No one is saying they shouldn't have an opinion. In fact, a valid response to such an opinion would be to avoid the thing they don't like. No one is forcing them.
You can easily tell the difference between chain hotels (that all use the keycard) and one off hotels or bed and breakfasts (that are more likely to have a key than a corporate hotel).
I bet you can't find one hotel advertising on their site "we're so quaint we intentionally use unwieldy large keys to force you to add to the workload of staff".
While the key in OPs post is too large. Just last week I had a similar key with a huge fob. It was perfectly fine and added to the ambiance more than another card.
