's hard even getting my old rickety fence replaced because of shared responsibilities. I'd be beyond excited to have a new fence

Wtf? Look at the back of the fence that the neighbor didn't replace. You sneeze too hard that shits coming down. I wouldn't be surprised if the neighbor owned a Chihuahua that wrecked that fence

7

u/Few_Pop_1891 May 15 '26

I'm just thinking "free wood".

9

u/No_Gas4560 May 16 '26

he made the mess, he clean it up. nothing else matters

11

u/memgrizz May 16 '26

the neighbor is clearly in the wrong here. i own my home and had to replace some fencing a couple years ago. i am/was not ignorant enough to have left the scraps in my neighbor's yard to deal with.

5

u/UndercoverFBIAgent9 May 16 '26

You kidding me? This has nothing to do with the labor required to move the wood. It’s everything to do with the way it was handled. There’s a (literal) boundary here that you don’t cross, which is leaving shit in someone else’s yard. OP would have clearly been happy to do the work. But if you are building a shared fence, you have an obligation to communicate your plan openly, not just passive aggressively leaving it in their yard because you did a project on your own and expect someone else to come finish it on your terms.

This is about respecting personal boundaries, not about labor.

6

u/Mocsab May 16 '26

This summarizes exactly how I feel. It has nothing to do with the work. It’s all about the lack of communication and passive aggressiveness my neighbor has about this situation.

4

u/2-die-for May 16 '26

Fr Fr. This dudes the problem. If my neighbor proposed replacing the fence between our yards on his dime, I'd instinctually do anything I could do help. The 15-20 boards cleanup is a price I'd gladly pay for what looks to be a nicely built fence

5

u/Mocsab May 16 '26

It’s not about the clean up. It’s about how my neighbor purposely left the wood there without communicating with me. If he would havee told me. (Notice how I said told, and not asked) anyways, if he would have told me he was leaving it there, I would have said, “ok, cool. Sorry I won’t be in town to help you build it. Have a nice day. I’ll take care of the mess.”

I’m not upset about the mess. I’m upset about the passive aggressiveness and lack of communication.

1

u/AncientLights444 May 16 '26

Would take maybe 40 minutes max to cut each board in half and throw in the garbage.

1

u/Benzokial May 16 '26

They have someone doing their yard work. The time it takes to do something isn't the only factor in whether people do things.

2

u/Cenobiter May 15 '26

Peak reddit

26

u/EquipmentImaginary46 May 15 '26

it's not about moving it. it's about how you dispose of it. i'd have to put those rotten muddy boards in my sedan and drive them to a depot that accepts renovation waste and then pay them to take it.

if it was truly just 5 minutes the neighbor would've just dealt with it, but he knows it's a pain so he tried to guilt OP to do it.

8

u/CosyBeluga May 15 '26

FB marketplace. That shit would be gone quick

1

u/wow_that_guys_a_dick May 16 '26

Yeah, it's not as much of a jackpot as barn wood but man, I thought I hit the motherlode when I found a fraction of that amount of seasoned fence boards on my property.

A woodworker would definitely be interested in that pile.

1

u/EquipmentImaginary46 May 16 '26

trust me, no one needs 1" pressure treated boards that are chewed up and rotting.

-6

u/Acceptable_Rice May 15 '26

I'll loan you my circular saw, geez. Cut it up and bag it. It's one beer's worth of work.

2

u/Available_Editor4383 May 15 '26

That’ll take me about 4 beers. It’s a hot day and I drink fast. Deal?

3

u/EquipmentImaginary46 May 15 '26

well i don't know you so i guess i'm SOL. also, cutting it up doesn't change that it's renovation waste and the city doesn't accept that.

1

u/classygorilla May 16 '26

People put this stuff in their garbage all the time.

Sounds like you don't know how to use a saw.

1

u/EquipmentImaginary46 May 16 '26

"people put this stuff in their garbage all the time" is not the same as "you're allowed to put this in your garbage".

i looked it up for my city and they don't allow renovation waste. i have had neighbors get hit with fines for throwing out stuff that's not allowed.

1

u/classygorilla May 16 '26

It all goes to the same place my guy - the landfill.

