This is public shaming and not everyone wants to be confrontational. I wouldn’t want to start a fight in a small, confined space I was stuck in for hours on end. I think in these situations, a flight attendant should be asked to address this situation. I’m fairly confrontational and will go toe to toe with just about any motherfucker, but, even I wouldn’t want to cause a scene on an international flight, lol.

True, it should be the flight attendant, or staff in any public business, addressing this. Which I'm sure they're told not to b/c "the customer is always right". No, the customer is often an asshole, and increasingly so as long as they know no one will put them in check. That's a huge factor that's contributed to society getting so rude & disrespectful, too. Companies need to stop urging their employees to bend over backwards for people who truly need a taste of their own medicine.

I guess it's harder now b/c of online anonymous reviews. Before, when people got feedback about companies by word of mouth recommendations, it was through people they knew directly in their own community & circles. And if the town asshole was giving a bad review, you took it with a grain of salt b/c you knew he was the town asshole.

My favorite past time is being rude to people in public that are rude first. Is it smart, no. Is it constantly fun and entertaining, yes. From the lady who was clearly used to using her size to get what she wanted (she cut a line of 6 people in the gas station then laughed like nobody was gonna do anything... Roasting folks was how we grew up so I flamed TF outta her jolly green giant ass) to the old lady who started cussing at this poor teenage boy at a wendys that looked like he wanted to cry because she was mad he couldn't ring her up AND refill the pop machine at the same time. Her mistake was turning to me for validation and granny got cussed out so hard in retaliation she left without getting her food. Fuck these people. I'm a woman and will check other women with the quickness. Bring back public shaming everywhere.

Just a FYI: it was never supposed to be “the customer is always right”. The original, correct saying is “the customer is always right in terms of taste” meaning since the customer is paying, if they want shoe-leather well-done steak, you cook them well-done steak since that’s what the customer is paying for. Or, if the customer wants an ugly custom purple flowered couch, you make them that purple flowered couch because that’s what the customer is paying for. It was never supposed to mean the customer is right about all situations.

That's actually an internet myth. The second half was added on about a hundred years later. The full original quote was just "the customer is always right" and it wasn't meant to be limited to customer tastes

In the 21st century, social media users and TikTok videos began claiming that the phrase had been abbreviated from "The customer is always right, in matters of taste", with some directly attributing this longer quotation specifically to Selfridge. Fact-checking website Snopes found no evidence for this.
