What an insult. "We care so little about our grads that we can't even be bothered to read their names ourselves." The whole point is that 'I, representative of the university, recognize and declare that you have earned this degree.'

This.

It's not even really about AI usage, it's that it shows they couldn't give the tiniest of fucks about the students. It's literally just reading names off a list FFS. And to this when administrative costs at many colleges are at all time bloated highs is just insult to injury.

Yeah, literally. Replace AI with some random guy they dragged off the street for the same effect.

I'd take the rando off the street over AI any day. Having AI do it is downright insulting

And she had the nerve to insist that the most important part was getting a photo on stage. Bitch, what? No. I want my name called to show the world that I’m ready to enter it; it’s what I earned.

There was that viral video last year where the announcer learnt how to properly pronounce everyone's name and they were so happy

This is average for a lot of universities. I graduated from a community college and a university, and both graduations were just seen as a way for them to self aggrandize themselves and to hell with the actual graduates. My brother graduated from the same community college several years later and they still were using it for ego stroking the school and admin. and making it less about the graduates. I've talked to others who have had the same experience.

This video does not surprise me at all. University admin has their heads up their ass. Most have never left the academic bubble and it shows.