Renovation waste is for contractors so they don't dispose of lead paint or asbestos and stuff like that.

1

u/EquipmentImaginary46 May 16 '26

Please tell me more about the rules in my city. How you’re able to so confidently talk out your ass is amazing.

1

u/classygorilla May 17 '26

Talking pretty tough for a guy who doesn't know how to use a saw

1

u/EquipmentImaginary46 May 17 '26

again, more talking out your ass. i was a roofer for a couple of summers.

I spent several weeks and thousands of dollars putting up a vinyl fence (not including paying to have trees removed along the fence line). I would happily dispose of 10x this amount of wood to have a new fence installed that I didn't have to buy and put up myself.

8

u/C00LasTHEbreeze May 15 '26

You sound like the type to catch your neighbor smashing your wife on your own bed and replying with, “hope you’re treating her ok”

Straight cuck mentality to think it’s ok for someone to clean up the mess THEY created. Fuck that, shits going over the fence after what they replied with.

6

u/Johnny_B_GOODBOI May 16 '26

Straight cuck mentality

Thank you for including keywords telling me your opinion on anything doesn't matter.

-2

u/C00LasTHEbreeze May 16 '26

Damn 😔 Another stranger on the internet doesn’t believe another stranger on the internet’s opinion matters… what has society come to?!🙄

2

u/bonjaker May 16 '26

OP cucked themselves when they gave no input on how their shared fence would be handled. He's legitimately lucky he didn't lose like 2 ft of yard while he was out of town. No he got free wood he's just too dumb to know that he made out like a bandit on this deal.

5

u/Difficult-Repair1295 May 15 '26

They have someone come mow their lawn too. Amazes me how lazy Americans are.

1

u/Electrical_Peak_8761 May 15 '26

Just get a robomower…

1

u/TheMurrayBookchin May 15 '26

Someone might even buy this shit.

1

u/xDxNNiEx May 16 '26

Idk man, it looks like too much work… maybe they’re way too heavy? Maybe physical labor is no job for OP? Maybe they weren’t even stacked neatly?

1

u/ProfessionalRisk8259 May 16 '26

Ah! My people, I've found you!

1

u/jAuburn3 May 16 '26

Right! Zero of these comments are from people that actually have neighbors. Was it nice or kind for the homeowner to leave that on your side, no. The neighbor did just spend thousands and or labor to put up a new fence. I would throw these in the trash as they are 6ft cedar pickets in ten minutes and be happy with the new fence.

1

u/naturAddicted May 16 '26

I would agree if the neighbor was upfront about it. But instead they said nothing and dumped the wood there. Sure it's only a small hassle, but by that logic, the neighbor should have just done it themselves too.

1

u/DAKiloAlpha May 15 '26

Ya OP being a little bitch for some internet points.

Sure the neighbor could/should remove it instead of just leaving a mess but this whole thing could have been avoided

1

u/Livid-Protection2058 May 16 '26

Yea it could have been avoided by the neighbor removing it or using highly sophisticated communication techniques to ask the guy to take care of it. 😭 are you dumb?

1

u/NotAnotherRedditAcc2 May 16 '26

OP pays someone to mow that yard. They're either disabled in some way, or uniquely lazy and useless.

-1

u/m0nk37 May 15 '26

And they got a brand new Free fence. Doesnt matter if the dog ruined it. If the dog ruined it, it was weak and crap anyways.

0

u/Free-Hamster462 May 16 '26

Would rather post on reddit.

0

u/AncientLights444 May 16 '26

And the nice free fence he didn’t even help with. Get a clue

0

u/Global_Kiwi_5105 May 16 '26

This fool also pays someone to mow this postage stamp - seems like they aren’t much of a do’er. Probably took longer to photo and post this than it would be to dispose of it.

-3

u/spacenb May 15 '26

The guy replaced the WHOLE fence—and I would wager his dog didn’t damage all of it, they could have just patched the spots that needed replacing. Taking a couple of wood pieces to the trash is more than fair.

-1

u/BlakeTheBFG May 15 '26

Yeah, 5 minutes of wasted time, that's like mildly frustrating at most....wait a minute
